Whips | Terraria 1.4

New type of weapon for summoner class, added in update 1.4, allows you to defend from enemies.
In this guide I will review all whips added in update 1.4.
Note: This is a translation of my Russian guide into English. If you find grammatical errors, feel free to write about it in the comments.

Introduction

8 whips were added to the game, each of which has its own characteristics, as well as similarities. The main feature of whips is the ability to put a label for their minions. Enemies with this tag will be a priority for your minions.
Also, enemies with a label will receive additional damage from your minions. The effect lasts 4 seconds, but not every whip has this effect. And if the enemy is immune to all debuffs, there will be no additional damage.

Like any other weapon in the game, whips have modifiers. Only here there is a feature:
modifiers that increase the attack speed reduce the radius of the attack itself. If you want to get the largest attack radius, then you need the Sluggish modifier, if you need damage, the Ruthless modifier will suit you, the Bulky modifier is something in between the previous two.
And also, any armor and accessories that increase the speed of attack in melee will also suit whips. And in the end, all whips don't have auto-attacks, so Titan Glove or its derivatives will help you not break the mouse.

Pre-Hardmode

Leather Whip

And here, most likely, is your first whip, available almost at the very beginning of the game. You can buy it from the new NPC Zoologist . It will be available for purchase when you open 15% (80 cells) of the bestiary. The price of the whip is 15 .

Leather Whip in action:

Snapthorn

The second and last whip available to Pre-Hardmode. This whip has a chance to inflict Poisoned debuff on the enemy, and when hit by the enemy, the character gets a buff Jungle's Fury, which increases your attack speed for 2 seconds.

Hardmode

Firecracker

The first Hardmode whip that will be available to you. Drops from the Wall of Flesh with a 12.5% chance in the classic world and a 25% chance in Expert or Master mode. Like all whips, it forces the minions to focus on the last enemy they touch. Also inflicts a debuff On Fire! on the enemy. Unlike other whips, it does not have additional damage. Instead, each minion hit a marked enemy with a debuff On fire! causes a small explosion that deals three times more damage from a normal minion attack.

Firecracker in action

Cool Whip

After the Firecracker you can get Cool Whip. Made on mithril or orichalcum anvils using 8, 8 and 1. An Ice core falls from an Ice Golem in a Snow biome during a Snow storm. Just like the previous whip, it has no additional damage. Instead, the whip releases a snowflake that lasts for 4 seconds and deals 10 points of damage on contact with the enemy. The whip releases only 1 snowflake, the snowflake timer resets when you hit it again, and the snowflake ignores the enemy's armor.

Cool Whip in action

Durendal

Durendal is a whip that is made on mithril or orichalcum anvils. It is created from 12 . Just like the first whips, it doesn't have any special features, just gives extra damage, and also gives the Durendal Blessing buff , which increases the attack speed.

Dark Harvest

Dark Harvest falls from the Pumpking . Chance of falling from 1.79% to 14.29% depending on the wave of the Pumpkin moon. When attacking, the whip imposes an aura of dark energy on the enemy. And every time a minion attacks an enemy, the dark energy aura deals 10 points of damage to nearby enemies, but the dark energy owner does not take any damage. This damage ignores the enemy's armor. Also imposes a buff on the character Harvest Time , which increases the attack speed.

Morning Star

Morning Star has the biggest damage out of all the whips. Falls in post-Plantera Dungeon with a 0.5% chance of Blue , Rusty , and Hell armor bones. Increases the minions crit chance by 5%.

Kaleidoscope

Kaleidoscope is the best whip in the game. Is a post-Plantera whip and drops from the Empress of Light with a 25% chance. Kaleidoscope increases your minions crit chance by 10%.
