How to forcefully enable Steam Overlay/Steam Input to Burnout Paradise Remastered (Steam Version)

Can't get your Xbox Controller, Dualshock 4, Nintendo Switch Pro Controller or Steam Controller to work? This guide should help you on getting Steam Controller Configurator, known as Steam Input, to work on Burnout Paradise Remastered (Steam Version).

Introduction

So, you seen some guides/tutorials on how to get your Controller working on Burnout Paradise Remastered (Steam Version)? such as Xbox one controller fix which just disables Steam Input, but what if there's a way to get it working?

Based on my research and testing, the main culprit is the Origin's In-Game Overlay system, which blocks Steam Overlay completely.

this may not be a problem for most people, but since Burnout is a Racing game where a Controller (or a Racing Wheel) is needed. this is a problem for Dualshock 4, Nintendo Switch controllers and Steam Controller folks. which means, they have to use an Input Wrapper as a workaround.

However, I managed to force Steam Overlay to run Burnout Paradise Remastered (Steam Version).

Here's three different methods (two of them is tested myself) on forcing Steam Overlay/Steam Input to Burnout Paradise Remastered. and this method can also work on EA Games on Steam that uses Origin Application as a way to launch a game. (but I don't have those games to test them)

Method 1: Turning off Origin In Game [Overlay]

This is my preferred method, but it requires you to launch Origin application.

Step 1: go to [Application Settings] (it's in [Origin]) > Origin In-Game > and disable [Enable Origin In-game]




Step 2: go to [My Game Library] and find Burnout Paradise Remastered, make sure it's the one that has the Steam logo on the Box Art.



Step 3: go to Games Properties, which is usually Right Mouse Click or the Settings Icon on the right side of the Big Play Button inside [Game Details].



Step 4: disable [Enable Origin In Game for Burnout™ Paradise Remastered]



While the Origin Overlay will still be shown, you should be able to see Steam Overlay Notification pop-up when you bootup the game.

The downside is, based on my testing, if you launch Burnout Paradise Remastered on Desktop, it will launch Steam Desktop Overlay regardless if you set Big Picture Overlay on or off.

If you have configured your Controller via Steam Controller Configurator before, you may have to launch [Burnout Paradise Remastered] inside Big Picture Mode.

Method 2: Using OriginSteamOverlayLauncher

OriginSteamOverlayLauncher, OSOL is a executable wrapper for Steam to make third-party launchers more convenient to use with a Steam Controller, created by WombatFromHell.

while that's usually the route you would go for, we're working with the Steam version of Burnout Paradise, so we need to follow this guide [github.com]:

• Right click the game in the Steam library window - click "Create Desktop Shortcut"
  
• Right click the newly created game desktop shortcut (on your desktop) - click "Properties"
  
• Copy the contents of the "URL" field in the game shortcut. If you wish to use game-specific arguments you can do that in a later step
  
• Open your OSOL INI in the game directory - if this doesn't exist yet then run OSOL once within the game directory following the normal procedure
  
• Paste the contents of the "URL" field that you copied in step 3 into the LauncherURI option so that it looks something like: LauncherURI=steam://rungameid/123456
  
• If the game in question does not have a third-party launcher make sure to set SkipLauncher=True
  
• Enter/Paste the game commandline arguments you want Steam to use when launching your game into the GameArgs OSOL INI option, like: GameArgs=-arg0 -arg1 -foo_bar
  
• Add the OSOL executable as a non-Steam game and run it as normal

But you can skip the Desktop Shortcut process, here's a LauncherURL: steam://rungameid/1238080

The Downside is that you have to add OSOL.exe as a non-Steam Game, but the Upside is that you can use pre-Steam release Community Configurations or your previously made Config as long as you name the [Game Title].

Method 3: Using GloSC

Global SteamController, more commonly known as GloSC is a tool for using the SteamController as systemwide XInput controller alongside a global overlay.

You don't need to to any of it. Just delete original xinput files from burnout intall directory , make sure your xbox wireless controller is synced/connected to windows. Then re-launch BP and it will work. Do it everytime I reinstall BP or install it on a new computer

Origin is dead, osol launches ea launcher while steam says its bpr running. Glosc is dead. Dissapointment.

this guide is for Burnout Paradise Remastered (and any EA Games that uses Origin/EA Play Launcher). I don't have the original PC Version of Burnout Paradise, but if it's anything like older EA Games pre-Origins, you shouldn't have any problem with Steam Input Gamepad Emulation.

Can confirm, my X-Input, 8BitDo SN30 Pro controller worked just fine both wired and Bluetooth in the old version when I still had it

I had this issue on a laptop with both integrated and dedicated graphics, and the problem was that the program was defaulting to the integrated graphics. The way I fixed this was by going into the NVIDIA Control Panel and doing the following steps:

Go to "Manage 3D Settings"

Go to "Program Settings"

Select the program (I had to click "Add" to find it)

Under "Select the preferred graphics processor for this program", you will see "Use global setting (Auto-select: Integrated)". Change this to "High-performance NVIDIA processor".

Once I did these steps, there were no issues at all for me. I hope that helps you!

Quick question does this work with the original burnout paradise as well, i didn’t see to much of a need to upgrade to remastered but if it has better controller steering I might since I never got it to work on the original
