Terraria fishing guide!
Da BOT Nano
Hey Guys,

Terraria 1.4 Journey's End brings a lot of new content and some big changes to fishing! Yes, we got a few nerfs (Reavershark *sob*), but most of the updates are actually pretty good and I'll explain why.

Magic Conch and Demon Conch have been added to the game - The former teleports you to the furthest ocean relative to your current position while the latter takes you to the Underworld (no more hellevators!).

Another great thing about the update is that a lot more biome crates are now available and the loot they have is incredible! You now can fish for most biome specific items that are very rare and could previously be only obtained from rare chests found in those particular biomes. For example, frozen crates offer the same loot which is normally obtained from frozen chests in snow biomes. Ocean crates have the same loot as Water Chests.

Not to mention the new Blood moon fishing option which adds quite a few new items including some of the best early game summoning weapons both pre-Hardmode and Hardmode.

For a quick Blood Moon fishing guide please refer to this video -

So, let's get started!

If you prefer to watch a video tutorial instead, please check out this link -

First thing to do when starting a new world is get some coins. You will need at least 50 silver to get going. And build a few NPC houses so that you don't have to worry about that later. As soon as the merchant NPC arrives, get a bug net and an anvil, if you don't already have one.

Craft a reinforced fishing pole using anvil and 8 bars of iron/lead.

Start flipping rocks with a pickaxe and gathering worms. At night gather some fallen stars and combine with the worms to craft enchanted nightcrawlers. They give a hefty 35% bait power. Together with the reinforced fishing pole, you now have a base fishing power of 50%!

Next, locate an oasis water well/pond and make a house on top, to bring 2 NPCs later on a put a desert pylon for quick teleporting to this location. Wait till morning (4:30am) or just before dusk (6pm) to start fishing. This way you will have another +30% fishing power! It gets even better during rain and full moon. You can reach 100%+ fishing power which makes catching high tier crates and rare items much quicker.

Our goal is to get oasis crates which can have a magic conch. In a large world, it would save a lot of time and trouble, especially in Master mode. Once you get the conch, teleport to the ocean and get the angler. Start doing fishing quests immediately. The angler will reward you with valuable potions and accessories. You will get

Sonar Potions

Fishing Potions (+20% fishing power)

Crate Potions (greatly increases the chances of catching a crate)

High Test fishing line - prevents line breaks

Tackle box - decreases chances of wasting bait

Angler Earing - increase fishing power

Angler set (hat, pants, vest) - increases fishing power

Weather Radio

Sextant - shows moon phase

pocket fishing guide - shows fishing power

Fuzzy Carrot - Bunny Mount

Master Bait (+50% fishing power!)

Golden Fishing Rod (upon completing 30 quests)

Golden Bug net (random but highly valuable! a must for early Lava fishing)

and more....

And not to forget about the amazing lava shark mount! It's covered in the videos but I should mention it here too. It's one of the best mounts in the game and offers incredible mobility early game. You can use it to beat many bosses and events, including Master Mode Skeletron, Wall of Flesh and Mechs.

Gather a few dozen master bait, some sonar, fishing and crate potions and wait for perfect fishing conditions. Then go to the pond of your choice and get as many high tier crates as you can. This way you can acquire a ton of accessories, metal bars, weapons, etc. You can pretty much get full platinum armor and tools, frog leg, tsunami in a bottle, sailfish boots, and a lot more useful items early on.

You can now look into crafting the fabled Terraspark Boots!

Here's a complete guide - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A1SD9Xb8uMw&t=715s

The above link shows the entire process, including the part where we have to fish in lava for obsidian crates to get ourselves the ultra rare accessory - Lava Charm

Once you have acquired most of the top pre-hardmore items and have max fishing power, - it's time to fish in Crimson/ Corruption/ Dungeon and get some platinum coins! You can easily get up to 4 platinum in 10 min!

Here's how - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wz4cT4o9du4&t=9s

Hope this helps!

Enjoy!

@Glitchedout, the sitting duck fishing pole is really good early on! But you need to be super lucky to get it from the merchant as it's one of the rarest items in his inventory.
