How to make custom conversations with the demons

In this guide, I'll show you how to make custom conversations with the demons. This guide really applies to anything on the game that includes text, so you can also change the text on buttons, e.g. "NEW GAME" etc.

Get a program to open .json files

You need a program that is able to view and edit .json files. On Windows, Notepad is able to do that. However, I use Notepad++[notepad-plus-plus.org] to view, edit, and create .json files, but I bet you'll survive with Notepad too.

Find the files

The direct route to the folder is

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Helltaker\local

You can also access the folder directly from the Steam by right-clicking the game, Manage > Browse local files:














And from there, open the folder "local". You should have these files:

Edit the files

Now, you can choose a file to edit. Here's what the exact files are used for:

These files include the text that gets monitored into the game directly from the file. You can edit literally anything inside.

Some notes:

• Deleting a file will softlock the game as soon as you reach the dialogue of the deleted file
  
• Adding any extra lines doesn't have any effect in-game (not any extra dialogs)
  
• The game doesn't support all Unicode characters
  
• Remember to save the files as soon as you're done editing them
  
• In case you want all the files to return to their original state and get back the files you've deleted, in Steam right-click Helltaker > Properties > Local files > Verify integrity of game files

This could be benefited to localize the game in your native language. Or for the memes. Whatever that comes to your mind.
