[Obsolete] Workaround for Win7/8.0 dxgi.dll error

A update broke compability with Win7/8.0 (8.1 is fine) causing the error message "The procedure entry point CreateDXGIFactory2 could not be located in the dynamic link library dxgi.dll"

The issue has been fixed already. This guide is obsolete.

Instructions

Download Reshade[www.reshade.me] . It's a .exe but you can extract it with packing tools like winrar, winzip or 7zip.

Move ReShade64.dll from the extracted package to Steam\steamapps\common\Dead by Daylight\DeadByDaylight\Binaries\Win64

Rename it to dxgi.dll

The game will start now but there will be a anoying overlay at the top. To get rid of it press Pos1 as it demands and click through the tutorial (you don't need to pay attention to anything just click continue and then finish). And then press ESC.

Explaination

The entry point (function) "CreateDXGIFactory2" belongs to DXGI 1.3. This means that the devs upgraded/included some library/framework/engine that relies on DXGI 1.3 which is not supported below Windows 8.1 (docs)[docs.microsoft.com].

Regarding the Workaround: Reshade is a tool designed to enhance graphics by allowing the user to inject custom effects.

It works by pretending to be a part of the windows API and intercepting the application's API calls to mess with them. The important part for our purposes is that Reshade supports Windows 7/8.0 as it's host platform and exposes an newer API (on which DbD relies) that Windows 7/8.0 itself doesn't support. Thereby acting as a compability layer.

The original Workaround also included a solution if xinput1_4.dll is missing but this was only relevant during the PTB and has been fixed since then.

guess it's time for me to spam the workaround i used during the ptb to get the game to launch on windows 7.
