There have been some alterations between the HD version and the originals, such as rebalancing the minigun (lower firerate; higher damage), removing some of the original 'gravity rooms' in The Second Encounter (engine changes), and limiting the strength of rocket jumping. But almost all of these changes are engine related, not gameplay related.
In regards to your screenshot's secret, it isn't an oversight by Croteam that you can't rocket jump up there - although you could in the original - but instead a hard-to-see platforming puzzle. If you weren't aware of the solution, look carefully beneath the forelegs of the lion to the left, there is a small platform extending out of the wall. There are several in the same immediate area for you to jump between which will let you reach the secret.
Alternatively, if you're a risk taker, you can boost off of a werebull while simultaneously rocket jumping, and that can send you flying high.
In Second Encounter HD's 'Persepolis - Courtyards of Gilgamesh' level I wondered how I was not able to rocket jump to the top of the pillars in the corridor (
screenshot [portforward.com]), one secret was also up there.
Is this still true, or has Croteam reverted the alterations? In my opinion the gameplay should have stayed identical, only graphical improvements are of use. I don't know if any unambiguous bugs were fixed in the HD versions.
