Introduction
This guide is nothing more or less than a list of all Alchemy effects and the ingredients that bestow them.
You will find in this guide every possible ingredient you can use to make a potion, and every ingredient that bestows a stronger or weaker effect.
You will not find locations, prices, or specific recipes.
I recommend https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Ingredients to find much of those details.

Okay then, let's begin!
Restoration Effects
Let's be honest, the biggest thing you want to brew is a potion that makes you not die. Guess who gets bumped to the top of the list.

Fortify Attribute Effects
Fortify Effects increase your current and maximum statistics for a time, but when they expire you'll lose the amount from your current health/magicka/stamina. It will never kill you, but losing a bunch of health in the middle of battle is always bad.
Put it another way: if you are 50 points below your maximum before the Fortify effect, you will still be 50 points below when the Fortify effect has increased the maximum. And when it ends, you'll still be 50 points below the lowered maximum (unless you've been healed in the meantime).

what about fortify alchemy
Cat_Malkin Sep 18, 2014 @ 1:36pm
Thanks - I forgot about the shift + tab - steam overlay. I'm still a newbie. The book is good for those who really like the immersion thing. But it is organized by ingredient, not by the potion. Your list is easier, except for the tertiary effects of combos - the Alchemist's Companion does show that. I like your layout better though. Thanks for a great guide
Ryvaken Tadrya  [author] Sep 18, 2014 @ 1:06am
You can access guides through the Steam overlay, which is a bit easier than picking up a book, in my opinion. Especially since you can call up the overlay while using an alchemy table.
Cat_Malkin Sep 17, 2014 @ 7:53pm
This is a very good guide. there is also a populat mod that includes an in-game book called I thin the alchemist's companion - it lists all ingredients and their effects, that you can read in game. It is at the Alchemis't hut between helgen and Ivastead on teh way to Riften, I like the way your list is organized better, but that book can be acccessed within the game.
