Introduction
This guide is intended for completionists and contains spoilers. Please leave a comment if I am missing any important information. I only completed the walkthrough for Roche's path. If you need help with the Iorveth path then I recommend checking out the Quests[witcher.fandom.com] wiki page.
Gameplay Tips
You can level up skills by meditating (hold CTRL). You must invest 6 points into the Training tree before other trees.
  • Quen and Yrden are extremely helpful for survivability. Make sure to use them on difficult fights.
  • Backstab enemies. It makes a huge difference, especially if you get the Assassin perk in the prologue.
  • Red Haze bombs and Dancing Star bombs are extremely helpful against groups of enemies. They're almost required for certain fights.
  • Kayran and Draug Trophies have hidden damage bonuses.
  • Some enemies including ghosts will dodge heavy attacks.
  • Use the medallion (Z key) everywhere. It highlights corpses, containers, plants, breakable walls, barrels, and loot.
  • The wolf icon on the top left will glow when you are near a Place of Power. Use the medallion on these to get a buff.
  • Snare traps can be found all over Chapter 1 and can be reused an unlimited number of times. There's a couple fights these are useful, so make sure to pick them up after disarming them.

Attributes[witcher.fandom.com]
Press ENTER while in the skill tree menu to see extra character information. This shows you stats such as health regeneration during combat, hidden perks, and monster knowledge.

Mutagens[witcher.fandom.com]
Mutagens can be equipped in your skill tree to give passive bonuses. They cannot be removed once they are equipped. Mutagen slots only exist on the last few skills in each quadrant of the tree. See the Skills[witcher.fandom.com] for a list of skills that have mutagen slots.

Impregnation is an alchemy skill that greatly increases the effects of mutagens (around double). It only gives a bonus to mutagens that are equipped after leveling it. This means that you should get Impregnation 2 before equipping any Mutagens.

Respecing deletes your mutagens unless you reacquire the skills that had them. Impregnation bonuses are kept even after respecing. This means that you don't need Impregnation after respecing.

Best Mutagens
Power mutagens are the best choice for a sword based build. The easiest way to obtain mutagens is with the Side Effect 2 skill. Craft a few potions/bombs individually and reload the game until you get Greater mutagens. Madness[witcher.fandom.com] mutagens are the best choice for a magic build. The best way to obtain them is by killing Harpies in Chapter 2.

Build
I recommend a Swordsmanship build for your first playthrough. Level 35 is the maximum level.

Build before respec (optional build for min-maxing mutagens, level Alchemy last)
Build after respec (endgame build, ignore the build above if you don't want to respec)

Survivability is far more important than damage in this game. Position, Riposte and Footwork are all required skills for survivability. Enhanced Quen is useful because it knocks back enemies.

Crash Fix
This game autosaves often and will begin crashing as soon as you have too many save files. Disabling cloud saves does not seem to prevent this issue. The only way to fix this is by deleting your saves. Deleting the saves individually takes a long time, so my recommendation is to search for tools or methods to manage the steam cloud saves. The method I used no longer works, so I have deleted it from the guide.
Prologue
By the King's Will[witcher.fandom.com]
You start in a tent with Triss and are told to speak to King Foltest. Outside of the tent is a group of men who will ask your opinion on an talisman. You have 3 choices:
  1. It is cursed. (*)
This results in him offering you the talisman and surviving the battle.
  2. It is magic but you don't know what it does.
This results in him surviving the battle.
  3. It will help him.
This results in him dying in battle.
You can also obtain this talisman at the end of the prologue. Obtaining the talisman starts Melitele Heart[witcher.fandom.com]. If Newboy survives the battle then he will give you a book of knowledge on dragons.
Experienced: 10% bonus experience
Earned by destroying 10 training dummies. Note that there are only 5 dummies here. You can destroy the rest in Chapter 1 or later.
Sapper: 50% chance to avoid trap/bomb damage
Earned by interrupting Geralt 5 times while disarming a trap.
Pyromaniac: 20% increased chance to incinerate
Earned by walking into a campfire 5 times.
Once you reach Foltest he will give you a spyglass. Aim the spyglass at the two men on the wall for the achievement. See this image for help. Then follow Foltest until you reach the top of a siege tower.
Eagle Eye Hit Count Etchverry using the ballista.

At the Fore[witcher.fandom.com]
Exit the siege tower and fight your way to Aryan Valette. Soon your path will be blocked by some archers in a tower which starts Barricade[witcher.fandom.com]. Fall down to the courtyard and fire a ballista to clear the path. Then search nearby for this perk:
Assassin: 25% bonus damage when attacking from behind
Earned by approaching the dead Assassin's Creed look-alike by the haystack near the ballista.
Now climb back up to the ramparts and follow Foltest until you reach Aryan La Valette. You are given 3 dialogue choices.
  1. Drop your weapon, fool. (*)
    This spares Aryans life.
  2. Let's settle this between us. (*)
This results in a duel with Aryan.
  3. As you wish.
You must kill Aryan and his men.
Note: This choice will affect affect the potential attributes you can earn later in the game. Strong Back is highly recommended.
Strong Back: +50 inventory capacity
Earned by saving Aryan and freeing him near the end of the Prologue.
Executioner: 1% chance to instantly kill enemies
Earned by killing Aryan along with 2 other important characters at the end of Chapter 2.

To the Temple![witcher.fandom.com]
Search for the secret entrance to the monastery and open the gate for the king's men.

Head down the hill and you will witness a woman being shot in the back by a soldier. If you enter the house that she ran out of you can convince the soldiers to spare the rest of the villagers. Successfully performing any of the choices will start Woe to the Vanquished[witcher.fandom.com] and level up the respective attribute (Axii, persuasion, or intimidation). Note that each attribute has a maximum of 3 levels. There is a random chance of failing, so you may want to reload if that happens.
Conjuror: +3 sign damage
Earned by successfully using Axii during conversations.
Axii Sign Hex: increases Axii success chance during conversations (3 levels)
Earned by successfully using Axii during conversations.
Intimidate: increases intimidation success chance (3 levels)
Earned by successfully using intimidate during conversations.
Persuasion: increases persuasion success chance (3 levels)
Earned by successfully using persuasion during conversations.
Intimidator Intimidate someone.
Further down the hill you can fight a commander to prevent him from burning villagers alive. Saving both groups of civilians and refusing both rewards will earn you a larger reward near the beginning of Chapter 1.

After entering the alley at the bottom of the hill some soldiers block your path with a cart. Backtrack to where the large crowd was at the bottom of the stairs. Break the nearby wall with Aard and enter a well. Inside the sewers you can use the medallion to highlight another breakable wall. Behind this wall is a Temerian steel sword. Once you make it out of the sewers you must kill some guards and open the gate.

Trial by Fire[witcher.fandom.com]
Fight your way to the gate and hide under the structures to avoid the dragon's fire. Once you reach the temple you will start Blood of His Blood[witcher.fandom.com]. Upon entering the temple the priests will berate you. You can respond to them how you wish. Eventually you will exit the temple and be chased by the dragon again. Run until you make it to the solar.

You begin in a prison cell. Once you escape you will need to find your way to Aryan or Louisa. Aryan will be the prisoner if you spared him. It is your choice to sneak or fight the guards, but you will get more loot and experience for fighting. After climbing some stairs you will reach an intersection. Straight ahead is a locked door, to the right is a set of stairs, and to the left are some prisoners in cells. There are two paths:
  1. Head left past the prisoners until you reach Aryan or Louisa.
  2. Head straight through the locked door and fall down the trap door. This path is harder because you must fight the hangman.
After saving the prisoner you will need to clear out the guards upstairs before escaping. Once the guards are dead you will get a quest update to go back and save Aryan or Louisa. You can choose to save them or leave them behind.
Strong Back: +50 inventory capacity
Earned by saving Aryan.
After leaving the dungeon you will be approached by Newboy if he survived who will help you by leading some guards away. If he did not survive his corpse can be found near the docks. You can kill him or loot his corpse for a talisman that starts Melitele's Heart[witcher.fandom.com].
The Fugitive Finish the Prologue.
Chapter 1
A Rough Landing[witcher.fandom.com]
You start on a boat with Roche and Triss. Follow them until you are ambushed by some elves. Triss will cast a protective bubble but uses up her energy in doing so. Defend Roche as he carries Triss along the path.

Note: If you are overburdened then you can drop items and pick them up later. Dropped items only disappear if you die or reload the game.
Cover: 10% damage reduction
Earned by staying inside Triss' bubble until you reach Flotsam. Can also be earned later.

Make your way into town until you see your friends at the gallows. This starts By the Gods - Stringing Up Sods[witcher.fandom.com]. Approach the gallows in the center of town and stop your friends from being hung. Eventually Bernard Loredo[witcher.fandom.com] will free them.

Flotsam
Take this time to grab the side quests and store your items in the lower level of the inn. See the side quests sections for full details. Most side quests can be gathered from the notice board or inside of the inn. You can complete almost all of the quests before continuing the main story.

NOTE: Make sure to buy a Diagram: Diamond Armor Reinforcements[witcher.fandom.com] from Sendler in Lobinden during this Chapter. It's arguably the best armor enhancement in the game and it can only obtained from him.

A
Three bandits will be waiting for you in town.
B
If you saved the villagers in Woe to the Vanquished[witcher.fandom.com] you will rewarded near a gate in town.
C
One of Thaler's agents named Brady will give you a Dragon's Dream diagram.
D
Gaspar and Farid will ask Geralt to use a "substance" (Critical Effects mutagen) and write a journal of the long term effects.
E
There are 6 training dummies around the city which will respawn after a few days.
Experienced: 10% bonus experience
Earned by destroying 10 training dummies.

Indecent Proposal[witcher.fandom.com]
Head to Loredo's residence at night. Roche will follow you in and ask you to dismantle the nearby ballista.

The Ballista[witcher.fandom.com]
Walk near the ballista at the start and Roche will request that you dismantle it. Speak to Margarita and say "I wanted to surprise my friend." You have 2 options:
1. Bribe her. (50 orens)
2. Humiliate Myron and Alphonse by beating them at arm wrestling.
You can then loot the Ballista Mechanism Fragment after she distracts the guard.

Speak to Roche and follow him down the stairs. A man will then approach you and inform you of a Kayran trap component Iron Frame[witcher.fandom.com]) which you can only obtain during this quest. Roche will then distract the closest guard. You will need to sneak by and knock out the other guards. Use your medallion to detect buckets, especially around corners. Touching a bucket will draw the guards attention and cause you to miss out on two achievements. Search for the Kayran trap part (ironframe) and listen to the conversation in the window before returning to Roche.
Cover: 10% damage reduction
Earned by knocking out the first two guards.
Man of the Shadows Sneak through Loredo's garden undetected and find the component of the kayran trap.

The Kayran[witcher.fandom.com]
After speaking with Triss, Zoltan, and Dandelion in the inn you will exit to find the Kayran attacking a man at the docks. Síle will intervene and the Kayran will flee. Louis Merse will then offer you a contract to kill the beast and Síle will tell you to speak with Cedric to learn more about the Kayran.

Note: You can speak to Keith on the docks in order to level up a dialogue attribute.

The Kayran: A Matter of Price[witcher.fandom.com]
Speak to the merchant in town and determine the price for killing the Kayran.
Haggling: 20% discount from shop
Earned by successfully using Axii on a merchant and doubling the reward for killing the Kayran.

Once you leave town Triss will lead you to Cedric in Lobinden. Cedric will tell you to search the shipwreck to the north to learn more about the Kayran. Make sure to buy the Diagram: Kayran trap[witcher.fandom.com] from Cedric before meeting Triss. After fighting some drowners near the shipwreck you can analyze the ooze nearby. Triss will tell you the Kayran is venomous and recommends that you craft a Mongoose potion[witcher.fandom.com] to protect yourself. Investigate the wreck to start Mystic River[witcher.fandom.com] before leaving.

Optional: The Kayran: Ostmurk[witcher.fandom.com]
Speak to Cedric and he will tell you that you can find ostmurk in a cave behind a waterfall. Craft this potion before battling the Kayran.
Strong Stomach: 10% reduced chance of being poisoned
Earned by drinking the Mongoose potion.
Great Potion! Brew the Mongoose potion.
Taster Drink a potion.

Speak to Síle in at the inn to travel to the Kayran. Drink the Mongoose potion before heading down to the shore.
Artful Dodger Cut off a tentacle using the kayran trap.
Oh My God! You Killed The Kayran! You Bastards! Kill the kayran.
Backbone Craft a suit of armor from elements of the kayran's carapace.
Note: I was able to loot the Kayran twice after defeating it. However, I was only able to loot it once after loading an autosave.

Strategy: Always keep Quen up during this fight. Place the Kayran trap or cast Yrden on the sides of the arena. Then bait the tentacles to attack the traps before chopping them. After 3 tentacles are destroyed you will have a quicktime event. Finally you need to ascend the rubble on the left side before a cutscene plays.
Chapter 1
The Assassins of Kings[witcher.fandom.com]
After turning in the Kayran quest Triss will speak with you. Follow her towards the prison boat. After speaking to the prisoner you will start The Rose of Remembrance[witcher.fandom.com]. Now you need to find the rose. You have two choices:
  1. Go alone
If you need help finding the garden you can speak to Cedric. Once you reach the garden you can take the rose.
  2. Go with Triss (*)
Going with Triss will gives you the option to romance her or gain an attribute. Once you reach the garden you can take the rose. Your choice in giving it to Triss does not matter. Soon some bandits will show up and will be provoked into attacking. After the fight the floor will collapse and you can choose to romance Triss in the bath house or reject her to gain an attribute.
Resistance to Magic: 20% more resistances to magic
Earned by rejecting Triss in the Elven Bath and casting Aard to open the way out during The Rose of Remembrance.

Speak to Vernon Roche after the quest completes and then Zoltan in the inn. Zoltan will then escort you into the forest to meet some Scoia'tael. After speaking with them you must head deeper in the forest. You will be forced to fight an Arach before being confronted by Iorveth. WARNING! Do not disrespect or threaten him or you will be killed and miss out on the Arach loot. Tell him about the elven prisoner on the barge and Letho. Do not follow Iorveth immediately or you will miss out on the loot.

Loot the Sword of Kaer Morhen[witcher.fandom.com] and prepare for the fight with Letho. Activate the places of power in the forest and use potions/oils before approaching Ioveth at the garden. Iorveth will agree to act as a hostage and let you take him to Letho. At the end of the conversation you will have a timed decision.

Note: This decision ultimately does not matter. Your allegiance can be chosen later.
  1. Help Iorveth
Give your sword to Iorveth. This results in a riot among the non-humans in the city and the Scoia'tael will become friendly.
  2. Help Vernon Roche
Punch Iorveth so that he can be taken prisoner by Vernon Roche and Bernard Loredo. This results in a holiday in Flotsam.

After some cutscenes you will fight Letho.

Strategy: The fight ends soon after Letho reaches half health. Keep Quen up as much as possible and keep your distance. Letho is invulnerable while he has his own Quen up. Cast Yrden and bait him into it to stun him. Then walk behind him and backstab him for maximum damage.

Where is Triss Merigold?[witcher.fandom.com]
After you defeat Letho you will be approached by Roche or Iorveth. Return to town and speak with Dandelion at the inn then follow him to Síle's room. After you investigate the room you must speak with the elven woman next door. This triggers a flashback with Triss. If you sided with Roche you can optionally head to the brothel in the bottom of the inn to complete the quest Margot's Disappearance[witcher.fandom.com]. Now return outside and follow the blood trail into the forest until you find Cedric. You can use a Cat potion to make following the trail of blood easier. Dandelion and Zoltan will then approach you and give you two quests.
1. At a Crossroads: Vernon Roche[witcher.fandom.com]
2. At a Crossroads: Scoia'tael[witcher.fandom.com]

WARNING! You can only complete one of these quests and this choice will affect the rest of the game. This guide currently only supports the Vernon Roche path.

Roche Path
Death to the Traitor![witcher.fandom.com]
Speak with Vernon Roche in Flotsam and listen to the attack plan for Bernard Loredo's residence. You have 2 options:
  1. Follow Roche's plan
Wait until night and then climb the ladder in the non-human district to enter the garden.
  2. Enter using the secret passage
Enter the secret entrance to Loredo's residence in a cave near the west side of town. This is the same cave entered during the Malena side quest. (400 bonus XP)

You can kill the guards or sneak around, but you get more experience for killing them. You can optionally climb the ladder near the residence to speak with Helena. You can also optionally kill Arnolt Malliger in the garden. Inside the residence you will find Bernard's mother whom you must kill. Next you must find a key on the third floor. On the second floor you can interact with a mailbox if you have the Mystic River[witcher.fandom.com] quest. The third floor has sleeping guards and the key. After retrieving the key head upstairs and kill Loredo. After the battle you must protect Ves and Moril. Kill the guards in the stairs and head towards the courtyard until a cutscene plays.
To Aedirn! Complete Chapter 1.

After entering the ruins and looting some some documents in a chest you will be attacked by two wraiths. Travel further into the ruins and speak to Gridley who asks you to find him some medicine. This can be obtained in a room nearby. Give him the medicine and he will tell you to talk to the wandering ghost. The ghost will demand retribution. This leaves you with two options.

Convince Gridley and Rupert to enter the ruins. This results in both of them being killed. You can then loot Gridley's corpse for a silver sword diagram.

Endrega embryo - looted from Endregas or Endrega cocoons.

If you won the she-troll head from Sendler you can give it to the troll for the Hunter's armor diagram, however this will prevent you from obtaining Melitele's Heart unless you kill him. Next return to Chorab for a reward. You will have to persuade him to give the full amount.

If you kill one and then run away before the other dies you can loot its corpse for a Draugir armor fragment. This can be used to craft some of the best body armors in the game. Once the Draugir are dead Dethmold will cast a protective bubble. Follow him and defend him until you reach the encampment.

After reaching the base you will be approached by Zyvik who will give you a tour. You can skip this by telling him you want to speak with the king, but you will miss out on the achievement.
Tourist Tour the camp with Zyvik.

Return to Zyvek afterwards and talk to him about the Visionary and the Relic peddler. Then talk to the peddler about Sabrina's blood curse.

Conspiracy Theory[witcher.fandom.com]

Then go to the brothel outside of the Kaedweni camp and speak to Madame Carole. Ask for a prostitute and give her the square coin. Tell her you want Whistling Wendy. Then tell Wendy that you want her to "open the gates of paradise with her smile." She will open a trap door that you can jump into. Traut will have a short conversation with you before you are attacked. Defeat the soldiers and loot Seltkirk's armor to complete the quest Courage Symbolized[witcher.fandom.com]. Speak to Dandelion about the pamphlet that you found and return to Dethmold for a reward.

The Path to Vision[witcher.fandom.com]
Visit the Visionary to the north of town. Some soldiers will be attack by Endregas in the nearby forest if you completed Lost Lambs. If they survive they will give you money to give to the hermit. Then enter the Visionary's hut after battling some harpies.

He will ask for the money from the soldiers. You have 2 choices:
1. Give him 400 orens.
This ends the quest and he will immediately tell you about Sabrina Glevissig.
2. Become his follower.
He will ask you to perform a ritual. Read the 2 notes in his house before leaving. Head to the nearby forest to the east with Endregas and wait until 20:00 before interacting with the altar. Make sure to loot the Arbitrator steel sword (28-33 damage) in the nearby puddle. Geralt will drink the mixture and have a hallucination before waking up. Pick up the notes on top of the hill before jumping down. Return to the Visionary and tell him about the hen and mushrooms. He will tell you that the Relic peddler has the spear that pierced Sabrina's heart. Return to the peddler and ask about the spear. He will tell you that he lost the spear while gambling and that Iorveth has it in Vergen.

The Blood Curse[witcher.fandom.com]
WARNING! You will be unable to return to the Kaedweni camp for a long time after you enter the mist. Stash most of your items before leaving. I recommend dropping Iron Ore and Timber if you run out of inventory space later on.

Speak to Dethmold at the upper part of the camp for his assistance in traversing the fog to Vergen. Dethmold will give you a protective amulet and Zirael's body armor. Zoltan will approach you when you leave the camp and join you on the journey to Vergen. Follow Zoltan as he leads you out of town into the mist. Avoid fighting the wraiths while in the mist. Use your medallion and follow the floating purple skull until you exit the mist. Then follow Zoltan until you are stopped by some elven guards. Keep following Zoltan until you reach Vergen. Talk to the dwarves at the gate and they will tell you where to find the Dun Banner.

Death Symbolized[witcher.fandom.com]
Climb the stairs near the entrance of Vergen and exit to the north. Keep heading into the forest until you reach a crypt. There are a lot of wraiths in here, so be careful. Avoid breaking any walls and head downstairs. Break the wall in the next room using Aard speak with Ekhart Henessy[witcher.fandom.com] inside.

You have 2 choices:
1. Kill him.
2. Convince him that you are a former member of the Dun Banner. (*)
He will ask you a series of questions to prove you are a member. Correctly answering the questions rewards you with the Sword of the Dun Banner. Incorrectly answering a question results in the wraith attacking you. If you possess a beaver cap or the Dun Banner cloak then he will allow one incorrect response.

Select the following answers:
1. "I served in the Banner".
2. "You got it wrong."
3. "Menno Coehoorn."
4. "Coehoorn is dead."
5. "Vandergrift and Seltkirk."
6. "I was lead out by a priest."

Now loot the sarcophagus with the Dun Banner to complete the quest.

Hatred Symbolized[witcher.fandom.com]
Exit Vergen and return to the area near the mist. Pass under the giant stone archway. There is a house nearby where you can complete A Sackful of Fluff[witcher.fandom.com] now if you already have 80 Harpy feathers. Otherwise take the first left and enter the Tunnel of the Founders. This area is dark so you will need to use Cat potions or Flares. You will eventually find a Bullvore in a large open area. Kill it and loot the corpse nearby for the Catacomb key. Enter the doorway and speak to Zoltan and Saskia. Saskia will give you the Commander's sword and tell you that Skalen Burdon[witcher.fandom.com] has the spear. You can quickly exit the mines now, but I recommend picking up the Blood Sword silver sword (32-36 damage) in a chest near another Bullvore on the bottom right of the map.

Return to Vergen and speak to Skalen. Beat him at dice and you will obtain The Spear of Destiny[witcher.fandom.com]. You can also play him two more times to win Princess Xenthia's Sword (31-35 steel sword) and a Dun Banner cloak.
Chapter 2 - Roche
The Blood Curse (2)[witcher.fandom.com]
Enter the mist and make your way back to the Kaedweni camp. Use the medallion and follow the floating purple skull until you find the exit. Roche will meet you when you exit the mist. Store your items near the Brothel and then follow Roche to an abandoned Nilfgaard camp. Loot a note in the nearby tent and then speak to Henselt to begin lifting the curse. Follow Henselt to the top of the hill where Sabrina was executed and speak to him again. Then direct his movement so that he draws the rune in Dethmold's grimoire.

1. Petrified bread
2. Black candles
3. Goat skull
4. Scorched tree
5. Raven corpse
6. Sour milk in stone bowl
7. Pixie ring

Finally, interact with the circle to light it on fire. You will have to kill 9 wraiths before the curse has been lifted.
Exorcist: +10% damage against spectres and wraiths
Remove the curse from the king.
Return to the camp and speak to Henselt in his tent at midnight. Then defeat the assassins that show up to kill him.
Swordsman: +4 sword damage
Defend King Henselt from the two assassins.

The Assassins of Kings[witcher.fandom.com]
After defeating one of the assassins you will need to assist Dethmold in a necromancy ritual. Go to the lower camp and talk to Dethmold. Then buy the Gadwall potion formula from the merchant outside of the tent. Craft the potion and use it before talking to Dethmold again. The ritual will make you relive the memories of the dead assassin. Once you are in the dream you should follow the other assassin until you reach a cave. Follow him closely in the cave to avoid traps until you reach Letho. Finally, avoid detection while in the Kaedweni camp until you fight some soldiers.
Necromancer Relive all of Auckes's memories in Dethmold's vision.
Head south until you reach the kingslayer's hideout like in the dream. Enter the hideout and kill the gargoyles and golem.
David: 10% increased damage dealt to opponents much bigger than Geralt
Kill the golem in the kingslayer's hideout.
Talk to the dying assassin to have a flashback which starts the quest Returning Memories[witcher.fandom.com]. Return to Dethmold and he will give you the medallion which completes Faith Symbolized[witcher.fandom.com]. Speak to him again to begin lifting the curse from the land.

The Eternal Battle[witcher.fandom.com]
Enter the mist outside of the camp and you will become possessed by a ghost. You will be unable to cast spells or roll. This means that you will need to rely on parrying attacks. Parrying does not eliminate damage completely.

Note: This battle is one of the most difficult parts of the game.

Strategy:
  1. Defeat 3 wraiths and a Draugir. Wait a couple seconds or your allies will catch fire. Kill the wraiths first. Be patient and wait until you have an opening to attack.
  2. Hide behind each barricade until after the arrows land before moving forward.
  3. Defeat the soldiers and prioritize the weaker enemies first. Wait and heal after the first 3 are dead. Try to fight the remaining enemies one at a time.
  4. Use Quen and Yrden against the weaker Draugir until the larger Drag shows up. Keep Quen up and roll dodge when you are charges at you. Then backstab him until he blocks.
  5. Run down the hill and exit the battlefield.
Fat Man Kill the draug.

Conspiracy Theory (2)[witcher.fandom.com]
You will wake up at the brothel and Dandelion will tell you that Dethmold has arrested some conspirators. He will also say that he overheard something in a hut on the cliff to the south. Travel to the hut and listen to Roche confess that he was plotting against Henselt. Follow him back to the Blue Stripes camp where some soldiers will attack you. After you kill the soldiers you should prepare to face a lot more. Use a Hanged Man's Venom and craft some Red Haze and Dancing Star bombs. Then follow Roche into the Kaedweni camp and kill the soldiers before heading to the canteen and speaking with Ves.

The Siege of Vergen[witcher.fandom.com]
Head south towards the kingslayer's hideout and talk to the She-Troll nearby. You can kill her or let her live depending on which achievement you want. Make sure to loot the chest in the shipwreck to progress the quest Mystic River[witcher.fandom.com]. Don't use the Vran armor enhancement that you get from it. Then head towards Vergen until you find a troll under attack. This is the final troll needed for the achievement.
Trollslayer Kill all 3 talking trolls in the game.
Friend Of Trolls Help all 3 talking trolls in the game and spare their lives.
Head into the Tunnel of the Founders and kill the soldiers and monsters along the way. Eventually you enter a large room where you will fight Adam Pangratt and Dethmold. After the battle you can choose to kill Pangratt or let him live.
Executioner: +1% chance to instantly kill enemies
Earned by killing Aryan La Valette, Adam Pangratt, and Henselt.
Exit the tunnels and speak to Zoltan who asks you to help Iorveth. Enter the door on the left and climb the stairs until Roche becomes separated from you. You have 2 choices:
1. Save Iorveth.
Iorveth is located on the bottom right of the map. Saving him rewards you with Naevde Seidhe[witcher.fandom.com] silver sword (30-34 damage).
2. Head directly to Philippa and Síle.

Kill the golem blocking the path before entering Philippa's room. Be prepared for a difficult battle unless you have Red Haze bombs. Yrden will also be very helpful in this fight. Cast Quen before entering the door and watch Síle escape through a portal. Then Henselt and 4 soldiers will enter the room and attack you. Red Haze bombs, Snare traps, and Riposte are highly recommended for this fight. After the battle Roche will demand that you let him kill Henselt.
Reasons of State Stop Roche from killing Henselt.
Executioner: +1% chance to instantly kill enemies
Earned by killing Aryan La Valette, Adam Pangratt, and Henselt.
Roche and you will then travel to Loche Muinne in search of Letho.
Alea Iacta Est Complete Chapter 2.
Chapter 2 - Side Quests (Roche)

1. In Cervisia Veritas[witcher.fandom.com] Kaedweni camp (drunk soldiers)
Speak to one of the drunk soldiers shouting for Odrin. Then take the west exit and find Odrin passed out by a cave. The cave contains an Armor of Ban Ard[witcher.fandom.com] next to a golem. Carry Odrin back to the camp and speak to the guard at the gate.

You have 3 choices:
1. He's a prisoner. (*)
The guard will let you enter.
2. He has important information.
The guard will refuse you without a bribe.
3. Bribe the guard (30 orens).

Carry Odrin to his mates and then head towards the canteen. Make sure to answer "Think Henselt might have a job for me?" followed by "The king knows what he is doing." This results in Odrin giving you a square coin[witcher.fandom.com] and tells you to ask for Whistling Wendy at the brothel. This starts the main quest Conspiracy Theory[witcher.fandom.com].

2. The Butcher of Cidaris[witcher.fandom.com] Kaedweni canteen (Manfred)
Prerequisite: Must be completed before Conspiracy Theory[witcher.fandom.com].

Manfred and his son Sven will have an argument outside of the canteen. Speak to Manfred inside the canteen and convince him to let you help Sven. Now go outside and convince Sven to make the duel a two on two. Challenge Letande Avet in the tent with wanted posters and then return to Sven to begin the fight. It does not matter if Sven survives. After the fight Manfred will give you a square coin[witcher.fandom.com] which starts the main quest Conspiracy Theory[witcher.fandom.com].
3. Ave Henselt![witcher.fandom.com]
Prerequisite: complete The Butcher of Cidaris[witcher.fandom.com]

You will be asked to participate in a tournament immediately after completing The Butcher of Cidaris. Speak to Proximo to fight 4 separate opponents: Gwydion, Rendag, Borin, and Ves. You can take a break after the first 2 fights.
Gladiator Defeat all opponents in the Kaedweni arena.
If you defeat Ves then you can seduce her by talking to her at the Blue Stripes tent just outside of the camp. Head over to her as soon as possible or she may not be there. When speaking to her choose: "That was a great duel." > "I also feel like using this opportunity." > "She's brave and beautiful." > "I like that idea."
Heartbreaker Seduce Ves.

4. Against the Blue Stripes[witcher.fandom.com] Blue Stripes Camp
Speak with Lars, Fenn, or Silas in the Blue Stripes camp and ask for a fistfight. After defeating two of them you will be challenged by Roche. After beating Roche you will be challenged by Burton. This quest will continue in Chapter 3 with A Score to Settle[witcher.fandom.com].

5. Bring it on: Kaedweni Camp[witcher.fandom.com]
Prerequisite: completed Bring it on: Flotsam[witcher.fandom.com] in Chapter 1.

Defeat Randal and Martin at arm wrestling. They are located on a small hill with a campfire near the blacksmith. Then defeat Magnus the blacksmith. Finally, defeat Pangratt in the upper part of the camp. You can arm wrestle him any number of times for 100 orens.

6. Poker Face: Kaedweni Camp[witcher.fandom.com]
Go to the canteen in the camp and beat Fragile and Gondor at dice. Then defeat Zyvik near the blacksmith. Then go to the brothel outside of the camp and beat Madame Carole. Finally go back inside of the camp and defeat Lasota the quartermaster near the entrance. After defeating all of them you will be rewarded with a choice of 200 orens or one of 3 diagrams (leather, hardened leather, studded leather). I recommend the money or studded leather.

7. The Rotfiend Contract[witcher.fandom.com]
Gain knowledge of rotfiends by reading a book about them or by killing enough of them (around 12). Then burn the 9 corpses around the encampment that are being eaten by rotfiends. Each location has 3 corpses.
Pest Control Finish all quests involving the destruction of monster nests.

8. Little Sisters[witcher.fandom.com] Kaedweni camp (Mavrick)
Speak with Mavrick near the west gate after some soldiers ridicule him. He will tell you about a wraith and tell you to speak with Liva at the brothel to learn more. Head to the abandoned house near a beach to the south west of camp. Meditate until midnight and speak to the wraith on the beach. The wraith will tell you that Mavrick killed the sisters. You have 2 choices:
1. Kill the wraiths (50 XP). This ends the quest.
2. Help Mavrick at the camp.

Before talking to Mavrick you should investigate the wraith's story. Head to the graves behind the house and examine Malget's grave. Then use Aard on the barrels next to the house to uncover a trap door. Light the candles in the basement according to Malget's grave (V◇Λ) and loot the notes to start From a Bygone Era[witcher.fandom.com]. WARNING! The wraiths will not appear if you complete From a Bygone Era before speaking to them.

Return to the camp and speak with Mavrick. You have 2 choices:
1. Accuse him of murdering his sisters.
He will run away and be murdered by the wraiths. If you return to them they will summon a Demon which drops a Mahakaman sihil[witcher.fandom.com] steel sword schematic (29-35 damage).
2. Ask him to help defeat the wraiths. (600 XP).
Make sure to use quick attacks against the wraiths. If Mavrick dies then the result is the same as accusing him of murder.
From a Bygone Era[witcher.fandom.com]
Prerequisite: Obtain Malget's notes during Little Sisters[witcher.fandom.com].

You have 2 options:
1. Give the notes to Deathmold. (200 orens)
2. Save the notes until Chapter 3 and earn a free respec along with an interesting questline.

9. A Sackful of Fluff[witcher.fandom.com] Elthon's hut
Prerequisite: accessible after you have crossed the mist and entered Vergen.

Enter a hut to the southwest of Vergen near a quarry and speak to Elthon inside. You need to gather a total of 80 feathers for this quest and will be rewarded up to 500 orens. He will initially ask you for 12 feathers, then 60, and then 8 more. Persuading him to give you more money will actually earn you a little less money. Return to his hut after giving him all of the feathers to obtain a Elthon's trophy[witcher.fandom.com].
Chapter 3 - Roche
For Termeria![witcher.fandom.com]
Follow Roche down the mountain until you meet some guards. There is an optional path here that you can visit any time. The path contains two Arachas that will ambush you and a chest that contains the Deithwen silver sword (44-48 damage). There is also a cave with Endregas nearby. If you travel completely through the cave and stop at the edge of the cliff you can obtain an achievement.
Winter Solstice Bow before the Winter Shrine.
Winter's Shroud: 20% chance of freezing opponents with Aard
Earned by visiting the Winter Shrine near Loc Muinne.
Talk to the guards and they will let you enter the city. Then travel to the center of town and talk to Roche. Follow him to talk with King Radovid. Then follow Roche back to the inn and talk to Brigida Papebrock. She will ask you to help her escape the city. If you decline to help her then she will temporarily wait for you at the front gate. Her questline can be skipped.

Lilies and Vipers (optional)[witcher.fandom.com]
Talk to Brigida outside of Loc Muinne and follow her into the forest. This starts Crown Witness[witcher.fandom.com]. You can abandon the quest by leaving in the direction that you came. You will be ambushed by some soldiers down the path. Throw some Red Haze bombs at the swordsmen and kill the archers on the hill first. After the fight you will have multiple paths to choose from. The Nekker cave has a Dancer[witcher.fandom.com] and another Deithwen sword. Outside of the cave are 3 Endregas cocoons. Killing these spawns an Endregas queen that will attack the bandits up ahead. The queen also drops pheromones which is needed for the quest An Encrypted Manuscript.

Keep going until you reach the dead smuggler. Then speak to Brigida until the mage attacks with more soldiers. After the battle Brigida will give you a document that implicates Kimbolt. Visit Kimbolt in Loc Muinne and discuss the document. He will tell you that it's a forgery and the scribe outside can prove it. The scribe can be found drunk in his bed, so you are on your own. Read the scribes notes which state "light, quench, sh*t, rinse." His bookshelf has 5 Scribe's Notes that you can use for practice. The quest will fail if you incorrectly analyze the document.

Solution:
1. Add burnt lime
2. Add water
3. Add cormorant guano
4. Heat and capture the vapors with cold water.

Return to Kimbolt and admit that the document was a forgery. Kimbolt will then ask you to investigate Count Maravel which starts The Messenger[witcher.fandom.com]. After leaving the room you will be asked to speak with Count Maravel. Accepting Maravel's request starts Pacta Sunt Servanda[witcher.fandom.com] You can optionally complete both of these quests.

The Messenger
This quest will be easier if you completed the Gargoyle Contract. Talk to Aldrich to start the quest. Follow him and then attack the messenger's bodyguards. Then kill the mage. He teleports away from you when you get near him. In order to kill him you need to cast Yrden on his teleport spots to stun him. After killing him you can loot his corpse for a note.

Pacta Sunt Servanda
Count Maravel will tell you that some mercenaries are blackmailing Kimbolt. Defend them and they will agree to testify against Kimbolt.

Lilies and Vipers
Speak to John Natalis after completing either quest above. You have 3 options:
1. Accuse Maravel of treason.
Rewards you with 500 XP, 100 orens, and a Ceremonial Ellandrian steel sword (48-55 damage).
2. Accuse Kimbolt of treason.
Rewards you with 500 XP, 200 orens, an Encrusted Nilfgaardian Lawgiver steel sword (50-55 damage)
3. Accuse both of them of treason.
Rewards you with 750 XP and a Medal of Distinguished Service to Termia[witcher.fandom.com] trophy.

Of His Blood and Bone[witcher.fandom.com]
NOTE: This quest prevents you from completing the next part of Where is Triss Merigold?

Speak to Roche near the sewers in the center of Loc Muinne and help him free Anais from Dethmold. When you start the mission you will be forced to use Axii on the guards. Failing the ability adds a few more enemies to the battle. Keep heading forward through large groups of soldiers until you are attacked by a mage. Killing the mage can be a bit tricky. Casting Yrden while on top of him might work. After the battle you can head into Dethmold's quarters to watch Roche kill Dethmold. Roche will then mention that you should take Anais to Radovid.

You have 2 choices:
1. Agree to give Anais to Radovid as promised.
Radovid's soldiers will escort you out of the camp.
2. Take Anais to John Natalis.
Radovid's soldiers will attack you when you leave Dethmold's chambers.
Kingmaker Help Roche rescue Anais.
Loot Dethmold's corpse and open his safe to obtain the
Forgotten Vran[witcher.fandom.com] steel sword. Then return to the sewer exit.

Where is Triss Merigold?[witcher.fandom.com]
NOTE: This quest prevents you from completing Of His Blood and Bone and earning an achievement.

Speak to Shilard the Nilfgaard ambassador and accuse him of imprisoning Triss. He will become your hostage until he is shot. Fight and climb your way to through the camp. Eventually you will fight Renauld and a mage. After killing everybody in the camp you need to free Triss and speak with her before leaving.

A Summit of Mages[witcher.fandom.com]
WARNING! This is the final part of the game. You will be unable to complete any more quests or visit merchants after this point.

Speak to Triss or Roche in front of the ampitheatre before heading inside. Watch the discussion over who will control Temeria until a dragon saves Síle.

Enter the Dragon[witcher.fandom.com]
Climb to the top of the tower to stop Síle. When you get to the top of the tower she will create a portal to escape.

You have 2 choices:
1. Fix the broken portal.
Sensitive Guy Save Síle from dying in the unstable portal.
2. Do nothing and watch her die.
Witch Hunter Leave Síle to die in the unstable portal.

The dragon will then break through and attack you. After defeating the dragon you will be given a choice to spare or kill it.
Being Witcher George Kill the dragon.
Dragonheart Spare the dragon.

Epilogue[witcher.fandom.com]
Once Ain't Enough Reach the Epilogue of the game.
Follow Roche down the path until you meet Triss and Letho.
Old Friends Spare Letho.
Avenger Kill Letho.
To Be Continued... Finish the game.
Chapter 3 - Side Quests (Roche)

1. A Score to Settle[witcher.fandom.com]
Prerequisite: completed Against the Blue Stripes during Chapter 2.

Enter the center of Loc Muinne and Burton will challenge you to a fist fight. Defeat him to complete the quest.

2. Bring it on: Loc Muinne[witcher.fandom.com] Loc Muinne Notice Board
Speak to Mighty Numa and challenge him to arm wrestling. Bet the minimum because beating him is nearly impossible. Accuse him of cheating and intimidate or fist fight him to convince him to stop cheating. If you fail then you can buy Anabolic Steroids from the merchant next to Numa in order to beat him. Arm wrestle him again and beat him to complete the quest.

3. Poker Face: Loc Muinne[witcher.fandom.com] The Incredible Lockhart
Go to the building north of the entrance of Loc Muinne near a group of Nilfgaardian bounty hunters. Speak to the elves playing dice and defeat Filly and Aylaya. Then beat the two mages at the table next to them. Finally, go to the center of Loc Muinne and beat The Incredible Lockhart.

He will offer you one of 4 rewards:
1. 250 orens
2. Magic Wrap armor enhancement diagram
3. Fire Rune and Earth Rune
4. Runic Armor enhancement

4. Mystic River[witcher.fandom.com]
Enter the sewers from a door near the Mighty Numa. Walk to the end of the sewers and kill a large group of rotfiends. Then loot Diagram: Vran armor[witcher.fandom.com] and Armor of Ysgith[witcher.fandom.com] from the chests. Finally, craft the Vran armor to complete the quest.

5. The Gargoyle Contract[witcher.fandom.com] Loc Muinne Notice Board
Optionally speak to Bras of Ban Ard near the inn about the gargoyles. Then optionally purchase and read the Runes of Power books from him.

The gargoyles have 3 spawning locations. One is north of the entrance of Loc Muinne. Another is south of the entrance. The last is near Ilona the bearded elf lady behind the inn. Every room has the same 4 runes and a manuscript. The manuscripts are hints on how to solve each room. See Rune Combinations[witcher.fandom.com] for all possible solutions. Solving the runes incorrectly will nearly kill you, so make sure you are at full health.
Runes:
Animal Death Sky Time
Return to Bras of Ban Ard after clearing all 3 nests to complete the quest.
Pest Control Finish all quests involving the destruction of monster nests.
The rune rooms contain An Encrypted Manuscript,[witcher.fandom.com] Addan Deith silver sword (45-50 damage) and Elder Blood armor diagrams. These are some of the best items in the game.
6. An Encrypted Manuscript[witcher.fandom.com] item
Prerequisite: obtain the Encrypted Manuscript during The Gargoyle Contract.

Bring the document to Bras of Ben Ard near the inn. He will decypher the document and ask for some ingredients.
1. Warrior Nekker Blood
2. Queen Endrega's Pheromones
3. Bullvore Brain
4. Harpy Egg or Rotfiend Tongue
You can obtain the Queen Endrega's pheromones in Chapter 1 or during the Lilies and Vipers questline. Return these ingredients to Bras and he will give you a Caerme steel sword diagram.[witcher.fandom.com] This sword isn't as good as some other options.

7. From a Bygone Era[witcher.fandom.com]
Prerequisite: kept Malget's notes from Chapter 2.

Enter the sewers from a door near the Mighty Numa. Speak to the wisp in front of the door that asks "Nigb't?". Then talk to Bras of Ban Ard near the inn about Malget's notes. He will tell you to say the words between "Nanna Kanpa" and "Nanna Zi" and then say the words after "Nanna Zi" in reverse order. Answering the wisp incorrectly causes you to take some damage. Answering correctly opens a portal.
Malget's Notes: "Nanna Kanpa Zi Uddu-ya Ia Ia Gat Exa Nanna Zi Uddu-Zi Gat Kanpa Nibbit"
Solution:
Zi + Uddu-ya + Ia Ia + Gat + Exa + Nibbit + Kanpa + Gat + Uddu-zi
After entering the portal you will need to solve a Lights Out type puzzle. The fastest solution is to light the first braizer on the left and the second braizer on the right. You should also be able to solve it by randomly lighting unlit braizers. After completing the puzzle you can speak with The Operator. WARNING! Be prepared to respec before talking to him. You can leave and come back later if you are not ready.

Say "What does this artifact do anyway?" Then you have 3 choices:
1. You are not ready.
He will teleports you out and you will be unable to return.
2. Operate the machine by yourself.
This causes him to fight you and prevents you from respecing. He casts spells, teleports around, and summons gargoyles. You can hide behind a pillar to heal during the fight. He drops the Operator's staff[witcher.fandom.com] (40-60 damage) which has a high chance to light enemies on fire.
3. Yeah. Go ahead and use the machine.
This resets your skills. You should be able to obtain all of these achievements by respecing and reloading.

just a side note on Melitelles heart: you can buy a trolls tongue from cedric AND you get a trolls tongue when you get the she trolls head from sendler. helped the trolll, gave him the head and i still have the tongue from sendler. you can help the troll and still do this quest :)

I made a small tweak. Even if you think Yrden isn't that useful against golems you can always use Quen.

@engie I played on Dark Mode. Every little bit of defense helps. I suppose I could improve the description of the tips, though.

>Quen and Yrden are overpowered.
you do realise that Quen only protects from 1 hit and while its active you cant regenerate vigor, right?

also Yrden is useless in 99% of cases. Its good in 1v1 fights, but (I tried it and it was) useless against golems for example as it wont work against them, making it pointless to cast.

Wouldve been nice to at least have a "Do in this order" type of thing for Iorveth since it is easy to miss the succubus quest.

I didn't bother with the Iorveth path because of the Madman achievement. It kind of ruins the point of attempting 100% completion.

I seem to have stopped receiving notifications from subscribed guides, so sorry for missing messages.

clc * is supposed to make all of the files empty (0 bytes). This caused steam to give a popup when starting the game. They may have changed the system. Another thing to try is turning off cloud sync, deleting some of the saves, and then re-enabling the cloud sync.

The crash fix doesn't work. the clc * thing does nothing. Launching the game after deleting the vdf thing just has them all reload in and it brings back the vdf file. What gives?
