Short Cut "Babygame / Art Ending" in under 4 *MINUTES*
By The Real HELLCAT
This is a guide on how to conviniently "short cut" through the babygame in way, way less than 4 hours to reach the "Art Ending" - without missing any of the narration on the way, you actually go through the whole game but with somewhat "accelerated time(r)".

Overview / What Is This
ATTENTION: The information in this guide might be considered "spoilerish", so only read ahead if you are sure you want to risk being spoilered a bit here and there.

With that out of the way, in this guide we're looking at a way of taking a "short cut" or more like a "rushing through" the babygame to get to the Art Ending.

The way we're going to trick the game is by manually advancing the timer used to count the four hours, so you will not miss any of the narration or artfull experience.
The Console!
We'll be working all our magic trickery from "the console"!

There is plenty of high detail guides out there on what the console is and how to enable it, so I'll be brief here:

  • Right click the "The Stanley Parable" entry in your Steam game library
  • Choose "Properties"
  • On the "General" tab, hit the "Set Launch Options" buttons
  • The text input should be empty, if it isn't you're one of the ones that know what to do here anyways so we'll assume it's empty for now.
    Enter this:
    -console
(Note the leading "-", it's important that there is a leading "-"!)
  • Close everything with the appropriate "OK", "Apply" and "Save" buttons

When you now start the game, you'll be presented with "The Console"!

Now enter this:
bind "c" "toggleconsole"
For "c" you can use whatever key you like to open and close the console, by default it is "~", but that doesn't work well on most non-US keyboards, so go wild and choose a key of your liking (I have the console bound to "F11" for example).

After doing that, at any time in the game you can open and close the console with the key you have chosen (C in this example).
The Magic Trickery
Shortcut to the Babygame

If you don't want to play all the regular way to the babygame (you know, the whole "lounge, cargo lift, catwalk, blue door" deal) you can just fire it up from any point in the game (even from the mainmenu when just having launched the game) by executing this command in the console:

map babygame

This will drop you directely to the beginning of the Babygame.

The Binds

Now we need to add two keybindings to work our trickery (and those are the actual magic here), enter the following commands at the console preferabely before the actual Babygame starts (i.e. either before going there in the first place or pause during the opening narration):

bind "1" "ent_fire thebutton use ; ent_fire puppybutton use" bind "2" "ent_fire bigcount firetimer"

Of course you can choose whatever keys you like to attach those bindings to, "1" and "2" are just examples and worked rather nice for me.

Now, what do those bindings do?
  • The first binding is a "helping hand" for about half way through the babygame, as when the 2 hour mark has been hit you need to push a second button in addition to the first one to save a little puppy AND the baby.
This can get really annoying and unrelaxed, so what this binding does is when you press the assigned key ("1" in this case) it pushes BOTH buttons, so you'll have no problem saving baby and puppy all at once.

  • The second binding is the actual magic that keeps us from having to do this for four hours!
The map has a timer entity that fires every five minutes, and at specific counts of the timer beeing fired certain actions (narrator talking or the Art Ending) will be performed.
So what this binding does is to manually fire the timer and so in a way advancing the time passed by five minutes per key press.

Let's do it already!

Long story short, here we go!

After setting up above bindings let the game begin!

Now, whenever you feel the need to push a button, just press "1" (or w/e key you chosse to bind that actions to), no need to actually walk to the button and/or use the mouse.

Now, also keep pressing "2" (again, or w/e key you've chosen) to advance the game internal time by 5 minutes each key press.

Every now and so often keypress of "2" the narrator will jump into action, to be precise:
Key presses since last action
Time game thinks has passed since Babygame began
Action
3
0:15h
Narration ("Enthusiasm")
3
0:30h
Narration ("In for it")
6
1:00h
Narration ("Visitor")
12
2:00h
Narration ("Two Hours") + Puppy gets added
6
2:30h
Narration ("Both still alive")
6
3:00h
Narration ("The Joy")
4
3:20h
Narration ("You can go on forever")
4
3:40h
Narration ("Over 3 1/2 hours?")
4
4:00h
Art Ending
(The narration names are just random names I made up while writing that list, don't mind them.)

So, this is it, you've beaten the Babygame and reached the Art Ending - I didn't actually take the time, but I think even when listening to all narrations you can do it in under four MINUTES now, definitaly not HOURS AND HOURS....

Enjoy! :-)

Remember:

No need to use the mouse to push any buttons, just hit "1" to push baby and puppy button at once - no matter where you are standing at the moment.

It seemed to work! One thing, might just be that I skipped past it, but I never go to the dog part. This was very helpful tho!

Great information! Yet is there any way to unbind the command?

If I remember correctly I just copied and pasted the code thing from "The Binds" into the console... I think it was a bug or something.

I bound the "press button" event to keyboard keys via console, and then just used the keyboard keys to "press" the buttons, so I didn't have to run around between them.

did you actually bind the buttons via console or just press one and two without doing console stuff
