Sovetsky Soyuz Class Battleship

The Sovetsky Soyuz Battleship was the Soviet Union's greatest attempt of building a serious contender to other major powers' most powerful surface vessels. The project was a massive undertaking for the Soviet economy and Soviet shipbuilding, which lacked experience in constructing high-quality armor. Although several hulls were ordered in the Interwar Period, and some actually made it into production, none were finished as the war made it necessary for the USSR to focus its resources elsewwhere. Nonetheless, if the ships were to have been finished, they would have rivaled even the Japanese Yamato-Class Battleships, and significantly strengthened the Soviet Navy.
