How to Slidehop on PC
By Juan Carlos Bodoque and 1 collaborators
You may have played Attrition and seen others blasting through the whole map before, and have absolutely no idea how to replicate that movement, but this guide was meant for you, new Pilot, that wants to make the most use out of movement in this beautiful engine that is the Source engine.

Introduction

Slide Hopping on Titanfall is the equivalent of Bunny Hoping, coming from others games such as Counter Strike or derivates of the Source Engine.
In case you don't know, Titanfall runs on a heavily modified version of the Source Engine, so the movement physics are more or less the same from these games.

Slide Hopping is nothing less than mantaining the extra speed and momentum you gain from sliding, making you travel on ground-level at speeds not achievable otherwise. This guide was made with the intention of providing a quick explanation on how to start slide hopping for the wave of newcomers with the Steam release.
1. Controls

For the PC Version of the game, in order to properly Slidehop, you will need to make a new binding in the game options:

For default, Titanfall will bind your "Ctrl" key to "Toggle Crouch", and in order to properly Slidehop, we will be needing the simple "Crouch" command to be bound to any key. In my example, I use one my side mouse buttons for convenience, since this particular key will need to be spammable, so choose anything that feels comfortable for you. Also, this binding can also simply be your "Ctrl" key, you just need to overwrite the existing one.

Another thing that I recommend is turning off auto-sprint if you have it on.

I would like to emphasize that this step (auto-sprint) is definitely not necessary, although very recommended for you to stay in control of your character.
2. The Basics

Now that you have everything setup, you can start practicing your Slidehop.
The whole process of Slidehop consists on simply 2 commands: Crouch and jump.
Sounds simple right? All you need to do to start building speed is sliding after sprinting, and keep jumping after landing WHILE holding the crouch button.
Here is an attempt at a visual representation for better understanding:

In order to keep your speed, you need to jump immediately after you land. One good way to tell when you land, is paying close attention to your gun's viewmodel, there should be a clear indicator for landing.

This mechanic requires some practice, which can be done on the Gauntlet Training map, and is also very recommendable since it also tracks your speed, to know you are doing it right.
3. Strafing

If you have managed to do everything correctly until now, and have noticed that you are moving at exponentially higher speeds on ground level, you may probably realize that there is only one problem with this mechanic: You cannot seem to change the direction of movement very well.

In this section, we will discuss about air strafing, which is very important for fully mastering the Slidehop. If you have played other games running on the Source Engine you may probably already be familiar with this, one great example of air strafing would be the Surf maps from Counter Strike.

Air strafing also has a lot to do with these old physics classes we took, considering vectors and uniform movement are also parts of many games' engines. Take a look at this image:

Let's consider that the black arrow represents the direction which your character's movement is going towards to, and the red arrow is both camera position + key press. In order to fully perform a circular movement, you will need to keep both of these vectors in mind.

Here we have another great illustrated example:

Notice how the red arrow, which is both camera position + directional key binds will always influence the final movement.

Trying to simplify it a little, when you start with a Slidehop, your character's movement becomes independent of any of your directional key presses, meaning you can keep hopping without pressing any of these buttons.
However, in order to fully adjust your movement to the direction you want, you will need to think as the red arrow in the previous representations and fine-tune your movement accordingly.
For a visual representation, I recommend one of the Internet's classics:

Try focusing on phoon's (the player on the video) camera movement and how it perfectly corresponds to his movement in order to air strafe correctly.

Here I'll recommend some more focused videos on what I tried to convey, and also the source for the images I used before.

TLDR: you can "hop" while sliding, but start sliding again before you hit the ground. Do it until you learn it!

I disagree just started using this and find setting my side button to hold and setting Ctrl to toggle works just fine if you haven't tried this maybe you should

people who use a key-bind do to slide hopping are weird
you just like do slide-hopping manually and it just kinda works

for some reason none of these guides worked for me, i learned how to slidehop by myself, the only thing that wasnt working for me was that "hold crouch" i just crouch, jump and then click crouch again mid air, jump again and repeat
