Figured I'd let you know incase they didn't ask you.
Great guide by the way - I fudged my first Anabasis run and this is going to give me a fighting chance the second time!
In my aforementioned most successful run I managed to preserve every civilian ship I encountered using only a Mercury and a Jupiter Mk.II on normal- the end result was a score of over 34 million points, something which I was completely shocked by to be honest.
While the Galactica challenge is possible but always hard, my most successful run was completed using a 2 Battlestar Galactica/Pegasus setup.
The Cylon fleets which you encounter do scale slightly to the amount of warships present in your fleet, and if you have less ships that generally means less Cylons will jump in and it will take less time overall for your FTL drives to spool. (Though by the later jumps less Cylons really just means an overwhelming amount of Toasters minus a couple ships)
They've got the largest DRADIS range of any colonial ship at 5000 - drop one in the center of your civ-wall, crank it to defensive posture, and it should still be able to get eyes on hostiles before they enter your gun range. Plus, they're a cheap PCM carrier (and something else for the cylons to shoot at)
