Introduction
Burnout Paradise is a racing game developed by Criterion Games and published by Electronic Arts and was officially released on January 22th, 2008 in North America and just three days later on January 25th in Europe for the Sony PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Xbox 360. Burnout Paradise is the seventh game in the Burnout racing series. The previous Burnout games have key features that Criterion put into Burnout Paradise which they thought would be great to pack it all in and have it be featured in an open-world environment.

Burnout Paradise was later ported to the PC (released on February 5th, 2009 in North America along with the European version the very next day, February 6th) as well as a re-release for the Sony PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Xbox 360 (released on February 5th, 2009 exclusively for Europe) all three labeled as 'Burnout Paradise: The Ultimate Box' which includes the first patches (Timed Challenges, Online-Exclusive cars [Cagney Update], Time of Day Changes, and the addition of Bikes [Bike Pack]) and the first priced DLC, Party Pack.

Some of you may not be into racing games but Burnout Paradise is a racing game like none other. There is a LOT going on in Burnout Paradise especially with all the DLC that has been released for it. Three years old, yes, but Burnout Paradise is still kicking especially the three year old servers.

I have been playing Burnout Paradise since its release in January 2008 and I have chosen a game with the most attitude and spunk that never gets old. I have completed Burnout Paradise five times over yet I never get tired of playing it.

A special acknowledgment goes to 91sportsfan for posting a Burnout Paradise Guide that includes everything released for Burnout Paradise through the DLC Packs. Time was taken out of his schedule to tediously play through MULTIPLE games of Party Pack in order to find ALL possible games. He also allowed me to use his Road Rules and Descriptions for the both the Party Pack and Cops and Robbers Packs. Thank you 91sportsfan.

Since this is the Steam version of the guide, I will be omitting some things from this guide but to view the full guide in all of its glory, please visit this link[gamefaqs.gamespot.com]. Thank you.

How-To's
Power Park
Power Parking is not that important but it is for challenges. In order for a proper Power Park, find a bunch of parked cars. Some of them are going to be a couple 'Paradise' car lengths. These are the parked cars to focus on. In the setup, go at a medium-slow speed and as you approach the two cars, E-Brake into the spot while both keeping a good distance from both vehicles and keeping your car straight. The closer between curb/sidewalk and sidelines and the straighter you are, the higher your score will be.

Drift
The most important key feature to master in Burnout Paradise is drifting. To master the drift, you have to make a lot of turns on a lot of different routes. When you are speeding towards a turn you need to make, just lightly tap the brake button to make a wide drift around a turn or press the brake to make a tight drift. Drifting is also essential to gaining boost especially in Speed cars going in Oncoming Traffic.

Barrel Roll
To achieve a perfect Barrel Roll, look for a split ramp with enough room to pull and land the roll. In order to make the Barrel Roll, you have to set your car up half way between the high split and low split. Make sure you boost the whole way to land the roll. To pull off more Barrel Rolls, hold the Left Stick or Left/Right Arrows to the way you are Barrel Rolling to roll faster or pull away to slow down the roll. Such areas to pull off multiple Barrel Rolls are the Quarry and the Airfield.

E-Brake
In order to quickly turn around, press/hold the Space/Left Ctrl button to activate the Handbrake and the longer the button is held, turn will be harder. E-Braking will help in getting a higher flat spin when going off a ramp or cliff and flat spins will be discussed below.

Flat Spin
Flat Spins are a necessity to almost everything in Burnout Paradise. From challenges to Stunt Runs, flat spins are easy to achieve and master. At the end of a ramp or cliff, start E-Braking and hold the Left Stick or Left/Right Arrows along with the way you are flat spinning to maximize the end result. The best
places to pull a flat spin off are the ramps in the Airfield and Quarry or the jump that bypasses the South Mountain Horseshoe by the Rockridge Dam and Quarry also known as Rockridge Cliff.

Licenses
  • Learner: Start With
  • D: 2
  • C: 7 (Total: 9)
  • B: 15 (Total: 24)
  • A: 26 (Total: 50)
  • Burnout: 40 (Total: 90)
  • Burnout Elite: 120 [minus Burning Routes Completed] (Total: 183-210)

For the base game, there are 7 types of Licenses. The first License is the Learners Permit in which you need 2 wins to get a D Class License. Between the D Class License and the Burnout License are the "Letter Licenses" going from D to A.

Getting to the C Class License, you need the 2 wins from the Learners Permit to get to the D Class License, then 7 wins to upgrade the D Class License to the C Class License. The B Class License requires 15 wins on top of that then the A Class License needs another 26.

The Burnout License adds 40 more events once the A Class License has been earned then after the Burnout License is acquired, there is a special License to trek ALL of Burnout Paradise. That License is the Elite License which requires ALL events to be won (the end number depends on the number of Burning Routes you have previously completed). The final number ranges between 183 and 210. The 183 is all of the available 27 Burning Routes have been completed and 210 is based off that you did not get a single Burning Route.

The Bike License is a bit different. There is no in betweens with the Bike License yet the Licenses are the same as the beginning and end Licenses. You start out with the Learner License and once you complete all the bike events, you get the Elite Rider License.

The License for Big Surf Island is like the Bike License yet the Big Surf Island License is just a percentage License. That means that either you complete the Online Island Challenges, Road Rules, Billboards, Smashes, Jumps, and Events, the License will go up in percentage no matter what you do.

Update #3: Party Pack - About & Points
About the Party Pack
The Party Pack is the third game-changing DLC that has been released for Burnout Paradise by Criterion Games. The Party Pack only gives a Party Mode that is a "Pass the Pad" Expansion as given by Criterion Games. Nothing Spectacularly new in the main game of Burnout Paradise.

There are 3 different types of challenges that you can be given: Speed, Stunt, and Skill. Speed contests consist of doing certain tasks the fastest. Stunt challenges have you do stunts. Skill challenges will have you perform certain skills within a set time limit. For Skill and Speed challenges, you will receive points based on how well you do. For Stunt challenges, your points will be based on whether you can complete the stunt or not. Since points are awarded on whether you pass or fail, the points you receive for passing the challenge will be the same amount awarded for a first place finish for that number of players (ex. Pass a Stunt Challenge with 4 players will get you 750 points). Up to 8 players can participate in Party and you can up to 8 rounds. For each round, you can choose whether you want to do a Speed, Stunt, and Skill challenge of if you want a random challenge type selected for you. If you choose to use the generic “Player #” names, the car you use (which is preset to the challenge) will match the color of your icon. For example, Player 1 is red, so that person would have a red car. To change a player’s name, hit down on the D-pad and select that player. A keyboard will pop-up and you can enter the name you wish to use. The order for the first round is random but for every round after, the order will follow the standings with the leader going first. For rounds 1-3, the points will be the original amount. For rounds 4-6, the points will be doubled. In the final two rounds (7 & 8), the points will be triple the original value.

Points Breakdown
8 players - 1,750/1,500/1,250/1,000/750/500/250/0
7 players - 1,500/1,250/1,000/750/500/250/0
6 players - 1,250/1,000/750/500/250/0
5 players - 1,000/750/500/250/0
4 players - 750/500/250/0

Update #7: Cops and Robbers - About & Gold Locations
About
The Cops and Robbers Pack is the seventh game-changing DLC that has been released for Burnout Paradise by Criterion Games. The Cops and Robbers Pack is unavailable for PC because Criterion refused to port the Cops and Robbers Pack from the Console to the PC. The Cops and Robbers Pack mainly gives a whole new set of cars which the new set is basically all of the vehicles (besides the Hunter Citizen and Krieger PCPD Special which are both supposed to be unlocked either through playing the whole game or via Time Savers Pack) studded with Police Paint and Lights. The other thing that the Cops and Robbers pack gives is a special online game called (what else?) "Cops and Robbers."

(Thanks to 91sportsfan)
With this new online game, the host can choose to lock the cars so everyone drives the same car, or the host can elect to have everyone use the car they are driving. However, if you are driving a paid-for DLC car, like the Carson Nighthawk or Jansen P12 88 Special, you will be asked to switch cars, even if you are the host. The only cars allowed are Paradise Cars and Cop Cars. If the cars are locked, Robbers will have a Red paint job of the Paradise Car and the Cops will have the Cop Car. The host has the power to choose between 1, 3, or 5 rounds and whether there is traffic or not. Neither team will have Boost throughout the game. While driving with the Gold, your car will be slowed down, like being the Marked Man. If one of your teammates is carrying the Gold, their name will change to Protect in yellow and their mini-map icon will also change to yellow. If one of your opponents is carrying the Gold, their name will change to Target in yellow, as will their mini-map icon. Each team has their own base to get the Gold to. The Cops need to get the Gold to the Country Club while the Robbers need to get the Gold to the Naval Yard. The first team to win 1, 2, or 3 rounds, depending on the amount of rounds, wins the game.

Possible Gold Locations (Thanks to 91sportsfan)
  • Lambert Parkway (Just north of 2nd)
  • Wildcats Baseball Stadium
  • Waterfront Plaza
  • Downtown Park (At the junction of Root and 3rd)
  • Coastguard HQ

Big Surf Island gives 9 more vehicles to the astonishingly huge arsenal of vehicles that is already given in Burnout Paradise where 8 of which are able to be unlocked offline whereas the 9th and coveted car of Big Surf Island should unlock though the online portion of Burnout Paradise.

Tips & Tricks: Getting 100%
Getting to 100% may seem a bit far and very stressful. Trust me. It should not
take that long. My second go around on Burnout Paradise took only 17 hours for
100% plus an extra 2 hours just to get two sets of Freeburn Challenges. There
are others who also finish the game in 15 hours so completion ranges should
start at 15 hours.

During my 17-hour single-player trek, I was stressing the following sequences
and ticking down the clock.

FIRST - Start taking out the billboards, jumps, and smashes in the tri-county
area of Harbor Bay, Palm Bay Heights, and Downtown Paradise.

SECOND - Move to Silver Lake and White Mountain and take down the billboards,
jumps, and smashes in that area BUT as first thing IS first, try to stay IN the
tri-county area BEFORE moving on or else you may end up searching every nook and
cranny for the last couple of billboards, jumps, and smashes in the city wasting
more time.

THIRD - Start with the Showtime Road Rules in the City with either an aggression
boost car or a car that has a long stunt boost (Unless you know what you are
doing, I recommend you stay away from Speed cars because of their short boosts)
and end in the County BUT thing is, you have to get a Rule on EVERY Road in the
City before moving on to the Country because you can get an idea of what to look
for in the country AND the Country Showtime Rules are less than that of the City
Showtime Rules.

FOURTH - Taking down the Time Road Rules should be easy-peasy right now because
you should have two of the fastest cars in the game (You should have them before
the Showtimes), the Carson Carbon GT Concept and the Montgomery Carbon Hawker.
Start at Big Surf Beach (Where you initially start off at and where East
Crawford Drive is). Take out the streets going across from left to right
(Patterson, Hudson, Hawley, etc.) then make your way down in a scooping/sweeping
motion from top to bottom in a switch motion (left to right, then right to left,
the left to right again, etc.).
!*~TIME ROAD RULE NOTE~*! - When you get to South Rouse Road, you can just take
the road all the way up, around, down, around again, and across to the end of
Hubbard Avenue going over multiple roads at once without stopping such as North
Rouse Road, North and South Mountain Drives, and East and West Lake Drives.

FIFTH - Now it is time to take down the events and start getting some cars. By
now, you should only still be at the D class License. I suggest that you start
out finding suitable events that you are comfortable with and enjoy as well as
your most hated and dreaded events. Once you found your events, stick with your
most comfortable event until you get your Burnout License then immediately
switch to your most hated events. This is so that you can finish all the events
sooner and you can get the coveted WTR car (which is basically an F1 Racer).
Plus, you can easily and comfortably finish the game with less stress then if
you did the comfortable events first then the hated events last.

Sequences 3 and 4 may be interchanged but they MUST be done before the fifth
sequence of events to not stress you out later. Take your time with these
sequences. Take breaks during and in between to keep your mind fresh and on the
goal. I am giving you the benefit of the doubt of finishing Burnout Paradise
between 15 to 150 hours. The 150 hours is 1.5 times the amount of time it took
me to first 100% Burnout Paradise (100 hours on my first 100%)

Now for the Bikes, it is quite hard to take people down and the developers at
Criterion all agree that it is IMPOSSIBLE for a bike to take down a car like the
Carson Inferno Van (or virtually any other car as well) even with a length of
chain so that is why Criterion refused to combine Bikes and Cars. I don't
remember how long my longest Bike trek was but I am giving a time range between
5 and 35 hours to complete the Bikes 100%. I am not sure if it acquired at 100%
or 101% but at the end of the Bike License, you do get a chrome finish for three
out of the four bikes.

There is virtually nothing to the Bike content then just Day Road Rules, Night
Road Rules, Burning Rides, and Midnight Rides. The best advice I have to give to
get 100% for the Bike License is use the Nakamura Firehawk V4 (or the Nakamura
Firehawk GP Competition if you bought the Time Savers Pack DLC) and to have a
better view of the road ahead with light, I suggest changing the 'Time of Day'
to 'Consistent' and to 'Sunset' so that you can see where the traffic is coming
plus having the Midnight Rides become available to complete for the Nakamura
Firehawk GP Competition. There are 19 Burning Rides and 19 Midnight Rides as
well as 128 Time Road Rules (64 for Day and 64 for Night) so you can do them in
any order you like.
Tips & Tricks: Getting 101%
Now since you have 100%, try and get two people from online who have Burnout
Paradise to help you with the 2 and 3 player Challenges. Why 2 and 3 player
Challenges? Because it provides good collaboration between getting it done with
the benefit of not overloading your server ping (how well you are in tune to the
other players and the higher a ping, the more lag that will be experienced
between you and the other player/s but a lower ping means that there is very
little lag).

Each set of FREEBURN Challenges has 50 Challenges. I have Freeburn capitalized
because Criterion released a free update that now gives 10 TIMED Challenges to
each player lobby so to be politically correct, Freeburn Challenges are the
Challenges that you want to go after. Once 2 sets of Freeburn Challenges are
complete, you get an extra 1%, Platinum Paint, and the Krieger Carbon Überschall
8 which has a stunt boost. What cars to choose from for the Challenges? I would
have to go with the Hunter Vegas Carnivale or the Montgomery Hawker Solo.

If you do not have 100% but do have the Hunter Vegas Carnivale unlocked (Hunter
Vegas MUST be unlocked then win the Burning Route before owning the Carnivale
Edition {same with the Montgomery Hawker and Solo Editions}), then you should
use the Carnivale BIG time. Why use the Hunter Vegas Carnivale? The reason being
that The Hunter Vegas and Carnivale Editions are so over-powered as flying stunt
cars that it probably surpasses the flying ability of the Carson Dust Storm and
SuperTurbo Editions (plus the Hunter Vegas/Carnivale cars are useful in the PC
version because there is no Big Surf Island for the PC).

I am giving you a range between 2 and 30 hours to complete 2 sets of 50 Freeburn
Challenges and again the time range is in between my lowest time to complete the
Challenges and 1.5 times the amount of my first 2 Freeburn Challenge set
completion (20 hours on my first 2 Freeburn Challenge set completion). So the
only advice I am giving you (because it is basically the ONLY advice TO give) is
to try and get 2 people to help you who either need help or are already complete
and use either the Hunter Vegas Carnivale or the Carson Hawker Solo.

Upon getting to 102%, I am not going to get into much detail with completing the
other Freeburn Challenges or even the Timed Challenges. Just do the same with
getting to 101% but with more people (up to 7 other people). If you own the
console version of Burnout Paradise along with the Big Surf Island DLC, then I
highly suggest you get ALL the challenges done to get the coveted P12 Diamond
(500 challenges in all) while if you own the PC version, just stick with
completing 2 sets of Freeburn Challenges for both car and bike.

I put together the Bikes and Car sections for 101% because there are only 5
Freeburn Challenges and 5 Timed Challenges for each Player Bike Lobby. Yes, that
is only 10 challenges but still to get 101% on the Bike License, only 2 people
are required for this again as well as the 2 and 3 player Freeburn Challenges
are required AGAIN. Please Note that completing ALL the Bike Freeburn Challenges
or Freeburn and Timed Challenges will NOT give you an extra 2% for your Bike
License. The bike that I recommend using for Freeburn is the Nakamura FV1100
because it is a more stable bike than that of the T1 Edition (Nakamura FV1100-T1
which is earned by winning 19 Routes).

So I did some additional playing and turns out that the fastest time to get all
500 challenges done is 50 hours across 18 days. There might be faster times but
I am taking into consideration a 40-hour work/school week for the completion to
happen as well as a dedicated crew of players.

I have culminated/cumulated what should be close to speed run times for the game
and the somewhat (kind of) fastest time should be 74 hours.

Tips & Tricks: Stunt Run Mega-Scores
You might have seen some people get high as anything scores in stunt run. You
might either wonder how they do it or you might be jealous about you not being
good like them. Well fear no more because this part is for you. To get a high
score, you just got to know where and how to score big. The best place to score
in the millions is the Quarry and South Bay Expressway. Three to four Barrel
Rolls are ideal to land on the Quarry Super Jump to get a good 8-10 multiplier
(3 or 4 Barrel Rolls x2 = x6 or x8 multiplier plus x1 for the Super Jump and x1
for Air Time PLUS x1 multiplier that already occurs when Stunt Runs starts
making your overall multiplier x11).

Coming out of the Quarry, there is a super jump that by-passes the South
Mountain Drive horseshoe. Try and land a Barrel Roll for a multiplier of 4. At
the South Mountain Drive and South Bay Expressway intersection, Flat Spin the
Super Jump to get at least a x3 multiplier (there are two of them so a x7
multiplier is looking easier done then said). Two billboards for a multiplier of
2 and Air time on both sides of the billboard jumps gets 2 more multipliers.
Staying on the right side of South Bay Expressway and there should be an
entrance to a billboard and a super jump then a ramp going up to another
billboard. That right there is at least a multiplier of 3 or 4. If you pan out
the jumps between the billboard, jump, fall from the top, then over the wall
hitting the billboard, you should get a multiplier of 7.

So with all of that, you have yourself a multiplier of 32 if you time everything
right. If you land some more Flat Spins, then that number should be higher. Now
that you know how to get a multiplier of 32, any score turns into a million
point score and you won't be at the back of the pack any longer. Go up to the
Airfield WITHOUT crashing (or your multiplier will be lost) and try to get
another x8 to get the award of 'Stunt Superstar' where you have to get a x40
multiplier in Stunt Run.

The advice I give to get a high score in Stunt Run, go to an area you know very
well and can chain up scores easily and quickly. The Quarry/South Bar Expressway
area is a great Stunt Run Area. The Air Field is superb for the toy cars (I
suggest the Montgomery Hawker or Hunter Vegas for the PC users since the toy
cars (as well as the other DLC cars) have been taken down and they are not for
sale anymore).
Winning Burning Routes, Races, and Marked Men
To win Burning Routes, Races, and Marked Men, you have to go where you won't
normally go when cruising around Burnout Paradise. Try different ways to the
finish. Once you start the Burning Route, Race, or Marked Man, pause the game
and look at the position of how you start out. Also see where the finish is.
Find the best route that fits you AND beating either the time restraint or other
drivers.

Burning Routes are just a solo race with a time restraint but the reward is a
better car. Races are almost exactly what you think. They are against other
racers but you don't have to go in circles and race for the gold trophy. Marked
Men are races without places. They are based on how far you can get without
getting trashed by the black/dark green Hunter Civilians.

If a Burning Route, Race, or Marked Man suggests you go from the City to the
Wind Farm, a BIG advantage is going up to East Crawford Drive, following it over
towards West Crawford Drive, then taking the Railway Tunnel on the right of the
two tunnels will have two big advantages. The advantages are that A) you avoid
the risk of being totaled either by traffic or another racer making you lose a
couple places or more time, and B) you avoid the risk of missing turns also
making you lose a couple places or more time.

Finding alternate routes through Burning Routes, Races, and Marked Men are
essential for winning online games and races. Doing different variations of
Burning Routes and Races as well as using the ride car are CRUCIAL to winning
custom races. The Marked Man and Road Rage events are ESSENTIAL to winning the
online Marked Man games.

I suggest that you be very cautious of custom online races. Several factors all
determine the custom race:
1) Is Traffic On or Off?
2) What is the Boost Limit? (Between 1 and 10 where 1 you only pick early cars
and 10 being any car can be chosen)
3) How many Rounds is the Race?
4) How long is the Race?
5) Does the Host have a lock on the cars?

These factors are mainly coordinated by the host and if these factors look
terrible, there are two options you can choose. Either suck it up and race or
don't waste your time with stupid custom races. Personally, I do not see a
custom race worth racing if I am forced upon by the host to race in the Hunter
Cavalry WITH Traffic, all over Paradise City (going from the Observatory to
the Baseball Stadium to the Wind Farm over to the Country Club and you should
"Catch My Drift"), with 3 more rounds like that to go. Yet, I would make a race
like that just to make people mad.
Tips & Tricks: Road Rages
Road Rages are basically taking other drivers down with no set finish line BUT
with a finish score instead. The score is based on how many takedowns you get
and with a patch that was released, either the time limit stops at the takedown
score and the score reaches 40 (PC version) or the takedown limit is reduced to
30 and the time limit stops at 30 (console version).

Road Rages are good to prepare for the online Marked Man events or just taking
people down because you have to learn when to quickly handbrake, when to push,
when to pull, how to pull off maneuvers and more to try and prevent yourself
from being taken down. Road Rages will also allow you to see the various types
of takedowns.

By observing the amount of takedowns there are in Burnout Paradise, there are
quite a number of various takedown methods. Some methods are difficult to
reproduce yet other can be reproduced as the generic takedown and those methods
of takedowns are as follows:
1.) Takedown (The regular, old, and generic takedown against a wall or a damaged
racer)
2.) Car Takedown (When you push another car/racer into a car)
3.) Van Takedown (Same as above but into a van instead of a car)
4.) Bus Takedown (Same as above but into a bus instead of a car or van)
5.) Traffic Takedown (This takedown is possible but quite difficult to pull off
at high speeds but it is when you push a car, van, or bus at another racer
making them crash into the vehicle)
6.) Vertical Takedown (Another quite difficult takedown. Just time the drop on
someone perfectly to achieve this takedown.)
7.) Grinding Takedown (When you stay on someone’s side for a good period of time
and keeping them pinned against the wall makes this takedown possible)
8.) T-Bone Takedown (When you hit a racer perpendicular to you)

The bugs presented in Single-Player Road Rages are phenomenal. You can take
someone down one second and when the camera pans back to you, you are turned
upside-down and you lose a life. Depending on if you are next to another racer
or not, it can be determined either as a wreck or as a takedown.
