Kangaroo Court

Beschreibung
Welcome to Kangaroo Court
A card game about improvisation and keeping your story straight. This game has it all: action, romance, and a murder most foul; or maybe just not recycling. With the cards as your props, you must use your wits to tell a story to get out of a corner or put somebody in the hot seat.

Features — Arguing for fun! Turning the tables! And most importantly, coming up with a comeback after your turn has passed. The true crime was the friends we made along the way.

About the Game
Ages 13+
4-8+ players
20-30 minute playtime

Rules
Rules are also accessible from the in-game notebook.

How to Play
Setup
Each player takes one (1) Guilty and one (1) Innocent Verdict card. Extra Verdict cards will be used as a tiebreaker in the event of a hung jury. Remove Juror cards from the Roles deck until there is one (1) card per player left.

Designate a player as the Prosecutor. Use any method you’d like to determine this: Role cards, tallest, youngest, least experience as a lawyer, etc. After each round, the player to the left of the current Prosecutor becomes the new Prosecutor. Use the Prosecutor Role card to keep track.

Shuffle all decks (or don't, I'm not your real dad).

Round Structure
Each round starts with all non-Prosecutor players drawing a Role card.

Once roles have been determined, the Prosecutor reveals one (1) Crime card and accuses the Defendant. The Prosecutor then lays out four (4) Evidence cards face-up on the table. The Prosecutor and Defendant each draw three (3) Modifier cards into their hand.

Drama Phase
A turn of the Drama Phase consists of an Attorney playing one (1) Modifier card from their hand on an unmodified Evidence card to describe how this supports their case. As an example, for the crime of “Robbing a Casino,” one might play “Bags of...” on “Money;” explaining that this evidence was found on the Defendant mere blocks away from the Casino. Embellish. Be dramatic. Have fun with it!

The Drama Phase begins with the Prosecutor playing once, followed by the Defendant playing twice, and finally the Prosecutor plays once more.

Deliberation Phase
Once all Evidence cards have been used, Juror players may begin their deliberation. Who was most convincing? Who gave the best performance? Enter your verdict by playing your Verdict cards face-down on the table. Once all verdicts are in, tally the results. In the event of a hung jury, draw a card from the extra Verdict cards to determine the winner.

In the event of a Guilty verdict, the Prosecutor takes the Crime card as a point; an Innocent verdict goes to the Defendant.

After a verdict is rendered, Jurors should reclaim their Verdict cards, revealed Evidence and Modifier cards should be discarded, and Attorneys should discard any remaining Modifier cards in their hands.

Victory Conditions
There aren’t any. I guess you could count Crime cards, if you’re into that kind of thing.

Optional Rules
Handy — All players maintain a hand of five (5) Modifier cards that are replenished at the end of each round. Plan your next great epic, or dread your next turn.

J’accuse — Instead of determining the Defendant and Jurors with Role cards, the Prosecutor may choose who stands accused.

Proclivity for Prolixity — Attorneys may use up to two (2) Modifier cards on a single Evidence card. These Modifiers must be played as part of the same turn.

Objection! — Once per round, on their turn, an Attorney may discard one (1) Evidence card and reveal a new one in its place. The Attorney must then play a Modifier on the revealed card. No take-backs.

Hi! The rules are available in the in-game notebook. I've also added them to the description.
