A canon guide on watching Dragon Ball.

Basically, the idea behind this is to make a guide of the actual canon of dragon ball with correct facts unlike some others I saw which I'm taking inspiration from. Please make sure to like and favorite so others can see it.

Original Dragon Ball

Original Dragon Ball (in my opinion) is best to be read. The anime looks very lackluster and doesnt look as good as the manga, but if you really want to, you can watch the original anime. Not much filler in the original anime to hurt it.

Dragon Ball Z

The movies and the original anime aren't canon.

If your going to see Dragon Ball Z, watch either Kai or read the manga. The original Dragon Ball Z anime is full of filler and adds nothing to the story besides stretching it out. There are nice filler scenes, but only watch them if you really want more. The movies are also nice to watch but only remember that they never happen in the actual canon.

Dragon Ball Super

Dragon Ball Super has 2 different canons.

If your going for the anime canon, watch movies 14 and 15 otherwise known as Battle of Gods and Resurrection of F. These two are canon unlike the other 13 and after you watch them, continue DBS after episode 27. All before that is the anime redoing the arcs. And if your going manga, don't worry about it. Just read on reputable sites like Viz (payed subscription) or buy your own volumes. I don't endorse illegal manga reading sites. After you finish the Tournament of Power in the anime or manga, watch Dragon Ball Super: Broly. It happens a bit after the tournament and is canon.

Dragon Ball GT and Non-Canon Content

None of this is canon.

If you want more Dragon Ball after watching Super, Z, and Dragon Ball, then GT and the movies are for you. Dragon Ball GT happens 10 years after the end of Z and involves Goku becoming a kid again trying to reclaim the dragon balls. The special "Bardock: The Father of Goku" is noncanon due to the retcons in Dragon Ball Super: Broly, but "History of Trunks" is canon. Watch History of Trunks if you want to know Trunks' backstory. Everything else is really noncanon unless I forgot something. Don't forget, everything Dragon Ball (including the games) are mostly fun or exiting and could use a chance.

people consider super canon cus toriyama is involved in its story and that it's following toriyama's script to some extent but with GT toriyama had absolutely no involvement in the story whatsoever so it's considered non-canon. that's how everyone sees it

I never got the gt is non cannon thing, super is equal amounts non cannon as gt, they are both separate continuations of the story made separately from the original manga ( I never get the "well toryama wrote it so its better thing ether" like i get it if you think gt is bad, but honestly despite that gt still feels more like db and z then super does, at least gt goku is actually goku and not some weird misinterpreted idiot. ( i think the problem in that regard is toryama apparently removed dragon ball from his mind immediately after making it( confirmed in interviews) and didn't actually remember how to write his own characters)

i honestly think bardock father of goku is still more "cannon" then the broly movie, as bardock appears in the original manga in his original armour and not the super armour.

Something that is a great side to do is to go play Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot if you don't feel like reading or watching the entire anime. It covers the story in a very nice RPG way.
