On this page you'll find a bunch of useful information as well as five character builds for your party. The builds used here require the use of the Unity Console mod to use with the story companions, but you could adapt them for a party of 5 custom characters quite easily - you'd lose Tekehu's unique spells and abilities, though. Note that these builds have been tested on Veteran difficulty with scaling turned on, but they have not been tested in Path of the Damned.
A: Ship & Crew Members
This section will help you build towards an optimised late-game ship setup. These are the best crew members in the game.

Community Patch

[Balance, Visuals, Fixes] The Community Patch mod does a lot of different things, I recommend installing the Basic, Icons, and Typos modules, and consider installing the Extra module if you like what it does. Each file is installed into the Override directory. Do NOT install the Keywords mod as it breaks several elemental weapons in Deadfire.

Full Achievements File for Berath's Blessings

[Cheats] Using this file will give you tons of points to use for Berath's Blessings. A bit of fun for those that have played the game many times but never got all the achievements. This file goes into the C:\Users\<your name>\Saved Games\Pillars of Eternity II\Achievements directory. You only have to do this once, afterwards it will be saved to your Steam Cloud.

Binary Opposed Dispositions

Everyone's Two Cents

[Audio] This mod makes all party members say their voiced lines where the game usually picks a random one and skips the others. It only uses lines that go well together and don't repeat each other, so it feels more like a group conversation. Installed into Override, but it isn't packaged properly, so you'll need to manually create a folder called 'EveryonesTwoCents' and then place the contents of Everyone's Two Cents-417-1-5-1617826479.zip into it, then place that folder into Override.

Sissak Conversation Reward Fix(The Third Eye)

Comprehensive Leveling Improvement and EXP Reduction

[Balance] Increases the experience required to reach level 20 in a way that makes the game better, not harder. Installed into Override, but requires extra step. Go to Assembly-CSharp.dll within the Managed directory and rename it, e.g. Assembly-CSharp.dll.BAK. Now put the new Assembly-CSharp.dll from the mod, next to the old Assembly-CSharp.dll. Note that this mod should work fine with Unity Console.

Booty Buster (Economy Rework)

[Balance] Reduces income obtained via selling items and increases it from other sources. Selling items to faction traders that you have high reputation with improves the selling price. Installed into Override.

Potion of Enlightenment

[Balance] After drinking this potion, every 30s you will regain a resource point. The intent is to help classes with a resource pool in 'war of attrition' encounters, such as the Megaboss battles. The potion can be crafted or bought from specific vendors. This mod is intended to be used alongside the Deadfire Balance Polishing Mod.

Deadfire Balance Polishing Mod

[Fixes, Balance] Buffs and nerfs key abilities to make the game more interesting. Before using this mod, rename all the CommunityPatch mods inside the Override directory so that they have the word 'Balance' in front of them, for example CommunityPatchBasic becomes BalanceCommunityPatchBasic - this will fix a conflict. Then download the Buffs, Nerfs and Summon Rebalance files and place the directories into your Override folder. Note that this mod represents a significant change in the game's meta. Abilities like Unbending, Sure Handed Was Ila (double-dipping on reload weapons), Wall of Draining, Salvation of Time and Barring Death's Door have been quite heavily nerfed. The Brilliant inspiration has been nerfed. Mage Slayer, Psion and other subclasses have been reworked or tweaked.
C: Unity Console

This mod has its own section because it requires some additional steps to get working, and it is a little more complicated than other mods. What is Unity Console? It is a mod that allows for the manipulation of the game in various ways - for example, you could spawn an item, or change a character's base class. It is a mod that should be enabled when you need it, then disabled afterwards, in order to prevent issues.

How To Install Unity Console
  • Go to your Deadfire game folder, this is the folder where PillarsOfEternityII.exe is located.
  • Place the contents of Unity_Console_PoE2-2-1-1.7z into the game folder.
  • If done correctly, IPA.exe and PillarsOfEternityII.exe should be in the same folder now.
  • Download the updated Pillars.PY file from here[drive.google.com].
  • Go the game folder and click + drag PillarsOfEternityII.exe onto IPA.exe.
  • Unity Console is now enabled (use the new shortcut). To disable Unity Console:
  • Click + drag PillarsOfEternityII.exe onto IPA.exe again, but this time hold down LALT.
  • Remember that Unity Console should be disabled after modifying your game save.
  • Do not keep Unity Console enabled during normal play!

How To Modify Character Classes Using Unity Console
  • Go to the Character Sheet of your chosen character while the Unity Console is open.
  • Select the option to change your chosen character's classes, and then press Convert.
  • You will be placed into the level up screen. At the top right, click the X and leave the screen.
  • (That is to say, click the in-game X, not the Unity Console X)
  • Remove all equipment, to isolate the passives and abilities on your Character Sheet.
  • UC doesn't reset your class completely so some old abilities and passives will remain.
  • Re-open the Character Sheet with the Unity console open (CTRL+F8 if you closed it).
  • Use the remove abilities and remove effects menus to remove things from the previous class.
  • You can see which abilities are from your old class by scrolling down to the Abilities section.
  • You might have to remove your old weapon proficiencies.
  • Now you can go back to the Level Up screen and continue levelling your character.
  • Changing class too often is not advised, especially not with Rangers.
  • Back up your save before making any changes.

▬ First Party ▬
Tested extensively on Veteran with scaling turned on. Might be effective in POTD, but Tekehu's build might be a bit too squishy for that difficulty. Note that the Unity Console mod is required to use custom classes with vanilla companions. Also, these builds were not created for use with Elric's Balance Polishing mod, but rather for vanilla balance.

Why wouldn't a Swashbuckler be suitable for Turn Based? Passively Riposting is great in TB (although might need the
Community Patch to adjust Riposte odds on Miss/Graze - due to increased Graze range in TB) IMO its one of the best martial multiclasses for TB! Maybe needs a bit more offensive weapon setup, though :)

@Lampros: kind of, they can be heavily modified though, such as dumping DEX, and also one of the builds, the Swashbuckler, isn't optimal in turn-based.
