Terraria 1.4 - Gnome & Garden Gnome Statue Farm - 100 Gnomes in 5min! Easy!
De către BOT Nano
Hey Guys,

Today I'd like to share with you my favourite method of farming Garden Gnomes in Terraria 1.4 Journey's End. Why would you ever want to farm them in the first place? Well, among other great new features, 1.4 gave us Luck, a hidden game stat which increases chances of getting rare items (Bloody Tears, Frozen Turtle Shells, etc,), spawning rare monsters and critters (the Bride & Groom, gold bunnies, etc), increases fishing power and many other things. For a complete list of effects, please refer to this page - https://terraria.gamepedia.com/LuckA Garden Gnome statue increases your chances of getting rare items, spawning rare mobs, by about 10%. So, if the Groom has a base chance to drop a Bloody Tear 1 in 9 or about 11.11%, and you have 1.0 effective luck (garden gnome 0.2 + matching biome torch 0.2 + lady bug effect 0.4 + luck potions up to 0.3) this makes it instead a 1 in 6 chance of getting it, not to mention that the Groom (along with other rare mobs) has now a higher chance to spawn during the Blood Moon event. The cumulative effects of luck is very noticeable.So, now that you know that Luck is very important, how many gnomes do you need? Well, I suggest placing them in every arena and everywhere you could potential trigger an event, such as invasions, boss fights and so on. The gnomes provide they luck bonus only in about 40 tile radius, similar to campfires, so you would want to place them about 80 tiles apart. In this video we are going to aim to build a farm that can produce 100 Garden Gnomes per 5 min! Enjoy!

In a nutshell, this is how we maximize spawn rates of Gnomes:

Locate a living tree with a room (the one that usually has a living loom, chest, table and chairs)

Dig a vertical tunnel about 30-50 tiles away from the tree going down all the way to the level of the room. Make it several blocks wide and remove all walls to let sunlight in.

Fill in all caves and hollow areas in a 60-70 tile radius with solid blocks to prevent other mobs from spawning.

Make a single tunnel going from the living room to your position (ideally about 84-90 blocks away from the edge of the living room.

Remove all walls from the tunnel except for the naturally occurring living wood walls

Make a micro jungle biome right underneath you to turn this area into a jungle. I show a very quick and easy way to do so in the video above, only takes a couple mins.

Place a water candle, drink a battle potions and wait!

For best results you can place a jungle torch (remove normal torches as they give a penalty to your luck in any biome other than forest), drink a luck potion and touch a wild lady bug (they are naturally abundant during windy days near NPC houses). This will increase the chances of Gnomes to spawn by up to 50%!

Enjoy collecting 20 Garden Gnomes every minute or 100 every 5 min!

Thank you!

@pushigdaisies,
Make sure 2 things happen:
1. No other mobs spawn around (fill in gaps with sand / water). Mobs spawn between 63 and 84 blocks left/right from the player, 36-47 blocks up/down
2. Make sure the player is standing on the same level as the floor of the living tree chamber and 63 blocks away from it's entrance

Also, if you happen to have mods installed, it may or may not work. We had 2 people in our discord server having the same issue. Once they removed the mods, it worked.

@Hollow Knight idiot,
Yes, they can be mined with a pickaxe and placed all over your arenas and farming / fishing spots. They add 0.2 luck, which increases chances of spawning rare monsters, getting rare items, reduces the incoming damage by about 2% and increases damage dealt to enemies by about 2%. Aim to max out luck around 1.0, which would give a huge increase in drop rates and reduce incoming damage by 5%.

@RaifanZell, thank you! Yes, garden gnomes are very useful. Every little bit of luck helps with getting rare drops or spawning rare monsters. It even increases your damage by about 5%.

At last, some enlightenment. I've been wondering what to do with these. Thanks for the info.
