1930 Modernist Housing Pack 2

Kuvaus
Good evening!
These models are based on an apartament complex from Gdynia, Poland.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------Technial details are in the lower section of the description-------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Basic facts about the apartament complex
  • The complex was built in steps from year 1935 to 1939 and represents pre World War II modernism.
  • Designed by Stanisław Ziołowski, the investor was the Polish National Development Bank (Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego - BGK)
  • Real-life segments are Gdn2a, Gdn3, Gdn5a, Gdn6 in game, the rest are products of my own idea.

Interesting facts about the apartament complex
  • In real life, the whole investment might seem to be a one huge building (the longest section of the complex is 90m long), but in reality, it's composed of totally independent segments.
  • So-called BGK Housing Complex was known as the most luxurious one in the pre-ww2 Gdynia and was the first housing estate in Gdynia to have an underground car park for residents' vehicles.
  • It also had an underground shelter in case of bombardment.

Interesting facts about the interior of the buildings
  • Apartaments were sold turnkey. What's interesting, besides standard baths, basins and toilets, bathrooms were also equipped with bidets and special handrails above baths for eldery people.
  • The biggest corner (Gdn2a & Gdn2b) had the most spacious apartaments (often around 200 sq m), where residents lived often with domestic workers they hired.
  • In the corner building apartaments, rooms used to have a special button for calling a domestic worker. Every room had its number and when a resident wanted something, he/she pressed a button and a lamp with room's number would light up at worker's place.

The most representative corner, around year 1936

Gdynia was the only significant port of the Second Polish Republic.
  1. Because of uncertain situtation of the Free City of Danzig (Gdańsk), a decision to build a port in Gdynia was made by Polish authorities.
  2. Gaining a reliable access to the sea was perceived crucial and Gdynia was a perfect place for a new port and city.
  3. Before investments of the interwar period started, Gdynia was a fisherman village of around 1200 people as for year 1921.
  4. Alongside the port infrastructure, residential areas were also built and population of Gdynia increased around 117 times in just 18 years (population 140 000 in year 1939).

Surprisingly modern looking for the 1930's. I mean you could build that next to modern one and no one would think it's much older.

@Frodo, Przepraszam, ale teraz modeluję inny duży projekt, a zabudowa najnowsza nie stanowi póki co mojego obszaru zainteresowań :(
Pozdrawiam
