Metal Slug 3 Achievements explained. Pictures included.

General achievements

Metal Slug 3 is not an easy game, but don't worry. The more you play it and memorize it, the better you get at it. The game has rather straightforward achievements and most of them require quite a bit of grinding.

You will get most of the achievements by simply playing the game a lot, but getting 100% completion requires some serious skill.

Grinding Achievements

NURSE, HERO and THE KING OF RECOVERY require you to rescue P.O.W.s (Prisoners of War). The amount needed (1000) is pretty high and requires many runs through the game. Luckily, you only need to free the prisoners, you don't need to make it to the end of the level for them to count towards these achievements. P.O.W.s are tied guys with yellow beards. They appear on every level.

GRENADE LOVER and GRENADE KING require you to throw grenades at your enemies. You spawn with 10 grenades and you can find more from ammo boxes. You should get these achievements sooner than you'd expect.

The TOMBS achievement series requires you to kill enemy soldiers. That's kinda what you do in this game, so you will get all of these in no time. Even though it says enemy soldiers, aliens and other enemies count towards this achievement too.

The FETICHIST achievement series requires you to use each of the characters 100 times. Sounds like a lot? Well, I guess it is. Continues won't count. Only starting a new playthrough in any game mode counts towards these achievements. You don't get the achievement instantly after 100 times, you'll need to rescue the first P.O.W. in the mission for the game to check the achievement status.

Misc Achievements

Play once as every of the four characters in the game to unlock the CHARACTER MASTER achievement. Again, only starting a new playthrough counts towards this achievement.

Obtain every special weapon in the game at least once to unlock the WEAPON MASTER achievement. Doesn't have to be in the same playthrough. You are very likely to get this before completing the game for the first time.

To obtain these achievements, you need to reach a certain amount of points without using a continue. You can die twice, but your score will reset if you go to the "Continue?" screen. Fastest way to obtain these is to put the game on easy difficulty and play the Mission 1. The crab enemies in the level are pretty passive, so you can just stand back and fire away. Check "Mission 1" - section for a video walkthrough.

Clear any mission with "no miss" to unlock the NINJA achievement. In English this means "Clear a mission without dying". Again, this is done easily during the first mission, by setting the game on easy difficulty. Check the "Mission 1" - section for a video walkthrough.

Probably the biggest obstacle between you and 100% completion. Clear the game using a single credit. Just practice a lot. The MASTER NINJA achievement can be unlocked on any difficulty setting. There are multiple ways to cheat this achievement. You can start playing from Mission 5 in mission mode. If you are really hopeless, you can die yourself and then watch your friend complete the game.

Unlock everything in the gallery to finally get THE COLLECTOR achievement. Just do most of the other achievements and you'll unlock this one too. The achievement is triggered by checking your gallery after having 100% completion in it.

Obtain 29 out of 30 achievements to unlock the final achievement, MASTER OF METAL SLUG. Like it's name, you will need to become a master of Metal Slug to earn this achievement.

Multiplayer Achievements

Connect to a friend's game or create your own lobby and invite someone into it to unlock the COOL achievement. This achievement can't be obtained from local co-op.


TEAMWORK achievement can be either really hard or really easy, depending on your co-op partner. You will need to get a combined score of 1,000,000 points. You don't get shared points from killing enemies, the killer gets all the points. Your individual score will reset every time you need to use a continue. If you are playing with your little brother, you can get the 1M points by yourself and still get the achievement.

UPDATE: I actually tested this few days ago and in the current version the first player to get 1M points gets the achievement, instead of both getting it when combined score is 1M.

MISSION 1

Complete Mission 1 on any difficulty to unlock the ROOKIE achievement. Easiest path is to not go into the submarine and to not go into the boat, but keep going upward and into the tube. On that route all your enemies will be crabs. Although taking the boat makes the boss battle easier. You decide.

Bump into Rumi Aikawa during Mission 1 to unlock the OASIS OF THE BATTLEFIELD (RUMI) achievement. She'll be coming down the stairs near the submarine. Pretty hard to miss. She'll give you the super grenade special weapon.



If you take the "tube route" during Mission 1 you can rescue Utan the chimp and get the I LOVE BANANAS achievement. He is trapped inside a cage. If you shoot the cage, Utan will follow you around with his Mac-10 submachine gun until you die. Unfortunately, he is easily distracked from fighting and starts picking his nose or scratching his private parts.

MISSION 2

If you missed the I LOVE BANANAS achievement on the first level, you will most likely unlock it on the second level. Utan the chimp is once again trapped inside a cage. Break him free to unlock the achievement.







The next two achievements are only available when going through the alternative cave path on Mission 2. About halfway through the level, you should see a wall with an "ICEMAN" sign above it. Shoot the door to enter the cave.









The cave is full of sasquatches that attack you with their snow projectiles. Get hit by one to unlock the SNOWMAN achievement. Rapidly smash all the buttons to escape your snowy prison. After landing the snow attack, the enemies will hit you with their clubs.






Rescue Madoka Aikawa to unlock the OASIS OF THE BATTLEFIELD (MADOKA) achievement. She is trapped inside one of the steelboxes located deeper in the cave. She is hard to miss.

MISSION 3

There are no achievements that are exclusive to Mission 3

MISSION 4

Early during the Mission 4, you'll get a chance to get the HYAKUTARO ARRIVES achievement. After the second truck, you should see a pile of sandbags on the ground. Get them out of the way and you should discover a POW under them. Hyakutaro is no ordinary POW though. He'll follow you and attack your enemies until you die.

FINAL MISSION

Complete the Mission 5 to get the GAME CLEAR achievement. This can be done in the Mission mode, meaning that once you have reached the final mission, you can start playing from the start of the final mission with full credits. Again, easiest way to do this is to put the game on easy difficulty. The bosses on the final mission are easier than the boss in Mission 4. Final mission is more of an endurance race as the stage just goes on and on...

Help. No matter what I do, I can't seem to complete THE COLLECTOR achievement. I'm missing the first two pics from PAGE 2, I already rescued the 1000 POWS, killed over 2K soldiers, went through every branching path, finished the game with every character. Am I doing something wrong? What am I missing here?
