Save Files/Downloading New Ships

A brief guide to Gimbals save files (Ship Blueprints, Player Profile/Rank) and where/how to download new ship blueprints.

Ship Blueprints

In Gimbal each ship you create is an individual file. Your ship blueprints are located in the hanger folder which is also where you will save new designs you find.

If you have installed the game to the default location you'll have to locate Gimbal through your Steam folder. For many that will be C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Gimbal\Hangar or something very similar.

Once you have found the folder you'll notice the save files are actually .png images. Here are two ships for example.



The ship build data is coded into the image itself. As you can see the image displays the ship, its name and the build cost. If you do not have the required budget for a downloaded ship you simply cannot use it until you have gained a sufficient amount.

Downloading and Saving New Ships

There are two places to find new ships. The first would be the official forums hanger section[www.gimbalgame.com].

The second place you can find new ships would be the Artwork section of gimbals community hub. Since the save files are images you are able to upload your designs directly through steam. It's a makeshift Steam Workshop for ship designs. I have uploaded a sample ship to the Artwork section for testing.

How to save images from steam:
• To save the png from Steam you must right click on the expanded (full sized) image and "Copy Link Address".
  
• Open up your preferred web browser and paste/navigate to the link you just copied.
  
• Save that .png to your hanger folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Gimbal\Hangar or something similar).

Note: The save name must be the same name as displayed in the image. You can always change the name in game in the hanger if you wish.

Player Profile/Rank

Player Profile/Rank: There isn't really a specific player save file, your rank/budget info is instead stored in an xml file located in the Gimbal folder. If you have reinstalled the game and wish to restore your max rank (or simply don't want to go through the leveling process) open up ClientOptions.xml with a text editor and search for "money". You can edit that value between the range of 0-6000. Save the file and restart Gimbal.
