The smart way to create your first party.
I struggled getting started with Wizardry VI and found the character creation a bit confusing.

The first party I made didn't get far into the game before they died when they were eaten by giant rats. I found that I had to go away, search the internet and do quite a bit of reading to discover some of the main factors in creating a good party.

I wanted to share what I learned and write a quick guide to help brand new players start the game with a party that has a chance to live and succeed, so here it is.

When making a character, the Bonus text in blue is an important number. The bonus is the number of extra stats the character will get. This number ranges from 0 - 18. If this number is really low, like 0 or 1 it is almost certainly a good idea to re-roll the same character again.

There are some more prestigious classes in the game that only become available when the bonus number is high. For example a female Human with 12 bonus points can spend 12 bonus points to start as a Valkyrie. There is a Race/Profession chart is included in the game manual on page 14 that lists all the classes and the bonus point costs to select them. (to view the manual navigate to the Wizardry VI Store page on Steam, scroll down and click the view manual link).

Keep in mind that female characters lose 2 points in strength and gain personality and karma instead. I have read that karma is important towards the end of the game but doesn't really have much effect at the start.

After rolling a high bonus number and selecting a class any points left over can be used to increase the starting statistics. Be aware that carrying capacity is set in stone at character creation and can not be improved upon once the game has started.

The strength statistic determines how much a character can carry so it most advisable to raise this statistic if it is low.

Vitality is also important. If vitality is too low, a character might only have 1 hit point. A character with 1 hit point would certainly die instantly if they took damage so try to avoid this.

Once the main statistics are set the dice is rolled again to see how many skill points the character will get. So far I have seen this number range anywhere from 2 to 16

Rolling the same class/race/gender a few times and then picking the best of the bunch is a good place to start. If you want classes that need high bonus roles like Samurai in your party this may take a considerable amount of time. When comparing characters try to choose the ones which have the best HP & Stamina with the highest Karma.

One last tip, as soon as you start the game your party won't have any of their weapons or armor equipped so make sure the first thing you do before moving off is to equip your party.

I hope this guide improves your enjoyment of the game :)

I’m just starting this game I’m having problems making a monk, can anyone help me on how to do this. Cause my opinion on the screen doesn’t show monk, it shows human, elf, dwarf, gnome, hobbit, faerie, lizardman, dracon, felpurr, rawulf, and monk. So I am kind of lost. Thank you in advance

For karma if I remember it right
Karma affects you interactions with NPCs
There are some NPCs which react better for low karma and some which react better for high, so theoreticaly you want to have one low karma character.
THere is way to rise karma stat for Females (glass slippers) and Samurais ( Mempo of Death) both can be theoreticaly farmed if you want, there is easier methods to rise karma in VII

@Frission Race affects starting stats (before bonus roll), so it affects available classes in that way. Also, Lizardman regenerates mana less well, while Faerie regenerates mana faster.

Thumbs up, but might I make a few suggestions? Str makes 9 CC/point, Vit 4.5/point. However, Vit increases HP/level and at start. Furthermore, 16+ Vit gives +1 MP regen. As a result, Vit is the most important stat. I'm now at Styx and my party hasn't had one character fall playing straight through on expert, no resets, except Quit/NoSave on doors/chests. Also, Val > Lor >> Fig. This is because val is easy to qualify for and thus get 16+vit, furthermore, she has high spe+dex, which allows her to dual wield and double strike with high probability as soon as she breaks 51 skill in spear. Thus, she completely annihilates the monsters, because she attacks 4+ times early and this goes up and up. Val/Lor are some of the best, because monsters do mass crowd control, which requires many characters to recover. Furthermore, undead and demons are annoying and each val can wipes the entire group before it acts. Similarly, they can cast silence on spell casters.

Does the race have an impact on the bonus rolls or available classes?

I usually make the first 3 characters into fighters for the first 3 levels and pump everything into their sword skill. At level 3 I then change them to whatever class they were intended to be.

Also, do not go up or down stairs until the party is level 3 will also make it easier as well.

A solid guide, as if written in stone by Dwarves.

I play first rolled only - Have A Dwarf Fighter Male - Dragon Fighter Female -
Elf Ranger Female-- Gnome Priest Female - Hobbit Theif Female - Elf Mage Female -- Lowest I rolled was 6

All is going well so far but still in beginning and this is first time playing wiz 6 --I suggest playing it -- You will get over the graphics after 15 mins playing -- Its just like any other dungeon game --its the tactics that make it ultimatley interesting-- I mean look at the game of chess --all kinds of companies have tried to pretty that up but chess is chess

I do say --- This old school mapping takes sooo much time ( As you get older time is so much more valuable than money lol) but self mapping does suck you into the game more and get your mind working. Just feel my old middle school nerd vibes coming back as I map lol.

I'm rolling all 26 bonus point characters.
2 valks, 1 sam, 1 bard (my lullaby theif) 1 priest, and 1 mage.
