Starters Guide 1.4
By prpl_mage
A guide for new and returning players on the basics of the new 1.4 update (Journey's End).

One of many I assume seeing as this last patch is rather hyped up. Not sure if this can achieve something others haven't already done but will update it as I play through the new content.

Foreword
But... The update isn't out yet..?
Yes I know, this is a guide based on dev posts, youtube videos and a small amount of assumptions. But it should still serve the purpose of helping you know about major changes that might convince you to return to the game, make a new character or anything like that.

PS the update drops on May 16th, somwhere between 10am and 1pm EDT

Why isn't everything in the guide?
I figured that some people don't want to get spoiled and others want all the updates. So I added the essential info here and left links to the official posts that has more detailed info.

Like the Official Spoiler Compendium[forums.terraria.org] that has been updated regurarly throughout development.

Why should I need it if I can just go there myself?
You don't. But for everyone out there who has other games or hobbies occupying their lives then keeping up to date about Terraria may not be top priority. So when Steam notifies them that a new update has dropped - this guide exists and can hopefully help out.

Or as mentioned above, if you want to know the important bits but aren't interested in what weapons have new attack modes or which armor sets have gotten more balanced bonuses.

Another PS
As a reminder, Mac/Linux optimizations, additional Localization, and the Vanity Contest winners will be added in a post-launch update.

Previous updates
Been away for a long time or just want to take a trip down nostalgia lane? Maybe you decided to try the game now as a new player?
Here's my previous guide about everything happening in the 1.3 update (which was a lot) that also covers a lot of information for beginners who just can't get their heads around all the weird terminology and/or what to do.

Characters and World changes
NOTE!
Link[forums.terraria.org]
Worlds and Characters played in 1.4 cannot reroll back to previous patches.

Characters

  • Character creation is now improved
  • Characters can upon creation be made as "Journey Mode Characters" to enable access to the Journey Mode - these are essentially Softcore characters with an admin menu.
  • Journey Mode characters can only play on Journey Mode worlds and therefore only with other Journey Mode characters.
  • Research is saved to Journey mode characters
  • New Character tied storage: Void Vault (and Void Bag that picks up items when you are full AND works like the Money Trough) So that's 4.

Worlds

  • Bestairy Entries are tied to your world, like the banners Link[forums.terraria.org]
  • Journey Mode Worlds can be made (more on that below)
  • Master Mode worlds can be made, (more on that in its own section. But it's basically like Expert but harder.)
  • Journey Mode worlds can only be entered by Journey Mode characters.
  • A new revamped world generation.
  • Seeds can be entered from default (had to do some work around before)
  • Corruption can apparently be chosen from start without having to enter hardmode at least once

New world features
Weather: Thunderstorm, Windy Day
New Oasis biome
Graveyard biome
Improved Desert Biome (again)
Improved Ocean biome
Improved Mushroom biome
Changed Dungeon biome. Now comes in different parts with blocked walls and secret cracked walls. Not as many long corridors.

TModLoader Support
Link[forums.terraria.org]
Video
A DLC for the game with the TModLoader will be added as well as more support for it.
It has always been free but now it is more "accepted" and implemented into the game if you wish. The Terraria Modding community has been active for quite some time since the launch of the game so it only makes sense
Do note that all mods are unofficial and may cause issues with the game. So use at your own risk (and seriously, backup your game files)

Texture pack support
Implemented to allow people to change things around. I assume this will be more widely available thanks to the:

Steam Workshop
Workshop support is said to be added further down the line to upload mods that people make. To make it easier for people to share and download.
Unsure if Modded world and characters will be divided from normal worlds and characters.

Master Mode
The new difficult mode

  • Enemies have higher hp (3x the amount of normal) and deals more damage than expert.
  • According to the Journey Mode slider Expert is 2x and Master is 3x to monsters (need to check this)
  • It has higher enemy spawn rate
  • Each boss in Master mode has 2 unique drops, but it isn't a weapon or accessory. Seems to be a placeable Relic and a Pet
CrazyGameCrafter OK so actually there is 1 new boss drop that isn't cosmetic and it's the new mount from the wof
  • In fact, there seems to be a couple of mounts[terraria.gamepedia.com] exclusive to master mode.

  • CreativeName:You gain an extra accessory slot while playing in a Master mode World.
So this gives you a total of 7 accessory slots if you have gained the Demon Heart from the Wall of Flesh.
  • It is assumed that the drop chance is increased compared to Expert

What's the point?
Probably those super secret Master Mode boss drops.
Otherwise only bragging rights, they said the mode was only for people looking for a real challenge.
Journey Mode
The not-creative mode
Link[forums.terraria.org]
People expected a normal boring creative mode, but being the devs they are - they made it more of a collective fest, which I approve of.

How to play?
Requires a Character made for Journey Mode (meaning that Journey Mode characters will only be able to play with other Journey Mode characters)
Requires a world made with the Journey Mode setting

Each journey mode character starts with a set of starter items:
  • Iron Shortsword
  • Iron Axe, Iron Pickaxe, Iron Hammer
  • Finch Staff (a summon weapon)
  • 100 Torches
  • 100 Rope
  • Magic Mirror (teleports you back to the spawn point)
  • Starter Wings (very limited flight, removes fall damage)

Admin options
Opening the menu, choose Benny the Construction Bunny.
In here you can edit things that is not in a normal world, explained below.

Quality of life
  • Increased placement range, much like the accessorie (up to 10x).
  • You may change the time, freeze time, increase speed and some others.
  • Change weather conditions: what weather it currently is and how intense it is.
  • Turn off infection spread
  • Activate godmode, in which you cannot die

Research and Duplication
Items can be researched which gives you the option to duplicate them
This can be done with Torches, Iron Swords or Slime Staffs etc.

Resources like Wood and utilities like Torches requires some 100 to fully research. However, weapons and armors and such only requires a single research.
Researching items destroys them.

Background walls: 400
Platforms: 200
Blocks: 100
Ore and wood: 100
Ammo and Throwables: 99
Most crafting materials: 25
Potions: 25 or 20
Fish and Food: 5
Critters: 5
Gold Critters: 3
Dye crafting items: 3
Weapons, Tools, Armor, Accessories, Mounts etc: 1
Furniture. 1

Once researched you can simply choose the item you want from a menu and create a max stack of them.
There are some categories and you can search within those categories. However, several items don't appear in any category and needs to be searched to be found (which is slightly annoying).

Difficulty sliders
You can change the difficulty of the enemies in the world with these sliders.
There is one slider that changes the monster stats and drop rate to the different difficulty levels - Journey mode starts at half the difficulty of Normal mode (0,5) but can be increased based on your preferences.
For all rules and purposes, the world now acts as a world on that difficulty - meaning that expert mode items can drop once you pass your slider to expert or higher etc.

Another slider changes the spawn rate from none to a lot.
Apparently this slider works on a local level and not for the entire world. So one person could sit alone at base with spawn off while the other is off grinding for a Paladin Shield in the Dungeon.

What's the point?
The point here is to gain items so you can research them and have an endless supply. And to give you the option to do whatever you want in your world.
So this woud be ideal to set up an adventure map, golf course, fishing world, start a grand building project, play more casually with friends and so on.

Since Journey Characters and Worlds are off limits to other characters this can not be done to bypass the game itself. It's its own thing.
Bestairy
Link[forums.terraria.org]

Bestairy or a monster encyclopedia is a list of every living thing you have encountered in the game, complete with lists and sorting features.

The bestairy is tied to your world, and killing enemies unlocks more information about the monster.
For NPCs, you only need to talk to them.
  • First it's just an entry in the book with flavor text and special conditions to find them/biome
  • Next you get actual stats like hp and gold drop
  • Following that you will see what items it can drop
  • And lastly the actual drop chance for that item.

شولين بولنج: you get a full page after you get the first banner, around that.
Seems to be true for most monsters. But it seems like the rarity (indicated by the stars) also decides how many you need. NPCs and Bosses are unlocked on the first kill.

So what's the point?
Most of this monster info can be found on any of the Terraria wikis.
However, there is a new NPC who has an evolving inventory of items to sell based on your bestairy progress.
You only need to find one of each monster, the info does not need to be maxed out. Having "52 entries" simply mean that 52 question marks have been replaced with actual monsters/npcs.

It appears that there's a super secret and useful reward for completely finishing the Bestiary. It's the Universal Pylon that can be placed anywhere.
NPCs and Towns, Housing Changes
New things for NPCs
Link[forums.terraria.org]
New in the game is that NPCs has Happiness!
NPC Happiness will be a value that can increase or decrease depending on what you do.
  • They will want to live with certain other NPCs
  • They will want to live in certain biomes
  • They will dislike being near too many other NPCs or in too small places
  • Happiness can be checked at each individual character.
  • It will affect prices, between 75%-150%, this is also apparently the actual happines.

Note about the happiness. There is no "right way" to do it. Some NPCs love to be with some NPCs who have dislike towards them in return. Some NPCs love each other, but dislike each others prefered biome.

NOTE: At the moment there seems to be a bug where the dislike and hate values have changed.
This has been fixed in 1.4.3, so people should have an easier time doing what they want.

Housing Changes
Criterias for housing stays the same, so you can keep it the way you like. However, they added some reward for putting effort into building.
3 NPCs in a Biome will count as a town, stopping the enemy spawning (and increasing critter spawn) in the area and changing the music.

Make them happy enough and they will sell you a Biome Pylonupon reaching a happiness/discount of 85% according to the wiki, so it's 85% of 10 gold that can be placed and used to teleport between Pylons, like a Town Portal.
Lucatowalker :I was able to get a forest pylon with only the Merchant and Guide. I don't think you need 3 NPCs.

Which biomes have Pylons?
Forest
Jungle
Desert
Snow
Ocean
Cavern
Mushroom
Hallow
(Universal)

If happy enough and the NPCs will sell Pylons.

Is it hard to get pylons?
Each NPC start their happiness at 100. If you manage to change it to 85 they start selling the Pylons.
All the NPCs don't need to have max happiness to give you a Pylon, only 1 who also has a buy option.
25 tiles is the range according to the wiki that you need to look out for. Too many NPCs within that range and they get sad. Keep a friend within 25 and they are happy.

To reach 85 or lower the easiest thing to do is:

1. Place a NPC with a shop inventory in a biome they like
2. Place 1 additional NPC that they like or love within 25 tiles of the first one.
3. Make sure no other NPCs are within 25 tiles.
4. Make sure there are less than 3 other npcs within 120 tiles.

The people you should try to get happy in each biome for the Pylon to be sold (With focus on pre-hardmode)

Forest Pylon: Zoologist, Golfer or Merchant
Jungle Pylon: Painter, Dryad
Desert Pylon: Dye Trader, Arms Dealer
Snow Pylon: Mechanic
Ocean Pylon: Stylist
Cavern Pylon: Demolitionist, Goblin Tinkerer
Mushroom Pylon: Truffle
Hallow Pylon: Party Girl
(Universal Pylon: Doesn't need anyone, just fill out the Bestiary with all the question marks cleared.)

MrEpicDwarf:To note something on the Pylons, a pylon will no longer function if the biome it is in is overtaken by another. Such as when the Corruption/Crimson/Hollow spawns on top of... say where you put the cavern pylon.
Addition: The graveyard biome (created by having too many tombstones in one place) will also stop the Pylon.

New NPCs and how to get them

Adding this in spoilers because I assume no one wants to be spoiled.

5 new NPCs?
Cat, Dog and Bunny: Apparently bought from the Zoologist
Golfer: "working on his sand trap game" underground desert
Zoologist: Apparently you need 52 entries in the bestiary: I thought it was 50.
Princess: In Hardmode, have all NPCs alive and moved in except Santa and defeat Queen Slime.

Housing suggestions:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2101707389
Pre-hardmode
Forest Merchant, Zoologist, Golfer

Other New Features and/or Changes
Link[forums.terraria.org]

Block Swap
Link[forums.terraria.org]
You can replace blocks, background walls and chests and such.
The old item will be added to your inventory, the new item will replace it.
It uses the same stats as normal mining however so it can't be abused as far as we know.

Throw Damage Attribute Removed
Throw damage weapons will now apparently do Range damage instead.
Well, that class debate is ended

Fishing changes
Crate stacking for hardmode gone
All fishing crates now come in pre-Wall of Flesh and post-Wall of Flesh variants. Pre-Wall of Flesh variants do not contain Hardmode Ores.
Reaver shark nerf
Mining power reduced from 100 to 59 (Daemonite, Crimtane) and lower drop rate.

Added Ice, Oasis, Lava, and Ocean Fishing Crates
Oasis fishing now has its own rewards, including quest rewards
Lava fishing improvements as well, including an accessory that allows any rod to fish in lava
Blood Moon fishing is now a thing
Balanced and changed loot from the fishing crates

New Bosses and enemies
2 new optional hardmode bosses:
Queen Slime, Hardmode underground hallow. Break a new purple crystal to get spawn item. Seems to work like Plantera(the spawning) and
EoL, hardmode post plantera. Overworld hallow. Kill a rare critter (firefly). Kinda like the Martian event trgger.
2 new Mini-bosses: Dreadnautilus (from blood moon fishing hardmode) and Blood Eeel? (from blood moon fishing hardmode)
New variants of existing enemies and and some completely new enemies, some connected to the Blood Moon fishing and mushroom biome.

New Items and Equipment
Some 800 ish new items

Whips
Direct damage weapons dealing summon damage. ideal for your class playthroughs.

Torch God's something something
Replaces all torches you place with the biome specific torch (which increases you luck) can be toggled, earned by placing 100 wrong torches and surviving a projectile attack from each until they are all blacked out.

Guide to Critter Companionship
An item that prevents your damage form killing critters. Ideal for when you want to catch something special, if you have conflicting feelings about bunnies exploding in a gory mess or if you're letting your kids play.

Magic Conch
Teleports you to the furthest Ocean biome.

Potion of Return
ザイキリーン: There's a new potion in 1.4 that's called the Potion of Return which is crafted from a Recall Potion you find just about anywhere, and an Obsidifish which is caught in lava fishing if I remember correctly. The potion allows you to return to your spawn point with the addition of spawning a portal to return you back to where you teleported from.

Lawnmower
Will stop aesthetic grass from spawning. Also matters for golf.

Kites
A new item type. Just seems to be for fun, like firework or bubble machines. It is affected by the new wind system.

Collectables
More Gold Critters(5) to collect, also lower spawn rate of gold critters
More paintings (). some biome specific

Salter: Also now if you defeat the skeletron theres a 1/7 chance to get the item Chippys Couch.

New Vanity
Link[forums.terraria.org]
A community contest was held, people voted and winners were chosen. Mine didn't win but I really like the 5 that will be added to the game. Will post pictures once they get official art.
Plaguebringer's Robes by SodaHunter
Wandering Ronin by crowflux
Timeless Traveler by DisRicardo
Floret Protector by yikescloud
Capricorn by R-MK

They are all crafted with rather common normal mode materials like Silk and Glas

Other stuff.
  • Terrorist_Cat: You can right click the bed on one side to set a spawn point, and right click on the other side to sleep.
  • The Dungeon is now a bit smaller with sections "hidden away" behind cracked blocks either on walls or floor. hitting them or moving on them makes them break. (Dangersense potions are good here).
  • Hitting trees sometimes drop food items and spawns birds
  • Gem Trees can be planted underground by combining an acorn with a gem, gem farms!
  • Increased stack size for most items to 99 or 999.
  • Strange plants will now start spawning in hardmode.
  • There is now a Desert Chest in the Dungeon.
  • Place enough Tombstones in an area and it will turn into the Graveyard Biome, increasing spawns, with some new enemies and items for NPCs to sell and "natural" crafting options. Ecto Mist. [terraria.gamepedia.com]

Balancing
Link[forums.terraria.org]
Monster and items have also seen updates to fit better in the balance of things.

Object interaction
There is now a wind system thingy and more objects will react to each other. Walking through grass will make it sway. Wind will make flags and haning lamps sway etc.

Improved spritework and animation
Link[forums.terraria.org]
The game has been out for some time now and the items and enemies added in 1.3 had a different style than the enemies from the game's start. So it only makes sense that they upgraded a lot of visuals in the game to make it more consistent.
Also biome backgrounds, that's gonna make a difference.
And UI customization.
Lifehacks
New things that are possible thanks to the update

  • You can replace chests without emptying first thanks to the Block Swap
  • No need to change the internal clock: Completing the Frost Moon will make the comming day spawn all the seasonal Christmas content. Completing the Harvest Moon will maek the comming day spawn all he seasonal Halloween content.
  • Fisher quest rewards fixed: the info items needed for the PDA has increased drop rate, and will not be the reward if you carry it, avoiding duplicates.
  • Khaios:Hardcore players can make a Graveyard biome by killing the NPCs.
  • The Bestiary entry for the NPCs reveal which biome they prefer
  • Scarab bombs are great for making straight holes, such as hellevator
  • In singleplayer you can sleep in the bed to increase the time, in multiplayer all players must sleep for the time to increase
  • The Pet NPCs (cat, dog, bunny) count as NPCs for the Pylon requirement of 2 nearby NPCs
  • Prioritize to make the NPCs you use the most happy, some aren't even affected by it.
  • It may be worth not making the Tavernkeep too happy, when the Pylon is added to his inventory, a Sentry Weapon goes missing.
  • Use Dangersense Potions to see the cracks in the Dungeon.

  • Mellow There's a new ruler option at the top left of the inventory below toolbar lock and block switch toggle
  • Persephone: Small bit of advice for the earlygame; get a bunch of iron bars, die about seven times, put all the graves in one spot to make a graveyard, put down an anvil, and make a gravekeeper's shovel. This thing eats dirt, sand, silt, and ash like it's nothing.
  • Can you earn high Golf Scores by making the ball travel downwards as well? Such as putting a cup at the bottom of a hole? Seems so, hard to know.
  • Do the NPCs gain more happiness from having the 3 pet npcs around? (seems so, but unsure if they have preferences here as well.)
  • Can you simply stock up on pylons in one world and bring them to a new one? The criteria for the Pylons to work is 2 present NPCs, nothing about them needing to be happy. (Seems so.)
  • In Journey Mode you can duplicate items and sell them to earn money, but can you duplicate coins as well? (Wayve yes)
  • Is it possible to use the Monster spawning statues to gain a lot of progress in the Beastairy and therefore reap the rewards? (Kinda, the Bestiary doesn't need to be maxed on the information, only the number of entries matter.)
  • Is it possible to use the locked camera of golf balls to scout ahead without danger and look for Sky islands? (Yes)
  • Can you earn achievements in Journey Mode? Will make the fishing quest achievement easy. (Seems so yes. In fact, you can research the quest fish as well...)
Luck
Link[terraria.gamepedia.com]
Luck is a new hidded stat that affect drop rates and spawns. Unfortunately the only way to keep track of it is the Wizard.

I made an entire guide for this:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2103361880

Let's start in the right end: Why should you care?
When an enemy is killed or an object is broken and that entity has a loot table, chances are calculated with a randomizer to see what you get. Same with enemy spawn, times passes, something is supposed to spawn. Where and what is determined by chance.
Luck gives a chance to double or halve that chance "roll".

In most cases, the player performing the roll influences the luck
  • All material drop rates from enemies
  • All unique item drop rates from bosses (with some exceptions).
  • Players with high luck have better coin drop rates and chance of Coin Portals from Pots
  • Chances of enemies dropping Hearts and Mana Stars. And dropping more than 1.
  • Chances of Food dropping from enemies and trees.
  • Chances of items appearing in the Travelling Merchant and Skeleton Merchant inventory. (Based on the player with highest luck.)
  • Chances of spawning special enemies and critters.
  • Chances of a Hardmode Dungeon enemy spawning outside their wall type
  • Chances of the NPCs spawning underground (the ones you need to find).
  • Chances of Fairies spawning underground.
  • Damage calculations, positive luck generates 2 random numbers and pick the highest. Negative the opposite

What is the Luck stat?
Luck is a hidden stat with a value between -1 and 1. This is also translated to a chance for things to be doubled or halved. Having a positive score of 1 means 100%, having a positive score of 0.2 = 20%, 0.6= 60% etc.

How to increase it:
  • Touching Ladybug +0.2 (critters) effect lasts 12min
  • Garden Gnomes +0.2 (assumed range is within 170 tiles)
  • Lantern Nights +0.3 (random "weather effect")
  • Luck Potions, up to +0.3 (explained later)
  • Having the right Torch nearby, up to +0.2 (more on that later)

How to decrease it:
  • Killing Ladybugs -0.2 (critters) effect lasts 3min
  • Having the wrong Torch nearby, up to -0.3 (more on that later)

The Big Torch Debate
The strangest thing to affect luck is the type of torches placed near you (42 tiles) depending on the biome you are in. (it's the same range as a Water Candle/Peace Candle. So a bit larger than your screen).
More than one of the same type of Torch does not affect the score.

Bad Torch Luck was later removed in 1.4.3
Golfing
Golf will be a new activity added to the game.
But well, based on the information we received it doesn't seem to be much more than just that. An activity. Fun and creative but nothing game altering. But I made this section so might as well get on with it.
Link[forums.terraria.org]
Wiki[terraria.gamepedia.com]

What is Golf?
Try to get the ball into the Golf Cup in as few hits as possible. The average score is a "par", hitting under that is good. More hits than that is bad.
The Golf Whistle that returns your ball to you will count as a penalty for your score.

Basics on items
There are four types of clubs that interact differently: Driver, Iron, Wedge and Putter.
The biggest difference between clubs is the Power and Trajectory, but it is implied that some clubs are better on different terrain (like in real life)
There different skins for clubs but from what I gather they are all the same in stats, simply visual.
NetherHunter122 Different clubs are better for different grass types such as the Bunker(sand pit), Green(where the hole is) Fairway(the normal grass of golf) and the Rough(grass that you can't hit as far from).

The ball interacts differently depending on what terrain it is hit from or that it hits after being shot.
The camera will follow the ball after shooting.
There are different skins for balls. But they also seem to be the same.
Golf balls skins changes the visual if worn in an accessory slot or in the inventory.

Golf Tee - starting point, ball travels futher.
Golf Cup - ending point of the course, gives you your score.
Golf Whistle - get your ball unstuck or try again.

Other stuff
The new Golfer NPC is there to sell you all items golf-related.

Golf Score:
Other than the the "course" golf scoring system of stroke count - Golf Score is a character's total experience with playing golf.
Golf score is calculated based on the number of strokes used and the distance between the Tee and the Cup.
Golf score is tied to the character.

What's the point?
Your total Golfing score unlocks more items at the Golfer. The marks seem to be 500 and then 2000. At 2000 you can buy a mount for 50g.
But otherwise mostly great fun for creative people, just look at the video below:

There will also be three downloadable maps made entirely as 9 holed golf courses.
As seen in this video: Link
Crazy Seeds
If you encounter any abnormal seeds, such as starting in Snow, Jungle, Desert, No Cursed Old Man etc. Let me know.

Salter
05162020
Fun fact if you actually make a world with the seed 05162020 it will spawn you with out the guide npc and you fill start with the party girl npc and you can find moonlords legs in a chest xD btw they are wearable
. This world also includes both Crimson and Corruption but the Dungeon is comprimized.

ParaQ7
not the bees
Another easter egg seed is: not the bees
You spawn with the Merchant, all water is changed to honey and most of the world is the jungle biom and Queen Bee spawners also spawn on the overworld.

For the worthy
for the worthy
Massively increased enemy health and damage, water replaced with lava, and exploding bunnies are just a few of the things that fans will encounter in this secret world seed.

Celebtration seed
celebrationmk10
The world generation is all medded up, several NPCs are at the start of the game. The Princess sells more items, there is a Jungle Mimic and the drop chance for some of the most rare items are increased.

Item seeds
Too many updates that made these invalid so removed them, let me know of a seed with a rare item in a chest or such.

Don't Starve Together seed
the constant
constant
Hunger mechanic, increased drop rates of the don't starve items, special visual layer including pitch black nights.

The Constant - a Don't Starve themed seed
- Play with Don't Starve-inspired shaders and lighting
- Complete darkness is now dangerous to your health
- Players will need to eat or face hunger and eventual starvation
- A few minor Don't Starve inspired worldgen features
- Has substantially improved drop rates and availablility of Don't Starve related items

GET FIXED BOI - THE ZENITH SEED

You ever wonder what would happen if you took every seed in the game - including the new ones from Labor of Love - mashed them together, and then spent the extra time to playtest this new seed and polish it until it is "just right". Oh, and then for good measure, you tossed in a few features and dynamics unique to that seed?

Wonder no more, for the Zenith Seed is here! We consider this to be the true Magnum Opus of Terraria World Seeds - a version of Terraria that is equal parts unique to play and a whole new level of challenge for the most hardened Terrarians. Take on this seed only if you dare, for it may truly break you - Get Fixed Boi!

DON'T DIG UP - THE REMIX SEED

An idea first discussed during the release of Journey's End, Don't Dig Up turns the world of Terraria upside down - literally! The player will begin their adventure in the depths of the underworld, complete with all new flora to help provide early resources.

As the player ascends into "The Up", however, the threats will magnify exponentially until they reach the Surface - a truly horrifying and inhospitable place that will test the mettle of even the most seasoned Terrarian. Rethink everything you know, but Don't Dig Up unless you are prepared for what comes next!

NO TRAPS - THE NO TRAPS SEED

You know what is the worst? When you are out exploring in the world of Terraria and you get blown up by an explosive trap... or even worse, squashed by a nasty boulder! Well, the team wanted to make a World Seed that was designed with Terrarians who really hate traps in mind.
(Ps. this map has traps everywhere, just sayin)
Know something I don't?
I assume you do.

This guide was mostly made to help ut returning players wrap their heads around new changes. Not to cover every single detail the devs put into this update.

But if you find something or know something that would fit this guide then please write a comment below and I will add that piece of advice/information with your name to the guide.
(but preferably wait until the update is out)
Don't Starve Together Crossover
https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/105600/view/3093403547496230162
https://terraria.fandom.com/wiki/Crossover_content#Don.27t_Starve_Together

Even if the game was "finished" in 2020 we recieved a crossover between Terraria and Don't Starve Together.
Some content was added to Don't Starve and this is what was added to Terraria:

25 new items, among them vanity sets, paintings, pets and weapons.
1 new Boss the Deerclops, a pre-hardmode boss in the ice biome.

Undeluxe edition etc.

The devs also added the support to launch previous versions of the game. They neatly called the first version of the game the undeluxe edition, in case you're feeling nostalgic.
You can find these by going to Properties, then betas.

good news everyone! you can in fact use the research and duplicate powers for quest fish just be sure your not using any filters and catch two of the fish (you need to research two for the dup to work)

When breaking the queen slime summon it actually gives you a 'gelatin crystal' to summon her, you can use this on the hallow surface (it's the only place I've tried you might be able to do it underground as well) and daytime (again, haven't tried night yet)

Thanks guys, stuck enjoying some creative builds and doing another guide about the happiness system atm. I like to think the wiki has it all right but it doesn't make sense to me. Gonna keep messing around with it.

Also now if you defeat the skeletron theres a 1/7 chance to get the item (chippys couch) which is a refrence to the terraria youtuber known as Chippygaming and his livestreaming channel chippy's couch

Why yes, you can play it like normal. But then you're stuck playing your Journey Mode world. You can't go join your friends in a normal world etc.

And you can't take that character to your world where you have a hard time beating a boss without the admin panel.

"Since Journey Characters and Worlds are off limits to other characters this can not be done to bypass the game itself. It's its own thing."

You actually can play Master mode on Journey mode ang get master loot, so yes, you can bypass the game by easier way if you desired. :P

I know the Strange plants don't spawn until hardmode so maybe that. Didn't check it in normal, gotta do it later.

Some people would call Journey's mode cheating, it gives a lot of tools that the normal game doesn't have. hence that Journey mode characters are locked to journey worlds.
So for a classic playthrough I would play any other difficulty.
