Harvest Moon : Light of Hope - Plantation Guide
By santasnowy
well, as usual, I'm on my way to unlock all achievements, which includes :
- Crop Connoisseur : harvest all crops, and
- Flower Fanatic : harvest all flowers

but, I found the info for crop & flower mutation and fertilization written in several different guides.
hence, in an effort to help myself condense & make sense of all info, I've created this little guide.
hope this guide may in some way help you as well.

**this guide is not yet complete, I'm updating as I play.

Rule of Thumb
some notes on how to use the guide :

1. seeds listed in orange & green (color) are the basic seeds that you'll unlock as you complete the story-line (they are colored just for easy reading & basic differentiation between crops and flowers).
orange - crops
green - flowers

2. "mutation requirements" are listed in order of Season / Planting Area / Base Seed / Whether Fertilizer is Required for Mutation ("auto" means you DO NOT need to do anything, just plant the base seed according to the other 3 requirements and the seeds will mutation on their own).

3. "notes of mutation" covers the Special requirements needed for 2 plants to mutate (because if you don't follow that planting rule, they wouldn't mutation even if you hit the rest of the 4 requirements).

4. "sell ? to unlock seed" covers the no. of crops you need to sell to Bastian/Carol/Sam (no matter which one you sell to as the system counts the total no. of crops/flowers you sold to these three. although I sell to Bastian, for crops, and Carol for flowers, mainly because of their higher paying price).

5. "initial plant health in Spring/Summer/Fall/Winter" helps me track the crops & flowers' health as I'm currently only in my year 1 Winter, hence, I don't have lots of resources to fertilize everyday. so knowing that helps me count the no. of resources I need to either keep a plan alive or to mutate it; also helps me decide which crops to plan in any season (maximizes my initial planting effort).
**but as you can see, this is still a work-in-progress.

general rule of thumb on fertilization (for me):
- crop/flower health level pyramid goes from - Gold -> White -> Blue
Gold : excellent health

White : good - okay health

Blue : okay - dying health

- generally, I only fertilize at blue health (because it means that your plant is dying, usually, and will die faster/immediately on bad weather conditions).

- Fertilizer itself seems enough on ensuring your plant's health (although for some, you have to fertilize more than once through the season to ensure that crops do not die because of out of season plantation &/or bad weather).

- misconception that in season planting always give Gold health (at least that's what I thought initially, but no. for example, cabbage planted in winter is an in-season crop, but it's life status starts at white, even though it may be in-season).

- I only use blends as per mutation requirement, not for health maintenance.

6. you can ignore the "seed unlocked? , "? of Days to Harvest" and "Re-harvest in ? Days" column as these are just to help myself track my status.
