Introduction:
Many players on Beasts of Bermuda look down on the Oryctodromeus; it has low HP, it’s not very fast, and can easily get one-shot by any dinosaur.

The only thing that the Orycto has going for it is its unique ability to dig burrows underground. What many players don’t realize is that this burrowing mechanic, (if utilized to its full potential), makes the Orycto the champion Survival build in the game.

In this guide I will show you the stepping stones to creating your own mini-civilization.
Section One: Burrow Master
With recent patches, the talent Burrow Master has become vital to Oryctodromeous mains in order to expedite the creation of farms and relocation of rare decorations to primary burrow chambers without the need to dig carefully around them.

The main staples of a successful Ory farm is the following:
  • Potato Farm (food for babies and to prevent starvation during a storm or siege).
  • Blue Crystal Farm (Comfort boost!).
  • Cucumber Farm (For water satiation during drought).
  • Salt Farm (Helpful when alternative salt sources are unavailable or far away from the burrow).

The most critical farm is the Blue Crystal farm. Why? Because crystals are a luxury item that signifigantly increases the growth speed of a dinosaur, and you can also use it as a bargaining chip for when Velo's are present.

One time me and a friend survived an incursion of Velos simply because we were maintaining a MASSIVE crystal farm, and the Velos didn't want us to leave because then the burrow would disappear if no ory was there to refresh it.
Subsection: Alternative Farming
If you haven't invested talent points into Burrow Master, there are alternative (if not time consuming) methods to setting up farms in burrows.

One trick that not many people know is that if you dig a block of dirt, then replace the dirt and then dig it up again, you can change what spawns in that square, enabling Oryctodromeus to set up specific burrows for different resources, or decorate a burrow however they wish.

The only obstacle is that different objects have different chances of spawning each time you dig a block. Thankfully potatoes spawn fairly often, so it shouldn’t take more than a couple rounds of digging and refilling the same block of dirt before a potato pops up.

NOTE: If you are doing this method, and are getting the same object spawning over and over, wait a couple seconds before digging up the dirt block, you might be digging too fast!

Here’s an example of me changing the object that spawns. See this block of dirt? Dig it up using left-click by default.

A bone decoration!

Now that I have a bit of dirt, I can just replace the dirt by right-clicking and dig it up again by left-click. Doing this repeatedly changes what spawns in that square.

Potatoes and cucumbers are one of the more frequent items to spawn when digging up a block of dirt, which makes it easy to set up basic farms for food and water. Not only that, but Orys can create their own comfort crystal farms and salt farms as well!

Now, keep in mind that potatoes do not provide a lot of food and don’t provide any Satiation, often times it takes roughly up to 20x20 blocks dedicated to potatoes in order to fill an ory's belly (this is for 0.9 orys and below). So if you plan on making a potato farm, make it big! You’ll need it if you plan on spending extraneous amounts of time below ground, and even then you may need to take trips to the surface world to fill up on greens, so it may be a good idea to make a stockpile of them in a separate burrow chamber.

Section Two: Burrow Tips
A rule of thumb to all Oryctodromeuses, never build a burrow in plain sight. If you can, dig your burrow in tall grass or among the crags of hills and mountains, or even tucked away beneath a tree. Just be careful! Adult Apatosauruses can uproot and eat almost any tree, and if there are any nearby, they may yoink your burrow’s cover right off.

While active burrows do produce an easily detectable scent, no dinosaur is just holding down the smell button all the time (waste of ability stamina), so hiding your burrow significantly lessens the chances of predators finding it when they are on the prowl.

Warren plans: Now before you go excavating a vast network of tunnels, be aware that high tides and extinction floods can occur, so it is important that when you choose your burrowing site you make sure it is within digging distance to higher ground; preferably near a mountain. Why?

Because you can only dig so deep before hitting sea level, and tunnels that run deep underground are going to be flooded first during the high tide, making them uninhabitable until the water level lowers.

However, creating a tunnel system inside of a mountain or hill can provide significant advantages during extinction events as well as whenever a large predator is stalking about.

However, be mindful about your dirt deposits! Each time you dig, your little jar of dirt fills up, and eventually you have to empty that jar of dirt, which you can do by exiting your burrow. The downside to this is that the more dirt you deposit outside a single burrow, the bigger the amount of "evidence" you leave behind.

So, if you plan on digging A LOT, I suggest you have either a designated burrow where you always exit through whenever your jar of dirt is full, or you evenly disperse it through multiple burrow entrances if you plan on being stealthy.

Bonus Section: Auroraceratops
Auroraceratops are essentially the bootleg versions of Oryctodromeous.

You can only become an Auroraceratops via finding the golden Auroraceratops statue hidden on the Titania map, it can be found next to a camping tent with a campfire.

While they are capable of digging burrows and kicking sand, their ability to do so is significantly reduced and they do not have access to talents such as Burrow Master.

Oddly enough, their talent trees seem to be a mixture of Ory talents and Velo talents, possessing talents such as Acrobat (replacing Burrow Master) and Nest Raider (Replacing Sand Hoarder) and Slippery (replacing Sharp Teeth).

Not only are Auro's much more fragile and prone to incurring illness, they can only hold one (1) dirt in their jar, and are incapable of holding any more dirt due to the lack of Burrow Master present in their skill tree.

Overall, Auro's are not very good at anything, which is why they are AI creatures and not currently official playable dinosaurs.
To be Continued...
Since Beasts of Bermuda is an Early Access game, changes are sure to occur. So it is likely that this guide will change along with it, so long as I am an active player. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions to make, feel free to comment below!

there's something you're forgetting about! if you log off with a full jar of dirt then it simply vanishes. with no trace.

alr, just sayin that i think you gotta add a list of the best places to burrow in every map, and what to eat there, and where to find its plentiful.

Well with the recent patch, the Airlock burrowing tactic has been rendered useless :/
so I'll just delete that section to make room for the new food sources added to the spawn list of burrow items.

@callanbush11 If you actually read the segment, you'd see that I explain how that can be avoided using the crystals. The diagram even shows you how the air would still be able to flow through the burrow while still keeping the exit barred to any non-orys.

but there is a stale air debuff, so if you close a tunnel that goes to the exit, you will suffocate pretty soon.
