What is a Mushroom Biome?
A mushroom biome is a biome where you can find a couple of unique items and several different enemies. There is also a NPC that only spawns within the mushroom biome. He's known as the Truffle, and will only spawn in a surface-mushroom biome, not an underground one.
This guide was created to inform you about what you can expect from a mushroom biome, and how to create a surface mushroom biome of your own.
Unique Items
The mushroom biome has a couple of unique items. While only having these two items, one of these items is very important. The items only found in the mushroom biome are:
  • Glowing Mushroom
  • Mushroom Grass Seeds
Not too exciting, right?
Well, Glowing Mushrooms are great crafting materials. These can be used to make a basic set of furniture (crafting station, chair, door, and wall), and can also be placed down to create a nice looking block.
However, these have a better use in potions. There are three potions that you can craft with these. At an Alchemy Station[terraria.gamepedia.com] you can craft a Healing Potion[terraria.gamepedia.com], a Mana Potion[terraria.gamepedia.com], and a Shine Potion[terraria.gamepedia.com]. The Healing and the Mana potions can be very useful for boss fights, and the Shine Potion is great for mining without a light source.
The last function that these Glowing Mushrooms can serve is to create Shroomite Bars[terraria.gamepedia.com]. These can be used to create Shroomite Armor[terraria.gamepedia.com], one of the three best armor sets in the game, and the Hoverboard[terraria.gamepedia.com], a type of "wings" that lets you fly high and glide above the surface.
Moving on to Mushroom Grass Seeds, these let you plant mushroom grass, a grass that has a gives off a bit of light. This can only be spread on mud blocks, but spreads very, very, slowly.
Enemies
There are serveral enemies that can be found in the mushroom biome. They can be very strong to a new player, and deal lots of damage even to a player in full armor. The enemies found here are:
Hardmode Only:
The enemies found here are HARD compared to the other enemies you might find. The Fungo Fish does more damage than some hardmode bosses! None of these enemies have any drops, other than their respective banners. There are two exceptions to this however. The Mushroom Zombie drops the banner for a Spore Zombie, and the Giant Fungi Bulb has no banner. These enemies can be good for getting money, as they drop lots of coins once they are killed.
The Truffle
The Truffle is a NPC that only spawns in this biome. There is one thing to note, and that is that he only spawns in a surface mushroom biome. This means that the naturally spawning biomes that you can find underground will not spawn him. For more information about these surface mushroom biomes, look at the "Creating a Surface Mushroom Biome" section of the guide. Now, let's take a look at the items that the Truffle sells. The items he sells are:
First off, let's talk about the Mushroom Spear. This is the second best spear in the game behind the North Pole[terraria.gamepedia.com]). This item leaves a trail of mushrooms in the path that it is swung, and these can pierce through walls, making it even better than it already is.
Moving on the the Hammush, this is the fifth best hammer in the game (behind the Chlorophyte Warhammer[terraria.gamepedia.com], Chlorophyte Jackhammer[terraria.gamepedia.com], Spectre Hamaxe[terraria.gamepedia.com], and The Axe[terraria.gamepedia.com]). It's better than the Pwnhammer[terraria.gamepedia.com], so it's a good item to buy once you start hardmode.
The Mushroom Cap is a vanity item for the head slot. This means it's just there to make you look cool, and doesn't give you any stat bonus.
The Autohammer is a useful tool for converting Chlorophyte Bars[terraria.gamepedia.com] into Shroomite Bars. These Shroomite Bars can be made into Shroomite Armor, the best armor in the game for ranged characters.
The Strange Glowing Mushroom is an item that summons a little truffle to follow you around. He does not fight, and gives off a small glowing light.
The Dark Blue Solution is a liquid that is used by the Clentaminator[terraria.gamepedia.com]. This turns jungle biome into mushroom biome.
Creating a Surface Mushroom Biome
Creating a surface mushroom biome can be tricky, though it's important for getting the Truffle. Here is a video guide that I made describing how to make one.

This is my first guide that I've made, and will be the first guide in a series, so make sure to comment on which biome you want me to cover next down below.

This guide is in need of some clarity.

There's a superior armor tier above Shroomite, Beetle and Spectre armor - but there's enough boss fights between them and Luminite armor that Shroomite armor is worth building a biome for.

The Autohammer is only sold after Plantera is defeated. Which means Shroomite isn't something you get to use for the Mechanical bosses... or Plantera.

Aside from crafting the Hoverboard and Shroomite armor, the Autohammer can also craft the Shroomite Digging Claw, which has the single fastest mining speed of any pickaxe.
It's only out-classed by higher-tier pickaxes when mining Lizahrd Blocks, a Rapid Snowman Cannon for blowing chunks out of the world, and the Drill Containment Unit for long range and control.

TheDarkLord I'm pretty sure it can be any kind of material for the house, as long as it's in a glowing Mushroom Biome.

By any chance do you know the exact amount of blocks required to build the Mushroom Biome? As I did attempt to make one, but for some reason even after I applied the seeds and the mushroom grass grew, there is still no mushroom biome. Just want to let you know, I am currently in Hardmode (not to be confused with the character difficulty "Hardcore").
