Index All Tsukumogami

The only hard part about this achievement is that it takes time and patience. The encounters are random so getting the last few rare spirits can take a while. Also, if you retreat from combat, the spirit can change to something else once you re-engage. This way you can keep trying for the spirit you're searching for without moving.
Skeleton King
Skeleton King
Vanquish all Great Monsters that Roam the Land

This achievement is gained for beating all the bosses in the game.

There are 4 bosses. A Spider (lvl 30), a Centipede (lvl 40), a Shuran Oni (lvl 45) and a Skeleton (lvl 50).

I suggest using a Katana for the weapon gem slot and then using Tsukumogami that have persistent bonuses for only one turn used.

Simply Ravenous
Simply Ravenous
For Big Eaters

This achievement is gained for eating at the restaurant when your Hunger attribute is at 100%.

No Stone Unturned
No Stone Unturned
Find All Stone Statues in a Single Playthrough

For those who have not yet been introduced to the Stone Statues, they are random boons given when you pass over tiles that have hidden statues.

The achievement description is vague but to my understanding, there are an infinite number of Stone Statues. What the achievement is asking of you is to find all the types of statues.

Just to give some examples, stone statues can:
  • heal HP
  • give money
  • repair your weapon
  • reduce your hunger

Stone Statue locations are randomized.

Show Proof of Mastering the Use of Gems

To show proof of mastery, you need to take into account Komiya's advice regarding gems. At one point, it is explained that proper placement of a captured Tsukumogami will yield benefits to the captor. In order to achieve this, you need to first know which attribute is associated with each gem.

According to the 'How to Play' section of the game...
  • Gem 1 = Speed
  • Gem 2 = Heal
  • Gem 3 = Defense
  • Gem 4 = Divine
  • Gem 5 = Attack

Furthermore, capturing the Tsukumogami in the correct order will help you obtain this achievement. To put it simply, your first capture is last and your last capture is first.

As an example, I captured the following Tsukumogami on my team in this particular order:
**First to Last

  • Naginata
  • Beads
  • Jacket
  • Bowl
  • Top

This placed each Tsukumogami in the correct placement. If you follow the same order, the achievement will unlock once you check your Spirit list/window.
No Rest for the Wicked
No Rest for the Wicked
Wake up Dozing Hanabusa

During free-roam in the town/field map, Hanabusa will doze off if you idle. This will be indicated by Hanabusa's portrait at the bottom left of the screen. She will enter a sleeping animation as shown in the the image below.

Gone in Sixty Seconds
Gone in Sixty Seconds
"Acquire" a Mystical Item

The mystical item in question is called the Seed of Strength. It can be sold for a high price or be consumed to gain one level.

The method of acquisition is through Tsukumogami steal skills. I recommend using a Dustpan (2/3 chance to steal) and emptying out your inventory before starting.
Tsukumogami Trainer
Tsukumogami Trainer
Master a Tsukumogami

You can only master a Tsukumogami after unsealing Izumo. Doing so unlocks the Yang skills and therefore allows you to master all of a Tsukumogami's abilities by winning with them in combat.

The image below shows a mastered Tsukumogami. Note the Yin & Yang abilities acquired on the bottom left.

Blessed by Spirits
Blessed by Spirits
Receive the Spirits' Blessing

This achievement is obtained by obtaining the armor to unlock the alternate ending.

In order to get the armor, you need to:
  • get Soujun to talk about Rouran before chapter 9
  • index all Tsukumogami
  • destroy all skulls (only up to the Tavern District if you already have 100% of the index)
  • did not sacrifice/kill anyone
  • have not yet fought Souzen in chapter 11

If indexing spirits was your last task to do, you'll get the armor after the last spirit. If not, just run into a random encounter to get the armor.

Can Take a Hint
Can Take a Hint
Maximum Utility, No Nonsense

This achievement is gained by upgrading the INFO gem stat on each gem.

You can upgrade gems once you save Tamagami but you can only upgrade all 5 once you have at least saved Izumo.
Curious Soul

Learn All You Can Before Setting Out

When you first encounter Heian Capital, you will be introduced to events. Green indicates NPC functions such as the market and the blacksmith. Blue is for scripted dialogue which sometimes shows you battle mechanics or a scene between some of the NPCs. Yellow is for campaign events that progress the story.

Before you embark on your first quest, interact with all the blue and green events to learn as much as you can. This should trigger the achievement.
Woodsman
Woodsman
Vanquish a Great Monster

This achievement is obtained by defeating the boss in Tamagami Shrine. It looks like a red mist and it is blocking one of the two side paths in the map.

Telepath
Telepath
Identify an Enemy Without Any Hints

I strongly recommend doing this as early as you can just to get it out of the way. With a bit of guesswork and dutiful maintenance of your defense, this achievement becomes trivial.

If you do plan to do it early on in the first possible area, I recommend using the Seranth's Spirit Index guide.

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=196620390

Personally, I used his guide because at the time I didn't have the first in-game Spirit Index given near the beginning of the game. Either way, it only takes a bit of patience and/or luck to get it right. Just keep your guesses accurate by only typing in the names of Tsukumogami found in that area (Spirit by Location in Seranth's guide).

Just to throw some thoughts out there, one way to get Telepath without hoping you guess correctly during random battles or using a guide would be to get them during boss battles. Most bosses stay the same and there are some cases where you will fight the same boss again and their form does not change. (ie. Rouran). In such cases, you can probably guess the form without any hints.

Thanks for the awesome tip Cybolt!

For Those Who Saw It All

Originally posted by ultramage:
Regarding "For Those Who Saw It All", the guide puts too much emphasis on the Deva/Asura paths. The three endings are: possessed by the GoC, killing the GoC, capturing the GoC.
To get the possession ending, choose to give up before the GoC fight. Alternatively, if you're doing the Asura path, the GoC will point it out and then possess you unconditionally.
To get the kill ending, choose to fight the GoC and kill it. No special conditions required.
To get the capture ending, use Soul Discard on the GoC while wearing the blessed armor. This means fulfilling whatever requirements that has. I suspect Deva is not really required.

Originally posted by h4:
Can you update the 99 spirits achievement, to indicate that for the neutral ending, it is critical to not have the blessed by spirits armor. With the armor on, even if you made mixed choices, the god of change has super healing powers and you cannot kill him.

This is obtained for seeing 'everything'. Unfortunately, seeing all endings does not mean seeing everything. The achievement is actually tied to the choices you make in the game.

There are 2 extreme paths you can take and they both have achievements.

One is Asura:

Asura
Walk the Path of Asura

It's gained for picking the crueler option on all 4 decision points.

The other one is Deva:

Deva
Walk a Tranquil Path

It's gained for doing everything opposite of the Asura path.

The final choice is somewhere down the middle where you choose to save some but not everyone. There is no achievement tied to this but it is one of the requirements for the 99 Spirits achievement.

SPOILER WARNING:

I managed to do this achievement in 2 playthroughs. My first playthrough was purely for the Asura path.

On my second playthrough, I worked on getting the armor. I made a save file right before Souzen and right before completing all the conditions for the armor.

In the save file where I got the armor, I picked all the Deva/kindness options. After beating the game, I created a 3rd playthrough save file.

After that, I loaded the save file without the armor and chose to sacrifice Hidetada to break my kindness streak and unlock the last condition for the 99 spirits achievement.

I just thought I should post this information in case someone would like to save time in gaining this achievement.
Fortune Achievements (2)
Merchant
Amass a Fortune of 20.000

Poster Girl
Amass a Fortune of 100.000

These achievements are gained just by thoroughly going through the game. It counts how much you have saved up over your character's lifetime rather than counting your current gold at hand. If you plan to grind out Tsukumogami experience to unlock skills, you'll definitely earn enough money near the end.
Level Up Achievements (5)
There are 5 tiers for this category. One achievement per 10 levels gained.

New Game+ lets you keep your character's level.

Veteran

Dialogue Achievements (3)
The following achievements are gained for going through certain optional dialogue in the game.

These are all very easy achievements but at the same time, they are easy to miss if you do not talk to the Merchant and the Monk after each chapter. For these two, you first have to exhaust all their dialogue events before the achievements are unlocked.

To get Shrine Maiden, you first have to save Hisame. After that's done, just talk to him through Tamagami Shrine (there is an option to talk to each god).

Gambling Achievements (2)

Win 500 in a Single Gamble

The gambler will only become available after you unseal Izumo.

Personally I couldn't keep up with the timing of the dice. I figured I would have more success in getting double/triple matching numbers if I did clicks in equal intervals. I managed to get a streak all the way to 540g by doing 3 equally-timed clicks within 1 second. I hope this helps!

To the End!
For Those Who Reached the End
Bone Collector & Those Who Hunt Skulls
Bone Collector
Free an Area from Evil Influence

Evil Influence refers to Cursing Skulls. They can found all over the area outside Heian Capital. You'll be able to get the side quest from the monk after progressing the story a bit.

Freeing an entire area means clearing one of the maps of skulls (e.g. Tamagami Shrine). Hanabusa will mention something (dialogue) once the area is skull-free.

Those Who Hunt Skulls
Free the World from Evil Influence

You'll get this for clearing all the maps of skulls. You'll have to talk to Soujun to trigger the achievement.

Note:
  • Some skulls are hidden behind side paths blocked by trees. You will need a weapon Tsukumogami to cut them down.
  • In order to destroy a skull, you need a divine and a weapon Tsukumogami.
  • Skulls appear as a shadow on a cell (see images below).

Immovable Object
Immovable Object
Win a Battle Without Missing a Single Counter

This is one of the easiest achievements to obtain. Much easier to do at an early point in the game.

For those who have yet to play: When an enemy attacks you, you have a small window of opportunity to defend. After a successful defense, there's an even smaller window to counter. Obviously the shorter the battle is, the easier it is to obtain the achievement.

This achievement is obtained for successfully fleeing from battle.

Self-explanatory achievement. It goes even faster if you use the button to sell all miscellaneous items regularly.
Sore Feet

Travel 5000 Steps

Self-explanatory. You'll get this while doing all the extra content (skulls/index completion/shrines).

So I spent dozens of hours going after 99 Spirits, trying out almost every possible combination - kill with all Deva/mixed choices, capture with all Deva/mixed choices, get possessed by all Asura/fleeing.

In light of this, I've come to the conclusion that regarding For Those Who Saw It All, getting 3 endings through kill/capture/get possess is not enough, you need to do it in specific ways:

1. Get possessed by choosing No when prompted to fight GoC
2. Kill after choosing mixed choices, without the armor
3. Capture after choosing all Deva choices, with the armor

that or, in the literal sense of "Saw It All", do everything like me, though I kind of doubt that the devs would be this cruel.

am I screwed for the deva path if I saved the main town's healer, but killed the shogun's wife?

Well, I made this, destroyed all the skulls in all areas, came to Soujun, he gave me congrats, and... nothing. Achievement has not been triggered.

I just tried to do the normal ending by saving the last person but not the others, and you're STILL shunted into the bad ending. Really annoying! I'm hoping that my save before the second to last person will work.

It would seem I can now answer my own question. It seems that regardless of whether you already have 100% of the index, you must destroy all the skulls in order to get the armor, not just through the Tavern District, contrary to what is said in the guide.
n01 Jul 13, 2014 @ 12:19pm
Can anybody clarify on when I should expect to get the armor? I've completed all the criteria listed here and am partway through Chapter 10 on a third playthrough but it still hasn't shown up.
