Fixing "Unhandled exception caught" Error [Steam]
由 maximzom 制作
I will try to help with a solution to a problem that has caused some (probably most) users who have encountered the "Unhandled exception caught" error.

• A little clarification •
  • At the beginning of 2020, after the winter holidays, I ran into a problem which prevented me from logging into the game for a long time. You know the name of this problem by now, you can read the title. However, both then and now, I still don't understand what this error is, how it works, and what it wants me to do.

  • After a few dozen of trials, errors, and installations of separate software, I did not achieve the proper result. It eventually got to the point where I had to reinstall not only all of Steam, but all of Windows as a whole (From which I was only a few steps away).

  • But, one day, after a response to my post on the Plutonium forum, another solution was found that fixed the problem, and gave me an indescribable happiness, after long sleepless nights. Thanks in advance to the administration, or to the regular Plutonium forum users who helped me.

ㅤㅤㅤㅤ • A direct link to my problem in the Plutonium forum.[forum.plutonium.pw]

• The first solution to this problem •
  • I had not really expected the problem to be so simple, and yet, so unexpected:

Disabling, or removing programs that affect the game's overlay.
  • Simple, because you can just turn it off. Unexpected, because it can be in so many unexpected programs. This gave me some useful advice to permanently remove programs like RivaTurner, or MSI Afterburner.

  • This, by the way, also applies to programs like Discord, which was not particularly critical, because I don't use it at all. I don't think there will be any problems with the latter. Just double-check that you don't have "In-game overlay" checked.

• The second solution to this problem •
  • If you reinstall the above programs, the problem may occur that the error will return again. If this has actually happened:

Try reinstalling Black Ops II completely, for best effect.
  • By the way, after installing the game, recheck the integrity of the files and perform the first step again. I know it's unbearable, but it's necessary so that this problem doesn't happen again at all.

• Additional section •
  • The guide has been rewritten more than once, and I will most likely redo it again, since there is critically little information about it. If there will be any additions to this guide, or dramatic changes - I'll let you know about it.

  • Still, I don't want to engage in advertising, but still. If you want to go back to the multiplayer, or zombie mode - do it through the launcher Plutonium. On their servers is most pleasant to play, and the flow of players still is. Perhaps we'll even meet there.

  • For more questions, please contact me on Discord. Data is in my Steam profile. I can answer when I am free, or have free time. I don't bite, so you can talk as usual.

• Result •
  • I've told you everything I know about this mistake and its solution. I wish everyone a good and wonderful mood. Likewise, I hope you'll be okay. You can check out the other guides, maybe you'll find something. And I'm ending this guide, on that note. No farewell.

"Beastly~". Oh. Well, that's very good news. Glad you were able to fix this problem.

"maxizom" I FIXED IT SOME HOW!!!!
you can add this to this guide if you wish,
but while messing with my audio sources instead of just swapping to them, I DISABLED THEM, not just audio output but input as well, I started with low priority things first,
ex. webcam, no longer used audio drivers, display outputs and it worked
i havent narrowed down which cause the problem directly but this seemed to be my fix, an audio driver issue

"Beastly~", I would still ask for libraries from 2005 through 2022 to be installed.

"maximzom" oh... for that its only 2010
gave the audio source a few different swaps including disabling and enabling everything but my headphones and nothing worked

"Beastly~". I meant C++ libraries. Even old and new. When you're done with the audio, let me know, please.

"maximzom" the years for DirectX are 2005-2010
I'll give the audio source swap a try with something like my monitor or VR headset

"Beastly~". I guess I figured out why they're gone. Most likely, they appear already during the launch of the game itself, or during missions. Changing the audio device literally, through Windows settings. For it can be that in a conditional computer there are two audio signals, transmitting directly sound. Maybe that's the problem too, but I'm not sure yet. Regarding DirectX and C++, sorry to hear. But I would like to clarify, what years did you use the libraries for the installation?

"maximzom" so I had a few questions about this
1. I don't see the hardware.## file in the directed folder, and it doesnt get added on reinstall or file verify, so i dont know whats happening there, might actually be the root cause of my problems if im honest
2. What do you mean by "change audio device"? Like just change where my audio comes from?

I've tried reinstalling both Direct X and C++ packages multiple times with no result, but I'll keep trying to see if it works

"Beastly~", Maybe it won't help, and maybe it will do some good. But, for now, I can't think of anything beyond these options. I should spend more time on this manual to fix the problem once and for all.
