Introduction and Overview
Setting up a terraria server may be complicated, but, I'll show you it actually isn't! Terraria is a nice game, lots of stuff to do, and with time, you'll feel a little lonely. If you got friends, your terraria experience will boost up!
Setting up a LAN Server without Hamachi!
A terraria server is really easy to set up. In this guide, I'll explain to you, with images, how setup a quick and easy one.

1. In order to setup a LAN server, that is, to play in your own network, you probably won't need any other software other than terraria.

2. To open the terraria server, simply go to your Steam terraria directory. By defaul, it's located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Terraria.

3. Simply open your Windows Explorer and head to that folder. If you got it right, the image above will be exactily like yours. After that, open the .exe file called ''TerrariaServer''

The .exe file is highlighted in yellow. Double click it and this should appear:

4. Ports and IPs are what seem to be the most complicated part, but actually they're not. The default port is 7777, so leave it untouched. But, to find out your IP, it's best to open the start menu, and type CMD, or simply run the Prompt bar. Doing that correctly, this should appear:

5. Finding out what your IP is
This is the most technological-looking part of the guide, it's actually very easy, and you'll fell like a hacker doing that.

(!) Type in ''ipconfig'' without the quotes. Then this should appear:

(I hid my IP because you can find out someone's adress with the IP :c)

Your IP is the IPV4 Adress (Endereço IPV4)

FINAL STEP
When you're hosting the server, just give the IP you found and they'll proceed to join your game. Have fun! :D

Troubleshooting

So here are some potential causes of lag issues in Terraria servers

1. One is connection bandwidth - you need enough UPLOAD bandwidth to handle all connection to your server. I generally use 1Mbps when hosting 5-7 players. Obviously if you're only hosting for 1 or 2 people you'll need less than this, more for more players.

2. Another huge cause of lag is playing and hosting over Wi-Fi. Wireless adds a huge amount of latency to a connection, as much as 100ms or more, which causes noticeable lag. Even if you have a wireless connection with high bandwidth, the latency will kill gaming performance.

By way of example, I get less than 10ms latency(ping) when playing over wired LAN. Switching to wireless sends my latencies to over 100ms and renders multiplayer almost unplayable. - even though the server is in the same building. I highly recommend that you switch to ethernet if you're not already using it. Trying to host over wireless is a joke imo.

3. Finally, if you're playing on the same computer that you host from, running both Terraria and TerrariaServer could be too much for your CPU. If this is the case you might try going into task manager and setting the priority of Terraria to low and TerrariaServer to high. Also try reducing graphics quality, turning off backgrounds and colored lighting. Or set up a dedicated server machine.

@7mirror7

You have terraria installed and want to re-install it?

Right click terraria in your library, and one of the last options is Delete Local Content or something like that.
