So you are interested in experiencing what Counter-Strike was like before Steam came into the picture?

Half-life: Counter-Strike version 1.0 got released November 8, 2000 after staging from beta version 1.0 in June 19, 1999 to beta version 7.1, September 13, 2000.

June 12, 2002, Counter-Strike was updated to 1.5, and was the last version to not run on Steam, it used the WON for online-servers as the previous versions of the game which Valve shut down their last WON servers July 31, 2004 and therefore the last players of 1.5 had to find themselves installing Steam and 1.6 to play online.

Counter-Strike 1.6 beta, was meanwhile launched to the Steam beta testers on January 16, 2003 and got out of beta September, 9 2003 with Steam launching officially September 12th.

Funfact: Fans created WON2 in 2004, so people who were not interested to play 1.6 could play the versions from 1-0-1.5 online.

Install

Here I will show you how to download and install Counter-Strike 1.5.

First, you will need to download the installation file: Counter-Strike 1.5 download [drive.google.com]

- Open the CS15Setup program, and select your setup language (If Windows Defender SmartScreen shows up, click "More info" and then "Run anyway")
- Select a folder you want to install CS 1.5 in, and then click Next

 for example: D:\Sierra\Counter-Strike 

- Select a start menu folder, and klick Next
- Choose if you want a desktop icon, click Next
- Click Install and let the install do their job

There you go! Simple and easy, make sure to click "Play" when you have opened the launcher.
