How to use the Braindead Sniper™: The AWM-S!

A short guide to help you understand how to use the AWM-S, one of the most broken weapons in surviv.

Introduction to the AWM-S

Is the above image a representative of you? Do you lack the skills to actually kill a player in game? Do you rage whenever you die to a player that's better than you? Do you actually wear Chromesis? Well, the AWM-S is the perfect, no skill weapon for you!

This insanely good weapon is capable of either one-shotting or two-shotting an enemy opponent, no matter their gear set! Even if the person you're fighting is, God forbid, actually good at the game, one hit from this sniper will either outright pulverize their existence, or send them fleeing for cover!

History & Info of the AWM-S

The AWM-S is actually known as the AWC in real life, an internally suppressed sniper rifle that fires the .308 Winchester cartridge, used by the USSOCOM 1st SFOD-D, as well as the British Special Air Service & the German KSK.
The AWM is a sniper rifle that does exist in real life, however the one of the original developers of the game [Justin] confirmed the in-game art was drawn after the AWC, and this is further supported by the internal ID of the art asset.

In game, the AWM-S was introduced in v0.5.0, titled "Air drop it like it's hot". This update also introduced other notable things into the game, such as the M1 Garand, the QBB-97, air drops / supply drops, and the beautiful cast iron frying pan.

The AWM-S does 180 damage to any player that it hits [before armour damage reduction], and is one of the few weapons that can't perform headshots. It has a magazine size of 5 rounds, and uses the .308 Subsonic ammunition type in game, which is only used by one other weapon, the Mk 20 SSR.

How to use the AWM-S

Using the AWM-S is simple. You point, and shoot.

Well, really it's not that simple, as you need to track your opponent and shoot at them to make sure the shot hits. The AWM-S has a terribly slow bullet speed for a sniper rifle, so I would suggest for you to use it like a slug shotgun, instead of a sniper rifle. It's possible to hit enemies at a longer range, but it requires a combination of three things:

• The enemy is actually braindead
  
• The enemy is not paying attention
  
• Extreme luck

When an enemy is hit with the AWM-S, they will either instantly die, or be extremely low on health. If the enemy doesn't die from one shot from the AWM-S, you can rush in with a fast firing automatic weapon, or a shotgun, and finish them off in usually less than 5 shots.

Beware, however! The ammunition for the AWM-S is a special ammo type, and unless you have an Infinite ammo perk, you'll need to make those shots count.

Personally, I save the AWM-S for when I'm getting harassed by a tryhard, to shut them down instantly. Wasting a shot of the .308 ammo on a bad player is just a waste, as unless you're terrible yourself, you could just kill them with the other weapon you currently possess.

However, if you do run out of ammunition, you can always search for one of these crates:

You can break it open with a Wooden Axe, Sledgehammer, or a select few other melee weapons. Airstirkes also break this crate wide open, but there is rarely a situation where you will see this happen.

Now, under the extremely rare circumstance that you find two AWM-S sniper rifles in-game, pick them both up! Even if you only intend to use one, an enemy may find the other AWM-S and end your game faster than a tryhard disconnects from a lobby with 60+ players in it. One less AWM-S for your foe is one less chance that you have of being game ended instantly.

How to counter the AWM-S

Now, God forbid you go up against an AWM-S, but it's very possible, especially in modes like Cobalt, Potato and Desert.

You need to find indestructible cover, and quick. The AWM-S can instantly destroy any obstacle with one shot.

Try to out-scope the enemy if possible, if they have a lower tier scope than you. This will allow you to take them out with ease, without them even firing off a single shot.

Try to also bait shots from the player with the AWM-S, as each shot wastes a precious .308 bullet. If they run out, they'll only have their other weapon left, and it should be easy pickings for you! Although the AWM-S will be useless once you kill said foe.

AWM-S go "buhhhhhh"

So, generally the AWM-S doesn't take much skill to use. It's a "good God get me out of this fight" kind of weapon, a "get out of jail free" card. Treat your AWM-S well, and you're sure to be on your way to a chicken dinner.

Going up against an AWM-S however, say your prayers, you will most likely die.

of all the fings in the list, i used cromesis when i got it, i dont use it anymore, i maybe rage if a player kills me, but only when like, i spawn half way trough the match( pretty much) and i get killed because every single place i go to is looted or has someone looting it and yes, i can kill players, even with an ot-38(not recomended)
