Warning: Check the SHA-256 hash of the downloaded executable for your own safety before running it, as there is no guarantee that these hyperlinks will stay as they are over time.
If you have no tool to check file hashes then go to virustotal.com and upload the executable. On the details page of virustotal it'll show you the SHA-256 hash of the executable.
Prepare before apply
A change to the windows registry has to be made before being able to run the patch, due to a missing registry value in the Steam release of the game.
These changes are tested on Windows 10, but will most likely work on Windows 7 too.

Please check if you're running a 32-bit or 64-bit edition of Windows.
How to check: Open dxdiag (Windows key + R -> write dxdiag -> click ok) and check the text behind 'Operating System:'.

Open notepad (Windows key + R -> write notepad -> click ok) and copy the text inside the block below that matches your Windows edition.

64-bit Windows:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Ellipse Studios\Submarine Titans\Version] "Version"=dword:01000000

32-bit Windows:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ellipse Studios\Submarine Titans\Version] "Version"=dword:01000000

Navigate to notepads menubar and click on File. Click in the menu on Save As and navigate to desktop in the opened dialog.
Replace the file name with subtitanspatchfix.reg, change Save as type to All Files (*.*) and click on Save. Navigate to your desktop and double click subtitanspatchfix.reg to apply the changes.

You will now be able to run the Submarine Titans patch ( st1_mj0to0_1_usa.exe ).
Other
I've released an unofficial patch for Submarine Titans which fixes common issues and provides widescreen and high dpi support.

Is file planet safe to download from? Seems pretty sketchy

I had this error, too, and then remembered that the requirements clearly state you need to run the game at least once. That fixed it for me.
Thanks for the guide!

Also try this github file that I used and read the readme for instruction.

I am using my Steam Deck with dual booted on Windows 11. I can start the game in Steam and the game will prompt that I need to update to 1.1 which I don't know why, what matters is I'm playing it atm.

If anyone is still having internal error after applying the 1.1 patch try going into the ST config located where Steam installed the game and change the in game resolution settings under configuration tab to a different one. Mines was on 800x600 and I changed it to 1280x1024 and the game launched for me. Hope this helps.

Start the game in Windows XP 3 troubleshoot mode. For me it worked smooth like a charm. No patch needed. It does add back the loading screens though...but stable.😉

Thanks for this article but the "st1_mj0to0_1_usa.exe" patch file say that my submarine version is a incorrect version (0.0), i have created the reg file as you say this method work fine on my win10.

If i launch submarine titans after steam fresh installation, the game is in 0.0 version not 1.0, i can't apply the patch, maybe it's better to make a zip file of the files modified after the patch, i think it's the executable file and missions files.
