Something about POSTAL
Postal
is an isometric top-down shooter video game developed by Running with Scissors and published by Ripcord Games in 1997. It's a 3D shooter with mainly isometric, but also some top-down levels featuring hand-painted backgrounds. Gameplay and interface are similar to first-person shooters of the time in most

Going Postal
Postal is known all over the world, in Europe, Postal is known also as "Going Postal". Which is the same game as the american release, but it has a few changes, such as not being able to perform executions, the last screen/cutscene is also missing, probably because you are trying to shoot up a school, what a babies. "Going Postal" was re-relased in 2003 in Europe as "Postal: Classic and Uncut". Making it the full and original Postal game for european players, without any censorship.

Super Postal
Super Postal (スーパー郵便 Sūppa Pōstal) is a japanese localized version of Postal. It was imported and translated by a company named Micromouse. It's basically the original american release, but it's dubbed 100% in japanese and it also adds 2 new exclusive levels! Under the name of Super Postal. Also known as the "Postal PowerUp Kit" in Japan which had 3 other releases. "Postal Premium Pack", "Premium Pack Super Price Edition" and "Premium Pack Ultra Price Edition". Super Postal was later officially added into Postal in 2016, cutting the red ribbon and making it available to all players around the world.

Expansion Packs
In 1998 Running with Scissors released an expansion pack for Postal called "Special Delivery" which added 4 new levels. And then later in 2001 releasing a new bundle called "Postal Plus" which included the original Postal game also with the expansion pack "Special Delivery" on one disc.

Story
The story of Postal is pretty simple, and it goes something like this:

"The game follows a man named Postal Dude who has just moved into a city named Paradise, but after a while he gets evicted from his home. He believes that the United States Air Force is releasing poison gas in his town and only he is unaffected. Fighting his way to the Air Force Base, trying to destroy the source of evil coming from the base."

This is just a little summary of the whole Postal story. To get a more detailed version you can check out my other guide, that will show you the full and detailed story of Postal.

Weapons
Ah yes, the amazing arsenal of Postal. Any weapon you can desire, from a M16 to a Flamethrower. Rockets, grenades and many more! Here we will look at all the weapons, with some description and tips to every weapon in Postal.

So let's start it all with the M16

Machine Gun

An amazing all around weapon, can be a great combination with the shotgun in the few first starting levels.

Pros
  • Unlimited ammo
  • Unlimited range
  • Great combo weapon, goes with anything
  • Rapid firing speed

Cons
  • Low damage

Shotgun

Also a great combo weapon, only with a slower firing speed, but shooting around 6 bullets at once. Unlike M16 this one has an ammo limit (100).

Pros
  • High damage
  • Again, great combo weapon

Cons
  • Small range
  • Slow firing speed

Automatic Shotgun
This weapon, the most OP weapon in this game, no exception, this weapon is devastating. If you have this weapon and use your ammo wisely, you won the game.

Pros
  • Insane damage
  • Super fast firing speed

Cons
  • Wastes all your shotgun shells quickly

Grenade

The first throwing weapon you will find. You can kill also kill multiple people with one explosion. Only the range is locked, so your crosshair is a bit useless.

Pros
  • Kills anyone with one explosion
  • Good for groups of hostiles

Cons
  • Small explosion radius
  • Locked range

Rocket Laucher (Normal Missiles)

Great weapon for hostiles in long distances that you dont wanna mow down with your M16, and its also a one shot one kill weapon.

Pros
  • Unlimited range
  • Kills anyone in one shot

Cons
  • Not enough ammo
  • Prepare to miss most of your shots
  • Slow firing speed

Rocket Laucher (Heatseeking Missiles)
An alt fire for the rocketlauncher, functions the same only locks on any living target in sight.

Pros
  • Unlimited range
  • Kills anyone in one shot
  • Locks on target

Cons
  • Not enough ammo
  • Slow firing speed

Molotov

A better version of the grenade, on impact explodes into a ring of fire, setting any living creature in its radius on fire, resulting in an auto kill.

Pros
  • Whoever gets sets on fire automatically dies
  • Good for group of hostiles
  • Hostiles that are set on fire, can set others on fire too by running into them

Cons
  • Small explosion radius
  • Locked range

Napalm Launcher
This monstrosity creates a trail of fire as it hits and travels forward across the ground. Setting anyone on fire that stands in its way.

Pros
  • Larger fire radius than molotov
  • Insta kills anyone that gets set on fire

Cons
  • Locked range
  • Most of the time really useless, since almost never hostiles run at you behind eatchother

Flamethrower
Last but not least, one of the most effective weapons in Postal and my personal favourite. Fires a long string of flame, setting anyone on fire that comes in its path.

Pros
  • 200 Flame rounds
  • Instakills anyone that gets set on fire
  • Pretty far reach

Cons
  • Flame rounds run out pretty quickly
Enemies
Now that we have the weapons covered up, we need some targets to shoot at, right ? So why not choose a few out of Postal's selection. In here I will show you all the hostiles, aswell as their equipment and such.

Police Officer

The first most common enemy that you will encounter is the male and female police officer. Spawning in literally in every lever. Can we easily killed by 2 or 3 shotgun blasts

Equipment: Pistol, Machine Gun, Shotgun or Automatic Shotgun, depending on the difficulty.

Grenader

Also a hostile that you encounter in every level, only throwing grenades or molotovs and sometimes also dynamite. With moderate HP, can be easily killed in a few shotgun blasts.

Equipment: Grenade, Molotov, Dynamite

Sheriff

Again, really common hostile, appearing in every level. Carrying mostly M16 like Police Officers, changes weapons on higher difficulty like PO. Also has a bit more HP than PO.

Equipment: Pistol, Machine Gun, Shotgun or Automatic Shotgun, depending on the difficulty.

Rocketeer

Another very common hostile, probably the hostile that has the most HP in the whole game. He really feels like a huge bullet sponge. Carrying only missiles and heatseeking missiles on higher difficulty.

Equipment: Missiles, Heatseeking Missiles

Miner

Finally some rare hostile! Appearing in the Mine for the first time, and then few more time in the rest of the game. Carring only dynamite. He also is the weakest hostile in the entire game, sometimes go down in 1 or 2 shotgun blasts.

Equipment: Dynamite

Sentry

And finally, the only artificial hostile in the game, a sentry that shoots bullets like the M16, spreading fire or shooting like an Auto. Shotgun. It can literally shoot anything. But watch out, once you destroy it will fire one rocket in your direction.

Equipment: Machine Gun, Auto. Shotgun, Napalm Laucher, Flamethrower, Rocketlauncher
Items
As well as many weapons and enemies to shoot at, Postal has many items that'll help you on your way to be the true psycho killer. Whether it'll be healthpacks, ammo or kevlar.

Healthpack
This little cube will be your best sidekick on your killing adventure.
  • Adds up to 10 to 30 HP per pickup.

Shotgun shells
Another great little helper, the shotgun ammo, aswell as the auto. shotgun ammo.
  • Adds up to 7 to 10 ammo per pickup.

Grenade
A simple grenade item.
  • Adds up to 3 grenades per pickup.

Heatseeking missile
Another ammo based item.
  • Adds up to 3 to 6 heatseeking missiles in your rocketlauncher per pickup.

Napalm
A simple pack of napalm.
  • Adds up to 3 rockets into your napalm launcher.

Flamethrower tank
A small yet powerful flameable tank you can put into your flamethrower.
  • Adds up to 50 ammo per pickup.

Wooden box
A very handy item you can find almost in every level.
  • Adds a random amount of ammo into almost every weapon you carry.

Backpack
Last item in the game. A simple red backpack full of rockets and mines.
  • Adds up to 3 mines into your inventory with also up to 3 of rockets, normal and heatseeking ones.

I swear, the AR is for hunting!

Complete the game using only the M16.

Holes is holes

Take 10,000 hits. This will take you a few hours, I would recommend setting the difficulty on "easy" and run into groups of hostiles with M16's.

Boondock Saint

Complete the game without letting any non-hostile NPCs die. Here are a few tips:

1) Try to always stand infront of hostiles, and kill them as fast as possible, dont let them run around.
2) On late levels use the Flamethrower as much as you can, civilians wont ever run into the burning hostiles.
3) Save after every level, but only if you are 100% sure you killed only hostiles. Even create multiple save files, just to make sure.
4) You dont have to kill all the hostiles, only get to the same % as the level wants you to.
5) Try to use instakill weapons as much as you can (grenades, molotovs and missiles)
6) Keep in mind that if a hostile kills a civilian, it counts as a kill, so if you see one lying on the ground, restart the level.

7) You could also totally use the easy way, type "theresnoplacelikeoz" which will skip the level you just entered. But only real sissies use this method, be a man and beat the devil at his own game.

Mickey and Mallory

Make 10000 kills. This one will take you a few hours to complete, but to make it faster, go to challenges>timed>have a blast. Use molotov where the civilians spawn, you should kill around 400 people.

Peter North would be proud

Hit 100,000 targets. This one will take a few hours too, but to make it, again.. faster, go to challenges>flag>unarmed bridge sprint. As the level starts go to the right corner asap, take out your M16 and start firing at one of the rocket sentries in your sight. And after that, repeat until you get the achievement.

Bulletstorm

Fire 1,000,000 bullets. Probably the most time consuming achievements of them all. But heres a tip:

Step 1: When entering a level, type the cheat "Shellfest" and "Shotgun". This will give you shotgun ammo aswell as the Automatic Shotgun.
Step 2: Kill everyone in said level
Step 3: Equip your Automatic Shotgun and start firing, after your ammo runs out, type the cheat "Shotgun" again, fire all the bullets and repeat this process until you get the achievement. If you do this fast enough you should fire around 50,000 bullets in around 10 minutes.

And yes cheats do disable achievements but not the ones the require a certain number of people dead or bullets fired.
Cheats
As well as any game in existence, Postal also offers many cheats that can spice up your game if you feel like a sissyyy. So here is complete list of cheats for Postal. Also keep in mind that enabling cheats disables almost (not including "Bulletstorm", "Peter North would be proud
" and just the ones that include some number of kills and bullets fired) all the achievements. So don't cry if your precious achievements won't unlock. You have to restart the game or start a new one, and your save file with cheats on will be gone!

And how do you activate those cheats in-game?
Pick a cheat you want to enable, start a new game or any level you like and type the cheat on your keyboard after you enter the level.

Secrets
As well as many hostiles, weapons and achievements. Postal surprisingly offers some secrets too! Those secrets are mostly hidden places in some maps that reward you with health and ammo. So if you are playing on some of the higher difficulties, those secrets will help you out with your killing spree.

Truckstop
The first one you can find is in the 2nd level, Truckstop. Go to the bottom right corner of the level, and behind a few trees, there it is! On higher difficulties its guarded by a rocket sentry.

Parade of Disasters
In the level, Parade of Disasters, you wont find only one, but 2 secrets! The first being behind a destroyed wall. Going further you can find a healthpack and a box full of ammo.

As for the second secret, its located under the gas station. Go down the narrow forrest path, where you will find a few hostiles aswell as sentries. Rewarding you by some more healthpacks and boxes of ammo.

Farm
In the level farm, you can find one secret located in the top right corner of the level. Right above the ostrich farm.
Central Park
As for the last secret for the game, and the most difficult to find Is the secret in the Central Park level. Go to the top left corner of the level. Right above the mini golf course with Godzilla, make your way throught the trees to the top of the level. Rewarding you with healthpack, ammo boxes and more.

Easter Eggs
In Postal there are also many easter eggs to find! Most of those easter eggs are just sounds that objects on the map do when you get close to them. But there are one or two neat references. So lets take a look at them.

Phone Booth
Dont get fooled by the title, this easter is for all you coomers. In the whole game there are phone booths placed around levels, not every level though. I found only 3. So whats so interesting about it ? When you get close to the booth, you can hear a woman moaning. Yup, thats it. Now thats an easter egg.

The Outskirts

Parade of Disasters

The City

Church
In the level called "The Ghetto" you can find a church at the right top side of the level. Once you kill all the hostiles coming from it, you can go inside and hear people singing.

Radio Cabin
In the second level, "The Outskirts". You can find a small cabin in the middle of the level. Once you get near it, you can hear some type of radio sound coming from inside.

Godzilla
The famous japanese Godzilla, it doesnt fully appear in Postal, only its footprint does. On a destroyed building the Super Postal level "Tokyo". You can also hear the Godzilla roaring once you can close to the destroyed building.

Running with Scissors
In the level "The Ghetto". You can find a group of protestors infront of the running with scissors building, the company that created Postal. This same scene is also in Postal 2, on monday.

Multiplayer
Multiplayer sadly doesnt really work for Postal anymore, as if it ever have. Nowdays you can only play LAN sessions. And even those can get pretty laggy. You can host or join a server, where you can play a co-op version of the game, or see who gets the most kills first. There arent many options for the Multiplayer game, so rather stick with the Singleplayer one.

Challenges
When you get bored of the single player campaign, or you have no friends to play multiplayer with, the Challanges are perfect for you! Those challenges include 4 gamemodes. The Gauntlet, Timed, Goal and Checkpoint.

The Gauntlet
The Gauntlet is a special mode, combining the timed, goal and checkpoint modes all in one huge compilation.

Timed
In this mode, you have one goal. Kill. Kill as many people under a time limit, fun, right? You can also pick from 5 levels. Im sure you will really like.. "Have a blast".

Goal
in this mode, your goal is to kill a certain amount of hostiles as fast as you can. You can also choose from 6 levels! Put the difficulty on hard, and get ready for the ultimate Postal challenge.

Checkpoint
And last the Checkpoint mode. In this mode there are flags places around a level. And your goal is to collect them all under a time limit, while killing hostiles too.

Extras
And at last, here are a few extra neat things that I've found in the options of Postal. So lets take a look.

Coat Color
If you're feeling fancy, you can change the coat color of our lovely Postal Dude, available in 8 colors!
  • Purple
  • Tan
  • Black
  • Green
  • Blue
  • Gray
  • Brown
  • Red

Japanese Dubbing

In the audio options, you can change the language to Japanese, which was first introduced in the japanese version of Postal, Super Postal. Which is a really great little thing that RWS has decided to add.

Difficulty Slide

As any other game, even Postal has its difficulty options. Easy, Medium, Hard and Masochist. The only thing that those difficulties change is the equipment of hostiles. For example, on Easy all the hostiles have M16's, and on Masochist they all have Auto Shotguns even in the first level, with unlimited ammo. Now thats a challenge, too bad that there isn't an achievement for completing the game on Masochist.

Original Controls

Have you ever wanted to play Postal with the original controls from 1997 ? No ? Well now you can! With just one click you can experience those awful controls, and maybe turn up the difficulty setting, if you feel like a total madman. Those controls were actually still in Postal until 2016 (I think). And you couldn't change them. What a dark age, am I right.

Demos

Back in the day, it was pretty normal for games to include demos. A piece of gameplay made by the devs playing in the background if you stay idle for some time. In those demons you can look at the gameplay of levels like Construction, Home and Bridge.
The End
Thank you
for taking your time and reading throught this guide.
It took me few days to make this guide come to life, so dont forget to leave a like if you found this guide useful, or maybe even add it to your favourites!

Super helpful guide. I actually found a less tedious way of doing Mickey and Mallory & Peter North Would Be Proud at the same time. It's slower but its two birds with one stone. Do "Have A Blast" and using "Shellfest" to get the auto-shotgun and just unload on all the civilians. Use "Shotgun" to replenish and rinse and repeat the challenge.
