Understanding How XP Works in DbD
For the first part of the guide we must first understand how leveling and xp works in DbD as both these correlate to iridescent shards
  • xp is gained two ways time in a trial and emblems earned in the trial

  • you gain xp at a rate of 1 xp per second this is capped at 10 minutes for a total of 600 xp for the time

  • xp is also gained for each emblem you earn 18 xp for iridescent 12 xp for gold 6 xp for silver and 0 xp for bronze or none

  • So in a theoretical perfect game 4 iridescent emblems 10 minute match 672 xp

  • Accounting for queue times which range greatly from many different factors such as rank/time zone/servers/ect we will say the average wait for a game is 5 minutes putting our total xp gain at 672 xp per 15 minutes
Now Doing Some Basic Math
You earn an average of ~0.072 Iridescent Shards per Experience Point
  • This number is taken from the official DbD gamepedia page so let us plug in our perfect game which clocked in at 672 xp for 15 minutes of work

  • 0.072*672=48.816 we will be generous and take that to 50 for simplicity sake
So How Much Does a Perk/Killer/Survivor Cost Time Wise?
Great question we can easily figure that out by doing some quick math
  • Killers and Survivors cost 9,000 shards and so we will divide that by 50 to see how much 100% perfect games are needed which comes out to 180 perfect games each perfect game is 15 minutes so in total you need 2,700 minutes or 45 hours of in game time to earn a Killer/Survivor.

  • Now about perks you need 2000 Shards we will plug in the same numbers we used to solve for Survivors/Killers cost and we come out to 10 hours.
Wrapping Things Up
While the numbers in this guide account for perfect games we live in a imperfect world so all approximations in this guide or on the higher end of the scale versus real world application and should be taken as best case scenario.
