HMS Warspite (03)

Description
HMS Warspite (03)

"Belli dura despicio!"

Warspite, a Queen Elizabeth-class battleship built for the Royal Navy and completed in 1915. Known affectionately as the Grand Old Lady, she has earned the distinction of having the most battle honours awarded to any ship in the Royal Navy.

Warspite would have a long and distinguished career spanning almost three decades. Her first major action was in Jutland in 1916, where she would sustain serious damage but help draw fire away from nearby British cruisers. In the interwar period, she would alternate between the Atlantic and Mediterranean Fleets, receiving a substantial modernisation between 1934-1937.

Starting in World War 2 serving in the Mediterranean Fleet, she would return to the Home Fleet where she would first have her major action in the Second Battle of Narvik. She would go on to serve with distinction in several battles throughout the war, such as in Calabria, where she would score one of the longest range gunnery hits in naval history; Cape Matapan; the defence of Crete; the Indian Ocean; the invasion of Sicily; and the landings in Salerno, where she would get crippled and badly damaged by a German Fritz X guided bomb. Repaired just in time for D-Day, she would provide fire support on the Normandy landings; and see her last action bombarding Walcheren Island.

She would be decommissioned shortly afterwards. Despite several proposals to retain her as a museum ship, she would be sold for scrapping in 1947, and on her way to the breakers would break free from her tugs in a storm and run aground on Prussia Cove, remaining defiant till the end.

This is my attempt at recreating her as faithfully as possible. Built off a basic Queen Elizabeth base, it ended up being slightly larger than her real-life counterpart, but visually it should look near-accurate. I mostly based my interpretation off what she would've looked like at the early parts of the war. Once official mod support drops in the next update, I'll add in accurate weapons for her, such as the quadruple 40mm pom-poms and the dual-purpose 102mm guns.

Thanks, and I hope you enjoy this ship!
