How to use DPAD for movement in FF7 (UPDATED)
By monkeyis20high
UPDATE: Thanks to Steam's recent updates and one of the comments bringing this to my attention, entering Big Picture is now not necessary to change the layout. Instead, you can now select your game in your library, and click on "View controller settings" of that specific game and pick the layout that suits you best.

In this guide I'll show you how to activate the D Pad in Final Fantasy VII. Hopefully it will solve the problem some have with the sensitive joystick whilst navigating menus in the game.

Controller configuration
If you want to use the DPAD for the menus and as an alternative for movement (this won't deactivate the joystick) here's what you need to do:

1. Go to Big Picture Mode

2. Go to Library and select "Final Fantasy VII"

3. Click on "Manage Game"

4. Select "Controller Configuration"

5. Select the DPAD option of the controller

6. Click on "Change Style of Input" and select "Joystick"

7. Exit and check if it worked.

The good news is this won't mess with any other controller configuration used in other games. And if you really messed up, you can always reset settings back to default. I hope this guide was helpful.

It works. Didn't have to use Big picture, just right click FF7 from library. Manage, then controller layout.

Thank you for this! There are lots of other "mods" that attempt to do this for you, but using Steam's native services to get the same result is strongly preferred. Tried many mods and most happy/satisfied with this solution right here.
