Basic Information for New Players

A basic guide to beginning ragnarok and a list of useful sites for later use.

Where to go when you Start on Ragnarok

Welcome to the world of Ragnarok Online. As you have seen, we have many guides already, but this one is created to help you become accustom to the few areas you are likely to visit first.

Meet your first city, the Satellite City of Izlude.

You will start at the docks. The first places you will want to visit are the Criatura Academy and the people standing to the south, across the bridge. There you will get a few starter items, including equipment designed for novices, and basic information about the game. Make sure to read what is said, or you might end up a little confused. In Criatura Academy you will also find a few repeatable quests that you can do to help you earn experience.

Your next step will be to talk to the Eden Teleport Officer in the middle of Izlude. When you enter Eden, locate the purple haired NPC, Lime Evenor, and register for Eden. This will come in handy later when you decide to start doing Eden Quests for experience or equipment. Before you leave to South Prontera Field, I do suggest finding the Navigation Guide and getting some basic information about our new Navigation System. It will be very useful when you are trying to find things later.

Getting to First Class and Exploring the Cities

South Prontera Field is the place to level as a novice. You will want to stay here until Job Level 10. Once you reach job level 10 you will be able to change into your first class (excluding Super Novice, which needs Base Level 45). To change to your first class, go visit the Second Floor of the Criatura Academy. They have rooms specialized for first class job changes. Some may have quests, some may not. Extended classes like Ninja and Gunslinger will still require you to do a quest. You may still go to the old locations to job change if you wish.

What about the rest of Izlude? Izlude will not only be visited as a new player. The airship and dock lets you reach other maps for cheap. The Kafra will also warp you to some cities (the list expands if you have VIP). The general shop has a Tool Seller and Weapon/Armor shops. It is suggested the only thing you consider buying a low level weapon to help you kill. The Monster Arena gives you a little side activity you can do at later levels. It isn't used by most players, but that doesn't mean that you wont find it fun, so give it a try!

North of South Prontera Field, you may notice a wall. That is indeed another city and the central hub of Ragnarok. If you are looking for shops or for a guild, this will be the best place to check. Welcome to Prontera City, the capital of Rune-Midgard.


Prontera is a large city with a lot to offer. There are save points at every exit with access to Eden as well. You can also enter battlegrounds at a later level to try it out if you find people there. To the left of where you will probably enter, you will find out awesome Arch Bishop, Fiolina. She is one of the only bots on the server who has permission from the GM to operate. If you ever need buffs or a heal feel free to ask her. Just make sure to say please! (Please remember, botting is illegal in Ragnarok. There are only a handful of people who have permission to run bots to help the playerbase. You will never see them outside town.)

Just north of Fiolina you will find Keiki. Keiki will be your friend at later levels because she warps you to Juno, the city you will visit when you transcend. Prontera also offers 2 inns (one which allows you to enter PvP), A tool shop, weapon shop, and a shop to upgrade or fix your equipment. This is also the city you will visit to start your job change if you wish to go Knight, Crusader, or Priest. To the North is Prontera Castle. This connects Prontera to it's War of Emperium Map. The number of quests here is pretty large. Most of them have level requirements, so you will not be starting them until later. Feel free to look around, you will find players almost everywhere.

What to do now that you have Job Changed

Now back to leveling, you have now reached your first class. What do you do now? You focus on getting level 12. Why level 12? Instructor Boya, in Eden, happens to give you a quest to get free armor at level 12. Now that you can no longer use your novice equipment, you will need new ones. It is suggested buying a cheap weapon until level 26. You will not get a weapon from Boya until then. You will be able to pick up new ones at 26 and then 41 from Boya as well. After 60 you can get ones for second class from Instructor Ur.

Ragnarok is a huge game. We have well over 100 maps and several leveling spots to choose from. How do you know what is best for you? Luckily they have a easy window to help you with this. If you press alt + ~ you will be brought to the following map. Press the Poring at the bottom Right to see the name of monsters under a number for each map.

Now, you are probably wondering what these numbers mean. Those numbers are the level of the monster that is most common on the map. The monsters you will want to fight are up to 15 levels higher and as low as 5 levels below you. You will get the most experience from monsters 10 levels above you. You will be leveling until your 40s or 50s before you are able to change to your second class.

Useful Sites to Use

We have a large number of websites to use. Our main one is http://www.irowiki.org
This is our wiki and will provide the most accurate information for our server. iROWiki also has a database. http://db.irowiki.org will help you tremendously when looking for places to level or items you want/need. You will also find a skill and stat calculator in iROWiki, which is very useful for planning your builds.

We have 2 market sites. We have http://www.ragial.com and we have http://www.ragnastats.com
Most people tend to use ragial, but it is up to you to decide which you like the most. These will display what most players are buying or selling with shops in the market district. Always check your items on here. They may be worth more than you realize.

There are two more sites to make note of. One is http://www.ropd.net which is our player database. The other is http://www.choobs.org which is used to track castles in WoE. Choobs also has some other useful links and information.

Finally, make sure to check http://forums.warpportal.com for more guides, art, and maintenance/patch notes. This is also a great place to get answers to questions.

If you need any other information, ask the players you find. Most of the community is nice and are usually willing to help other players learn the game. I hope you enjoy your time on Ragnarok Online. The game has much to offer.

TLDR:

1) Go to Criatura Academy and register in Eden

2) Get to job level 10

3) Go to Criatura Academy to job change

4) Get to base level 12

5) Talk to Boya, in eden, to get your free eden equipment

6) Repeat at level 26 and 41, then Ur at level 60

7) Use your world map to find monsters your level

8) You want to kill monsters up to 15 levels higher or 5 levels below your base level

9) Use important sites like ragial.com, forums.warpportal.com, irowiki.org, and db.irowiki.org to find the information you need

im base lv10 and job lv10 but when i talk to the class guide they just kep telling me to come back and talk to them when I reach job lv9. I dont understand what im doing wrong here.

@leekahyung you need to go to Criatura Academy in Izlude and go to the second floor, there, go up until before the last room of the left, and you need to be at Job Lv 10 Novice.
