They basically act as a standby police batallion ready to respond around the clock.
But that's really only a distinction made by the super-nerds. In practical usage, "AK" means AK platform, while "the AK-47" is the original production line of Type I, II, and III milled AKs manufactured before the AKM.

The BSB is part of the Koninklijke Marrechaussee (We have the army, CLAS, navy, CZSK, Airforce, CLSK and the Koninklijke Marrechausse, KMar). The BSB their main job is securing vip's, politicians etc. They do this in the Netherlands in times of peace, but also at places like Afghanistan (in the past).
The unit more focused on CT would be the 'uim' (Unit Interventie Mariniers, part of the Dutch Royal Navy).
