Le carrozze tipo 1946 sono figlie di un progetto nato nel 1940, attraverso la costruzione di 10 prototipi. Dopo la seconda guerra mondiale, grazie ai fondi del piano Marshall, vennero ordinati diversi lotti di queste vetture. Inizialmente di prima, seconda e terza classe; successivamente, con l'abolizione della terza classe, tutte le vetture di questo tipo diventarono seconde classi. La carrozza montava carrelli tipo 27 che permettevano il raggiungimento della velocità di 140km/h. La tara delle vetture era di circa 35t.
La tipo 1946 nacque con la livrea castano isabella; ricevette poi la castano nel 1961 e la grigio ardesia nel 1965. Nel 1957 alcune unità ricevettero la livrea "Treno Azzurro".
Nel 1955 seguì un nuovo ordine di vetture dello stesso tipo: i nuovi rotabili risultavano più lunghi di un metro ed il numero di compartimenti era variato. Questo lotto di carrozze venne ordinato in sola prima e mista prima/seconda classe.
Successivamente, nel 1957 iniziarono le consegne delle 'tipo 1957': la lunghezza rimane invariata così come l'arrangiamento dei compartimenti. I finestrini vengono sostituiti con dei Klein. Consegnate solo vetture di seconda e mista prima/seconda classe.
Le carrozze tipo 1959, figlie delle tipo 1957, sono l'evoluzione finale del progetto.
Il tetto venne innalzato di 9cm, areatori vennero installati in corrispondenza di ogni scompartimento, carrelli del tipo 24 presero il posto degli originali 27, permettendo l'innalzamento della velocità massima a 160km/h.
La 1959 nacque con la livrea Castano e "treno azzurro", Grigio ardesia nel 1965 e Rosso fegato beige negli anni 80.

The 1946 type carriages are the offspring of a project born in 1940, through the construction of 10 prototypes. After the Second World War, thanks to funds from the Marshall Plan, several batches of these cars were ordered. Initial version had first, second and third class; later, with the abolition of the third class, all cars of this type became second classes. The carriage was fitted with type 27 bogies which allowed the speed of 140km / h to be reached. The tare weight of the cars was about 35t.
The 1946 type was born with the Castano isabella livery; it then received the castano in 1961 and the Grigio ardesia in 1965. In 1957 some units received the "Treno azzurro" livery.
In 1955 a new order of coaches was delivered: the new rolling stock were one meter longer and the number of compartments was changed. This batch of wagons was ordered in first and mixed first / second class only.
Subsequently, in 1957 the deliveries of the 'type 1957' began: the length remains unchanged as well as the arrangement of the compartments. The windows are replaced with Klein. Only second and mixed first / second class were delivered.
The 1959 type carriages are the final evolution of the project.
The roof was raised by 9cm, aerators were installed in correspondence with each compartment, type 24 bogies took the place of the original 27, allowing the maximum speed to be raised to 160km / h.
The type 1959 was born with Castano and Treno azzurro livery, Grigio ardesia in 1965 and Rosso fegato beige in the 80s'.
