Nostale basic gameplay Elements & Guide notation
  • Progression
You start as an Adventurer with 2 bars of experience. One for your combat level, and one for your job level. You will have to reach level 15 combat and level 20 job. I will write this combination of level as 15|20 for the rest of the guide

  • Classes
Once at this level, you can chose one of the 3 classes available to you. Tips can be found for that in the next section. Your combat level will reset to 1 but your combat level will stay where it was. Your job level will increase when you kill monsters and is necessary to level up to wear SP

  • SP or Specialist Cards
This is the core element of the game. Each class can equip one of 8 specialist cards locked to his class plus 4 specialist cards available to any class. The firsts four are obtainable through quests and Time-Spaces and the lasts four are available through raid (you will learn what raid ares later) boxes. Each class has 2 Light, 2 Shadow, 2 Fire, and 2 Water element SP, but their distribution is not the same for any class (you can read more about the light sp distribution in the next section). The list of all the SP in the game, their required level for combat and job, and their element can be found here[nostale.fandom.com]. The important thing you need to know is that the sp require combat level 36, 46, 55, and 65 to accept the quest and require job level 20, 35, 50, and 55 to wear them for the first four SP.
The SP cards have their own job level and once you get level 21 you start gaining 3 points per level. With those points you can increase your SP attack, defense, element, or HP/MP. If you play PvE the usual route is increasing to 10 or 20 in Attack, 0 in defense, 10 or 20 in HP/MP and the rest in element because monsters in PvE usually have no special resistance against you (In PvP consider your ennemy with 200% res in your element so you should increase attack, this will increase your damage whether the ennemy has res or not )

  • Time-Spaces
The main quest line is centered around time spaces that are instances where only you and your group can enter, and must have finished previous time-spaces to access. They start at level 1 and finish at level 90 with around 103 time-spaces in total. They are defined by their level and finishing them gives you a random reward viewable before you enter, it is always the same items but you might not end up getting the one you want

  • Elements
Every monster and player can be of 5 elements : No element, Water, Fire, Light, or Shadow. The element of the entity determines damage bonus when you attack it and it goes like this . Fire is stronger than Shadow that is stronger than Water that is stronger than Light that is stronger than Fire. Those strengths increase damage by 50%. Fire and Water deal 100% more damage to eachother, and Light and Shadow deal 200% more damage to eachother.

[*] Fairies To increase your elemental strength, you might need to equip a fairy, they basically add damages to your attack, depending on how strong its element is compared to your ennemies. Fairies can be of any of the 4 element, but only one element at a time and must match your SP's element if it has one [*] Weapons and Armours Weapons and Armours come in different Levels, Rarity, and Upgrade. When you drop, buy, or craft a weapon or armour, it will have a fixed level along with his name and stats and those cannot be modified. However you can increase the rarity of the item by betting it at Theodor Topp in Nosville for 500 gold and 5 cella powder. If the betting fails, you lose the item unless you equiped a special amulet from the NosMall that protects it, but if the betting suceed the rarity will change, ranging from r-2 (rarity minus two) to r7. Each level of rarity increase the base stats of the item (damage for weapon and defense and dodge for armours) Items can also be upgraded to increase their +level. It ranges from 0 to 10. To upgrade an item +level, you need cellas and soul gems, you can talk to Theomann Topp to upgrade the item but you risk losing the item if you do not use a protecting scroll for equipment. Also the upgrade can half fail and forbid upgrading the item again (but not destroying the item). You can always unblock the upgrade with a liberating scroll or bypass the blockage with an amulet [*] Resistances You can equip gloves & boots to increase your resistance to one or multiple elements. They range from +1% to +10% in one element and you can combine up to 7 boots or 7 gloves in one with a little bit of luck to increase linearly the resistance. You can have more than 100% resistance in one element but that does not grant you immunity to their damage [*] Followers You can be accompagnied by 2 NPC, one is humanoïd and is called your partner, the other one is your pet. You can capture pet by yourself if they have the capturable tag on them but you can also buy them at the Nosmall or from other players. I could not recommend you enough to spend some gold on a Nosmall pet, they are as low as 100k by the time I'm writing this guide and they will literally carry you from level 0 to your first sp, they will hit up to 4 times as much as you hit so it is a no brainer, get a pet ASAP ! You can also have a partner, they unlock in ts 25, 35 and 49 but can also be bought from the shop or from other player, or even as a reward in some raids. They are less powerful because you need to equip them with good armor, weapons, and resistance to make them useful so way more expensive, they also come with specialist cards that gives them up to 3 spells you can cast [/lis

Xp from level 1 to 15|20 & Chosing your class
When you start at level 1|1 in Nosville, you have 2 choices to xp
  • Follow the quest line
  • Immediately farm monsters

The first choice would be the smartest choice in the long run because it will yield a lot of xp starting at Act 1-2 (around level 19) and can also give some gold (100k) in Act 1-5 in exchange for buyable items

Personnaly I usually follow the second route, farming monster because it allows me to get to level 15|20 way faster, and from there I usually start doing the quest with better equipement, thus making it faster. Also doing this way allow you to use all of the exp the quest gives you toward your new class, and not "wasting it" on leveling up your Adventurer's job but this is debatable

As a new player in Nostale, you can chose between 3 classes once you reach level 15|20
  • Swordman : attacks mainly with a sword, and has a crossbo for secondary attacks. Crossbow attacks require ammo that can be bought at Theoman Topp. His first 4 SP are pretty slow and heavy, but pretty tanky
  • Archer : attacks mainly with a bow, and has a dagger for secondary attacks. Bow attack require ammo that can be bought at Theoman Topp. 3 of his first 4 SP are rather fast moving and attacking, but don't have much health at all. I do not recommend playing this class without a pet from Nosmall to tank the monsters, as it would be much harder
  • Sorcerer : attacks mainly with a staff, and has a magic pistol for secondary attacks. Both attack require a little bit of mana but no ammo. His SP are a little bit slow but deal a good amount of damage at range but lack health and sometimes mana

Chosing a Swordman is a good choice because it will make you able to kill thousands of monster without using any mana and without using any gold for ammo. Furthermore you are quite tanky so playing solo (without nosmall's pet) is achievable. His first SP is also really good in PvP but I will not write a lot about PvP in this guide
The downside for chosing the Swordman is that his light SP will cost you quite some farm and 1.000.000 gold, and require you to be 55 to take the quest and jobLvl 50 to equip the SP

The archer is a good choice if you have access to enough ammo to not make your progression slower. His first sp is really good for PvE and PvP but has water element so you might get the SP before getting a Fairy
The downside for chosing the Archer is that his light SP will cost you some farm and 3.000.000 gold, and require you to be 65 to take the quest and jobLvl 55 to equip the SP. This is the reason why I do not recommand this class at all for a first class when you start on a new server

My recommended class for a new player is Mage, and with the new server that started on August 5th, my intuition was correct as there were a lot of Mage playing. The reason for that is that the mage require no ammo, has quite good damage but most importantly, his light SP is the more accessible at level 46|35 and can deal damage and heal. It is your entry key for finding a family to access LoD once you reach level 55.
Making gold when you don't have any
You can always kill monsters around your level to drop their loot, it can be ressources, specials items or equipement. You should most of the time always sell to NPC items that state a gold value (for example mandragoras are the best to sell early game).
You can also sell weapons and armour to NPC if they don't have a high rarity but I recommend betting every trash item you find, in case your bet succeed and you get a r7 you can sell it for a lot of gold at the nosbazar or to other players
Those were the basics to make gold when you don't have any, you can also repeat some time spaces that contains different monster which you may find more interesting, you can also do the time-spaces for raid seals and sell them to the people creating raids, you can also offer your help for money in game (but this applies to high level players), you can also try your luck by buying equipement, betting it and re sell it, or making resistances but I do not recommend that as it is risky and not really rewarding

Somehow I'm on battle and job level 20 and didn't get a chance to get a class. Did I miss something or is it a bug? If I did miss something, can I still choose one?
