Squad Roles for Coordinated Milsim Play
By The Brr
This is a brief overview of some squad roles that can be utilized in private co-op play for a more team-oriented experience. These roles give everybody different loadouts and responsibilities to promote teamwork.

This guide will not be covering the hierarchy of power for those who are into that.

Everything here is based on Extreme difficulty with no HUD but it will work for lower difficulties as well.

----- Loud and Stealth -----
Team Leader
This role puts you in charge of the squad. You can respectfully boss people around, formulate or approve plans, and call in rebel support. This role is essential for any coordinated team, and should be given to the player with the most experience.
Loadout:
  • Any assault rifle (many games give this role a grenade launcher. In this guide, that goes to the grenadier for balancing reasons).
  • "Super Shorty", "Spas-12", "RevSG-12", "M4 Super 90", or Unmodified "MP7".
  • Any pistol of your choice.
  • Grenades, and Flare Gun.

Useful during loud and stealth play.
Rifleman
This role makes you the grunt of the squad. You only get a gun and no special roles.
Loadout:
  • Any assault rifle of your choice with no grenade launcher.
  • Any submachine gun of your choice or the "Super Shorty" / Unmodified "MP7".
  • Any pistol of your choice.
  • Grenades.

Useful during loud and stealth play.
Automatic Rifleman
Do you like big guns? If you do, this role is for you. Armed with a light machine gun and a high capacity magazine, you are the master of suppressive fire and mowing down large groups of enemies.
Loadout:
  • Any light machine gun of your choice.
  • "Super Shorty" shotgun or Unmodified "MP7".
  • Any pistol of your choice.

Useful during loud play.
Sniper
This is the most common role you most find in public sessions. You are positioned 400-600+ meters away from the enemies with a bolt action rifle. Make your shots count.

In this role, you should prioritize targets since you have limited ammo compared to the other roles. Heavies, snipers, and veterans are the highest priority.
Loadout:
  • Any bolt-action rifle of your choice: <"M40A5", "M1891", "SRSA1", "SR-1", "HTI", "L115A3", "MSR", "R93 LRS2", "TAC-50", "BFG-50A", "FRF-2", "Z93-AMR", and "KSVK">.
  • Any submachine gun of your choice.
  • Any pistol of your choice.
  • Proximity Mines.

Useful during loud and stealth play.
Marksman
"Isn't this the same thing as sniper?" No, no it's not. Instead of being positioned at long range with a bolt action rifle, you operate at medium range with a semi-auto sniper rifle. The recommended range is around 300-400 meters, but there can be exceptions.

Your priority targets should be the same as the sniper's.
Loadout:
  • Any semi-auto rifle of your choice: <"SR25", "Dragunov", "G28", "PSG-1", "M110", and "MK14">.
  • Any submachine gun of your choice.
  • Any pistol of your choice.
  • Proximity Mines.

Useful during loud and stealth play.
Drone Operator
A drone operator's main goal is to sit on their drone and provide support from above. They have the ability to recon the area from above, and destroy key targets with EMP or Explosive drones.
Loadout:
  • Any submachine gun of your choice for defense.
  • "Super Shorty" or Unmodified "MP7".
  • Proximity Mines.

Useful during loud and stealth play.
----- Loud -----
Grenadier / Demolitions
You get to blow things up. Enough said. Your main targets should be vehicles and large groups of enemy infantry.
Loadout:
  • Any assault rifle with a grenade launcher (anything except the FAL and F2000)
  • "Super Shorty" shotgun, or Unmodified "MP7".
  • Any pistol of your choice.
  • C4, Mines, and Grenades.

Useful during loud play.
Breacher
Breachers excel in close quarters. Armed with a shotgun, they are able to make quick work of a flashbanged room. In the event of a building breach, the breacher should go in first.
Loadout:
  • Any shotgun of your choic.
  • "Super Shorty" to simulate one weapon (unless you want to use two shotguns). Alternatively, use an Unmodified "MP7".
  • Any pistol of your choice.
  • Flashbangs.

Suggested by scooperdive.

Useful during loud play.
Medic
As a medic, you are a very valuable part of your team, but you often go unappreciated. Your role is to provide medical assistance to downed team members.

Your squad can decide whether or not they want to only let the medic be able to revive, give them the medical drone, or neither. If you don't want to restrict the ability to revive teammates, you can ignore this role.
Loadout:
  • Any assault rifle of your choice with no grenade launcher.
  • Any submachine gun of your choice, or "Super Shorty" shotgun.
  • Any pistol of your choice.
  • Medic Drone (if agreed on by rest of squad).

Useful during loud play.
Pilot
As the name suggests, this role is the designated pilot for the team. Your job is to safely insert and extract the squad, along with providing close air support if needed. Note that picking this role reduces the ground team count to 3 members.

I am working on a helicopter guide with this specific role in mind, so stay tuned.
Loadout:
  • Any small submachine gun.
  • "Super Shorty" shotgun or Unmodified "MP7" to simulate only one weapon. (Credit to SpiritWolf G_G for suggesting the use of the unmodified MP7)
  • Any pistol of your choice.

Useful during loud play.
----- Stealth -----
Infiltrator
All of these roles can operate in stealth, but most operate better during loud gameplay. If you prefer stealth having its own class, the infiltrator comes into play. Infiltrators carry a light loadout - just enough to help them get into and out of the objective. Their usefulness wears off once the lead starts flying though.
Loadout:
  • Any submachine gun of your choice with suppressor.
  • "Super Shorty" or Unmodified "MP7". to simulate one primary.
  • Any pistol of your choice.
  • Diversion lures, and C4.
  • Noisemaker drone.

Suggested by scooperdive.

Useful during stealth play.

Ideas II:

Demoman II
If decided upon by team, this dude may get exclusive access to the Mines and C4.

Any LMG
Any shotgun
Any pistol

Radioman
This dude is a rifleman with a walkie-talkie. He (if decided upon by team) gets exclusive access to flares and lures. He is the one to call in Rebel support. This is because while the team leader calls the shots, someone has to call em in (and it’s usually not him.) It also add a bit of realism, and depending on if you are any good at communication, either a challenge or takes a little stress off of the team lead. May work in conj. or as the drone op.

Any SMG (simulated one weap.)
Any pistol.

Adaptive rifleman. (names a little iffy)
A combo of Marksman and Rifleman. Inspired by Chris Kyle’s account of Fallujah, where he at one point gave his sniper rifle to a marine in a trade for his M16.

Any assault rifle, no grenade launcher. Laser, foregrip, sight of choice and Comp. recommended.
Any marksman-class rifle. Minimal modifications, except for Suppresor and scopes.
Any pistol (except Deagle)
