This is a guide in wich i will show you how to mostly counter the smart pistol, complete with a description of the gun

What is the smart pistol?
The smart pistol is a nightmare to fight against and a wet dream to use, but will also grant you the total hate of the entire community for at least 5 minutes.

Ahem, the smart pistol is a boost in Titanfall 2 that is granted after reaching level 42 or bought for 125 credits, in mid battle the boost will be given to a pilot after completing 60% of their titan.

The pistol itself has low damage and only 24 bullets, after that the weapon is gone. It will replace your secondary, so if you use this boost you will loose your spam2016, REEEEEEE-45 or your 'oh god i forgot to change' revolver, while keeping the primary intact.

The main apeal of the gun is the auto lock feature so you just have to point in the general direction of a pilot for 3 to 4 seconds* and click, the pilot will instantly die and rage making you a prime target if possible, for minions the charge is less with only like a second before being able to kill them, its preferable not to aim to grunts since the ammo is so limited.

*the time it takes to lock on can vary if the target is too far or if it isnt in the center of your raticle (yes you can aim witht he pistol... i think... i cant remember... maybe in titanfall 1... we need further testing... i need to use the damn thing ugh...)
How to counter the smart pistol?
There are many different ways to counter the smartest of pistols and the biggest piece of crap that ever existed, here are some of them.

1) Cook a nade: the fuse of a nade is 2 seconds or so, so when it starts beeping throw it at the general direction of the smart pistol and pray that you havent yeeted the nade to space

1.2) Explosive boogaloo: Use a C4, i mean Satchel, the Satchel will get targeted first by the SP so if they are the spammy type they can make the satchel explode and kill them (Credits to KooKumWeng for this idea)

2) Use invisibility: the moment you see the red message appear you need to hit your pilot ability and rain hell to the smart pistol, the cloak doesnt allow the smart pistol to auto aim, and even with the manual fire it still gives you an opportunity to punch or quickly aim your weapon at the bad guy,

3) Use stim: the farther away you are from the pistol the harder is to lock on, so if you see an exit and you see the red alert, RUN

4) Use phase shift: Ya cant lock on something that aint there buster, also run

5) Use A-wall: gamble for your life as you throw the wall at your feet hoping for it to catch the bullet, also unisntall

6) Sonar pulse?: if you scape the smart pistol you can try and use your pulse blade to detect where tf the pistol went, or you can just throw the kunai at them and pray for them to die, if it kills them then good job

7) Grapple??: "Step 1: Die" (if you are good with grapple you might be able to strife and fly away)

8) Holo pilot???: Here, take this depresso and good luck (Holo pilots arent that F'd to be honest, the hologram can attrack the SP reticle, but its hard to pull off and the SP can target multiple pilots/grunts)

?) secret technique that might work?: idk if this works but you can try and counter smart pistol with an arc nade, since they make titans blind it may have some effect on the smart pistol, it also reduces the sensibility of the enemy so it might save your life 1 or 2 times

??) Pull up a Xander: Just Omae wa mou shindeiru their asses by jumping over their heads at max speed, and execute behind them, if you pull this then you are a god, but good luck

???) The true counter: just ♥♥♥♥♥♥ die my guy, the sp cant kill what its already dead ya know? (credits to Neske, very good idea i aprob)
Opinons over the smart pistol
it exist... its a weapon and goes pew pew pew when you shoot it... I dont really like the smart pistol since a pilot is suposed to be safe inside buildings or going as fast as ♥♥♥♥ in the battle field, but a smart pistol can quickly break that harmony, specially if a invisibility pilot is using it, i would recomend using spammable granadier weapons so the damage is high and aim is not really necessary...

how to counter the SP:
cloak
dont have cloak? aim good. the reason why the SP is "strong" is because it lets you focus on movement, otherwise its mostly only good agaisnt people that arent aiming at you already, which means its strong when ambushing... but at that point any gun would have done the same job.
but the gun's time to kill itself is about at the same speed as someone with.. very average aim with an smg or autorifle.
so with decent aim and with the chance that you've spotted eachother at the same time, you'll easily come out on top unless the SP user is spam clicking and gets lucky with an unguided shot

Blending in with a flock of grunts may buy you some time. Also, getting close to a friendly titan will help your buddy avenge your life even if he/she doesn't save it.

I remember in Titanfall 1, if someone use the Ghost Squad burn card they became basically invincible as you couldn't see them unless you're looking for them, and you didn't get the lock-on warning

yes all you said itrs true and i agree, specially in the part of holo main (the community is sorry for your suffering, mostly) my only problem is that the majority, or at least what i noted in almost every time i played titanfall is that people spam the SP so the lock ons dont matter as much since its more like a damage scale.

Many people found out that you dont really need to do a full lock for the bullets to do contact, since its a hit scan weapon what only matters is that the enemy is infront of the gun and not behind a *w a l l* so they tend to just spam away and thats the problem i see and have with many other players in the community.

At least i guess that spamming the pistol does make it loose more bullets and therefore the less time the SP gets used in the field.

lock-on has the same speed to gain one lock. Grunts, Ticks (and probably Spectres) need one lock, Stalkers need 2, and Pilots need 3. Smart pistol also locks on all throwables except the Firestar and Gravity Star.

By far, Cloak and A-Wall is best at preventing Smart Pistol locks. Cloak for obvious reasons, and A-Wall because w a l l . Stim and Grapple's only hope at countering SP is running away, or melee'ing the pilot before they gain a lock. Holos do not get targeted by SP's lock-on, sorry Holo mains.

SP: 3-4s ttk
