Can someone explain in more detail what the numbers, as in units, for 6-8 mean?
For instance "7) This alters the generated amount of cargo. It is clamped between 0 and 1.000.000. 0 disables all cargo traffic generated by this connection."
For instance default cargo value for a road is 20. But what does 20 cargo mean? Is it 20 trucks? 20 units of goods? 20 buildings? Or is it some abstract multiplier? Etc...

Use More Shortcuts mod to setup Shift+Ctrl+A to have the Outside Connection menu automatically opened. To set up Shift+Ctrl+A just drag the mouse to the button and hold ALT and click on it to create a shortcut.
You will love it.
The fact that it does not need to appear there.
Please go to the menu (top left corner) and click on the Outside Connection button (that grey one) and the panel of Advanced Outside Connection appears: https://ibb.co/kGkx4zD
Duplicate name is a known issue for me since the counting is up to your connection-making. Just rename the connection after you have identified it.
It is risky to delete an outside connection with move it, use the vanilla bulldozer to make sure that the game is updated about the closed connection.
The recent DLCs were not affecting the outside connection mechanism, so AdvancedOutsideConnection should work, as expected.
