10-4 ice block jump guide
Aban Hawkins & the 1001 SPIKES is a difficult but fair and well-balanced game in general. However, a specific part seems out of place and is incredibly hard to do reliably, standing on pixel-perfect jumping: it's the infamous 10-4 ice block jump.

I won't detail how to get to the ice block part, it's not too hard and there are plenty of walkthrough videos out there for this. I'll help you get through this specific jump:

What you have to do here, is to jump over the spikes and get on the ice block on the right. Jump too close to the spikes, and they'll kill you on your right, jump too far from the spikes, and they'll kill you when you fall down on them.

You can do this jump extremely reliably by positioning yourself exactly like this (this is a zoomed-in version of the picture above):

I outlined in red Aban's foot on the left to help you see exactly where he has to stand: notice his foot covers exactly the gap between the blocks.

After you're in that exact spot, press the short jump button while holding "right" at the same time, mentally giving priority to the short jump button. I know this seems contradictory, but keeping this in mind helps me get through this jump every single time.

DO NOT use this method right away at the ice block spot. First practise at the beginning of the level:

This early area has the same results as the ice block jump: if you do the jump here correctly, you should land safely on the block on the right. If you made it, then return to the map to avoid losing a life, and practise until you make it reliably. Then you'll be ready to do it in the actual ice block spot.

If you can't do it reliably despite my instructions, that could be caused by different controllers or reflexes: if you're always killed while going right, you're too close and should try jumping one pixel further to the left, and if you're always killed while you fall down, you're too far and should try jumping one pixel further to the right.

Eventually, using the practise spot, you should get it right every single time. For the rest of the level after the ice block jump, I advise you to follow this walkthrough (not made by me), which is much simpler than most other walkthroughs, and which helped me beat the level at my second attempt after the ice block:

Lol, this is true. I got a few sections in, but eventually it just wore me out and I raised that white flag.

Most levels aren't that hard. But yes, it does take a special mindset to enjoy it.

You know, I was just thinking about reinstalling this game then I watched the video at the end and was reminded of why I uninstalled it in the first place. It was fun up to a point, but I can only take so much punishment lol.
