This guide explains differences between the Steam version and the original version of the game. It also covers info on DLC/additional content; where to get it, as well as the prices of everything this game really has to offer.

NOTE: This guide was last updated in April 2023. Keeping the guide up to date and in sync with new content releases has since then been discontinued.

Intro & Info

This is a guide/overview of what this game really has to offer.
I will go into prices, what you can get and where you can get it.
(Links to the 2 webshops are shown on the first screenshots in the "Add-ons/DLC" and "Extra Content" sections.)

Mods, which I 100% recommend if you want a significantly better game experience, is an entirely different subject, and that's all I'll say about that. There are already very good guides that I recommend you check out.

Buying the base game

The game can be purchased mainly from 3 sites: S-court, Steam or Nutaku. There are differences, though!

If you want the game on Steam, you will notice that it's the cheaper option, and that's for a reason. You don't really get the "full" base game. You get the game with absolutely no adult content.

To put it simply, the steam version (It's a Night's Magic) is the all-age version of the game, so you have to purchase patches to unlock R-rated content.

As of 1st of December 2022, there's actually been added a whole bunch of DLC content to Steam.

Add-ons/DLC Content 1

There is some additional add-on/DLC content available on the Steam platform.
A lot more things have recently been added.
I assume it comes with a good amount of hassle, especially if you have already purchased some stuff from s-court that suddenly now is available on Steam and maybe even from Nutaku. Word of advice; don't mix.

Just assume that the versions of the DLCs that have been added to Steam are different and likely lacking in content compared to the originals - the price difference also implies the same.

I recommend acquiring DLC content through the developer's own shop: S-courtDL R18[dl-en.s-court.me]

Alternatively, if you purchased the base game on Nutaku, you can also buy most of the DLCs there. As of 03. Nov 2021, the only DLC they don't have is the Visual Pack.

There is a lot of additional content for this game, and it's not exactly free.
You don't have to buy everything.
Buying all of it would cost a lot of money, so you should only buy things that "interest" or suits your needs.

Does NOT include GP-01 content, this is its own thing.
GP01Fb requires the R18+ patch to work properly.
As with Personality packs, GP01Fb only works with the 3 original personalities (Muku, Majime, and Rindere).
GP01Fb is a content patch that adds the "Scouting system", 4 new yotogi classes, 2 new yotogi events, 1 new yotogi background (sketchy bar), 1 new dance event, 4 new eyelash types, 4 new eyelid types, 4 new eye shapes, 5 new outfits/sets, 2 new hairstyles and 8 piercings/accessories.


GP01Fb is one of the few DLCs that are available on Steam.

The naming is even worse than usual. It does not come with the base game COM3D2.

Custom Order Maid 3D2&2.5+ X1 Dark
They are reaching new levels of idiotic confusion with the titles. This seemingly only adds NTR routes to the previously released X1 content.

• COM3D2.5 is an "upgraded version of the Custom Order Maid 3D2 software" that uses High Poly Body characters. Despite basically being a new game install, the base game is still required.
  
• COM3D2.5 comes packaged with the Kiss Character Edit System (KCES), which allows you to create and edit high polygon characters with more customization functions. Be aware that the installation process for COM3D2.5 and KCES are actually seperate despite being advertized as a "package".
  
• X0 is the first DLC that is made specifically for COM3D2.5, and it comes bundled with COM3D2.5 and KCES. It features new content/modes that can be played with characters using KCES' High Poly Body. The new modes are called "Guest Mode +" and "New Yotogi +".
  
• X1 is the second DLC that is made specifically for COM3D2.5. It features new modes such as "Honeymoon Mode" and "Fishing Minigame". It also adds the possibility to perform Yotogi in backgrounds you have created in My Room Customization Mode. It adds 7 new costumes, 2 new hair-styles for the male character and 12 new backgrounds.
  
  
  
• Kiss Character Edit System (KCES) does not work with mods.
  
• KCES does not work with content or clothes made for COM3D2, only COM3D2.5 - the familiar clothing and whatnot you might see from the get-go inside the KCES editor, is stuff made specifically for KCES. To get more clothing options inside KCES, well that's another way KISS figured they could make you pay for the same content over and over again by adding things you've already paid for to a completely separate shop specifically for KCES[com3d2-shop-en.s-court.me].
  
• Installation can be a absolute pain if your game has any kind of mods what so ever. Clean vanilla install is basically a requirement.
  
• As with anything else, COM3D2.5+X0 and X1 is only compatible with the 3 standard personalities (Muku, Majime and Rindere).

WARNING

At this point it is unclear wether X0 and X1 works with the Steam version/"It's a Night Magic". All of these DLCs definitely states that they require "Custom Order Maid 3D2"/COM3D2, but none of them mentions It's a Night Magic. Kiss has drained my walet for the same copy-pasted content enough, so I'm not even touching any of these with a 10ft pole.

Many would argue that this whole mess is mostly just a reskin of already existing features with little to no actual improvement, and comes with minimal new content. Combinining that with the fact you can't use mods makes COM3D2.5 a no-go for a lot of players, and completely justifies the community backlash these releases are producing. You have been warned.

Hold your wallets! If by this point you thought that everything listed above was everything you would need to purchase in order to get the full game experience, I'm sorry. It's not. By a longshot.

The adult content in this game is called "Yotogi", and there are several Yotogi classes/categories in which you can purchase additional content for.

Scenarios where you don't necessarily control the situation, or rather "spectate", are called Yotogi Events. There are a lot of additional events/scenarios that can be purchased.

There is also an abundance of purchasable clothing/costumes/dance events that of course will also drain your wallet.

Clothing / Costumes / Hair Styles / Other

As for clothing/costumes/customization, there are around 500-600 or so purchasable items, and new stuff is being released almost weekly.
The price point varies from $1.95 for a new hair style, to around $5 for a costume set, all the way up to over $30 for seasonal packs with multiple sets and costumes.

So that's about it for now. This just shows how little you get from the Steam version alone, and how much this game is based on microtransactions.

Final Notes

• Keep your game up to date; unless there are certain mods you know will break if you do so. You can find the latest patch here[com3d2.world]. If you insist on not keeping your game up to date, then don't install any kind of new content what so ever, unless you know what you are doing in terms of age of said content. Your game will likely break.
  
  
• I recommend using CMI / COM Modular Installer[krypto5863.github.io] to set up/finalize your game. Updating the game and using CMI once in a while is a good way to "refresh" your install. You can also do this to "reset" your install if you ever encounter gamebreaking issues and you don't know what causes it.
  
  
• Game related issues? You might be able to get help at the Custom Maid discord server[discord.gg].

  Other than that, I am sorry, I can't help you.
  There is so much individual information I would need to get a better grasp on - information regarding your install, dlc purchases (and where from), mods/plugins, etc. I simply don't have the time. With that being said, I'm sorry but I can't answer questions/comments.

There’s no “best” — it’s all personal preference.

If you’re fine not using Steam and don’t mind handing your bank details and personal info to S-court — knowing it’ll sit on their servers (no clue if they sell data like HP or how secure they are — do hackers even bother with companies like that?) — then yeah, there’s no real reason not to buy direct. It’s the same files and DLCs either way, and you don’t need Steam at all to run the game.

The only thing you might miss are limited-time DLCs they release around New Year’s and similar events. But they’re nothing special — just recycled content mashed together to trigger FOMO and mass-buying before they vanish in 2 weeks. Standard (and sadly legal) manipulation tactic sold as a “limited-time offer.”

Not even sure if those were Steam-only — maybe S-court had them too. Either way, most people agree they’re not worth it.

There is a DLC for adult on STEAM. Meaning you don't need to purchase it separately from another website

To make it work however: you need to download thr up to date patch (free, the one you need to use regardless where you get this DLC)

And, because i keep starting the game in VR... Game did not work. However, once i started the game via PC, no VR, i was asked if i want to apply all the new stuff.

@Bocchi The Rock, I am there with you, I just bought the base game, read this and immediately requested a refund for it as this was not the game I was expecting to get when I bought it

@BlueMana Some mods are actually variations of DLC content or in some cases other mods. Run the game in windowed mode so you can see the console window that CMI opens while the game is running. if you see and error that says says somthing along the lines of "Reference not set instance of an object", that means you are missing some data. Check the read me file and it will usually explain what extra data you need. You'll have to open the read me files in word since note pad can't make sense of Japanese characters and will often spit out gibberish. Gogle translate will help a lot here too.

Also not that some mods will require NPR Shader so make sure you install it when you run the CMI installer.
