Wilson is a reference to the Movie Castaway with Tom Hanks, in which Tom Hanks cuts hit hand, and touches a volley ball. he then draws a face on the ball and talks to it, naming it Wilson.

towards the climax of the movie, Wilson is lost to the sea and Tom Hanks' character begins crying out its name in the iconic scene.
