1 - Fixing launching Issues
First - We need to fix the game compatibility to be able to launch it properly.

Before we start make sure that:
- Your game installation is CLEAN. (Uninstall and delete any files left then reinstall with Steam)
- Disable any compatibility mode you made with "DMCR.EXE"

How do we do this?
- Download this file -> GL_2.20.7[drive.google.com]
(Source : https://verokster.blogspot.com/)

- Then place this file "dplayx.dll" in your Cossacks main directory, which should be by default:
"\Steam\steamapps\common\Cossacks European Wars"

- Now the game should launch in a window mode, don't worry it's normal.

- Now on the left upper corner, click on "Windows" and then "Full Screen" OR you can just press "ALT+W" and the game should get in full screen mode.

- You are now done with the compatibility and the launching issue with the game, well done! :)
2 - Configuring the game's resolution and speed
- Launch a random game and press "F12", then set the resolution that suit your screen size for me it's"2560x1440"
BECARFUL! Never go higher than this resolution or the game will crash instantly.

- Now for the game speed, it's a matter of preferences but i found that configuring the game with the following values (See the screenshot), it make the game run at a "normal" speed to play, also set the game mode to "Slow Mode" or the characters will run all over the place.

You're all set to play this game now.

3 - Playing Online/LAN
Playing Online with the world

I would recommand using Game ranger
Consider desactivate Windows defender, or other antivirus programs in order to make it work.
Just Install the software, scan your installed games and you can create your game's room or join people's game, just click "Join" and it should work.

Download Game Ranger[www.gameranger.com]

Tunggle is worth trying as well if Game ranger isn't working.
Almost he same as Game Ranger, create or join people's room.

Download Tunngle[tunngle.en.uptodown.com]

And to play LAN with your friends or in the same place, of course Hamachi is the software you are looking for.

Just make an account, and install, look for the IP address Hamachi gives you and search it in the game with "TCP/IP", and you are ready to play.

Download Hamachi[vpn.net]

Now you should be able to play online. (Watch for your firewall and proxy!)
4 - Changing the language
- To change the language of the game you need to find the original "ALL.GSC" and replace it in your main Cossacks folder: "\Steam\steamapps\common\Cossacks European Wars"
(Note: It works with all versions of Cossacks)

-Languages patchs (I will update this post for further languages)

For anyone with this issue, found this bit of advice on a steam community page which worked perfectly:

Go to the local files, right click on Dcmr and change the compatibility to windows XP Service Pack 3. Repeat this for Dmln and HView.

Now all fixed

Absolutely no joy, tried several different dll files (as not sure the original in the article is still the right path) and with actual dplayx.dll files in the main directory the game won't even open beyond the initial 'opening game' mini window.

So frustrating

just installed the game on windows 10 and every time I switch the game mode from fast to slow mode the game just shuts down down

Tried your suggestion following everything you said but the program still will not load into windows 10. Funny thing is that I had it running with GOG just fine, but wanted to switch over to using it in Steam since it is my go to game system. I tried reinstalling to GOG, but it won't run there anymore either. Any suggestions? :navy_hoi:

@Drunken Sailor, Everything is explained there, please read the whole thing, it says " Download this file, Then place this file "dplayx.dll" in your Cossacks main directory" I can't make things much clearer. :cozybethesda:

Hello! Is the file named "dplayx.dll" is file that i should download, or it should be with game client? Anyway i dont have it

@CTOЯТИ Hello, no problems ;) ,and don't worry the game is now old i think nobody really care if you share language files if people already bought the game. We the community are keeping this game alive so i think it's okay. :)
CTOЯТИ Nov 16, 2022 @ 1:56pm
Thanks!
regarding your question: if you mean the localization file, then I think so, since it is still official, but for unknown reasons is not included in the Steam version of the game
