Start a new game
This is just a small guide about starting a completely new game. When working on another guide, I needed to start a new game for a particular episode, because I couldn’t find items or collectibles.

However, by using the menu option to start a new game or continue a game for each episode, I encountered a few problems:
  • Collectible items will not be reset; once found these can’t be found again
  • It’s impossible to continue your play in episode 2; you will always end up in the last scene of this episode, where Jane is crossing the rope bridge, and it’s impossible to return to a previous scene
  • In at least episode 5 a bug may prevent you from continuing the game after the Blue Grotto scenes

NOTE: The bug in episode 5 is not a bug, but may be game intentional. In the Blue Grotto you have to find a gold and silver sphere which have to be placed in the gold and silver bowl on the altar. After placing the second sphere do NOT zoom out of the scene, but instead select the bowl in the middle. This will put the orb in that bowl and will then be recharged.

I started to look for the save files, in order to delete or hide a save file from the game. Many games, at least those that I play, store save files either in the Documents/my games/<game> folder or a sub folder in the Program Files (x86)/Steam/SteamApps/common/<game> folder. However, not with Adera. The Adera save files are stored in

/Users/<accountname>/AppData/LocalLow/HitPoint Inc/Adera

and this folder can only be seen when hidden folders are made visible. For Windows 10 open File Explorer, select the View tab and check Hidden Items. Now you will be able to find the save files in that folder, named:
  • saveStateEpisode1.dat
  • saveStateEpisode2.dat
  • saveStateEpisode3.dat
  • saveStateEpisode4.dat
  • saveStateEpisode5.dat
  • saveStateMeta.dat
The first five files are, ofcourse, used to store episode data, the last file is used to store data about found collectibles. If you don’t want to delete those files, make a backup copy or prefix the files with an underscore or any other acceptable character.

Upon restarting the game it seems like the game wants to continue the game where you left of the last time. Just select another episode, preferably the first and choose New Game, and you will be fine.

Hello, may I ask when the subsequent chapters of the game will be released

If you didn't even finish it, well, that says it all. Thanks Altbert.:WhiteDoorRobin:

In my case, I never return a game even if I'm disappointed. But, most of those games were on sale for a few bucks. Yes, I like this game, but I don't really like the last chapter, which I've avoided sofar, and so I've never finished it. One game I really liked is Submerged, although it's 3rd person and a platformer.

You seem to like this game, would you recommend it? I have a very long wish list and not much money at the moment but I'd like to know if it's a good game since you know I like Eastshade, a lot:) Pesky suggested trying out a game for an hour and returning it if you don't like it. Is that a common practise?
