I created this guide to hopefully rid everyone of having to FORCE motion smoothing synthetic frames when running the forest VR and instead use real frames @ 80Hz to stop sickness. Word of warning! This game is extremely GPU dependant and would be best currently ran on a 2080Ti if you want to push anything further than this guide.

Clone all these graphical settings for use on a 1080TI graphics card, if your using any lower spec graphic card's then you will have to adjust your VR resolution below 100% resolution in steam VR to accommodate your performance

Brightness and contrast are rough edits and can be changed to your liking, Valve index is much better preferred with lighter/brighter caves and nights due to the game originally optimized for OLED

Colour grading set to EPIC is optional, but I find it looks the best

FXAA is the cheapest option to help clear up jaggies/aliasing
SteamVR The Forest Optimization
Next what you will want to do is disable motion smoothing, current steamVR motion smoothing is really quite bad compared to oculus motion smoothing, we will revert to the alternative reprojection method instead. You WILL want to use 80Hz refresh rate so that we can get 80 true frames instead of not being able to reach 90hz or higher and reprojecting.

Also make sure that you either setup custom application resolution on and the forest VR application resolution to 100% or (more advanced way) enable automatic custom resolution (like me) and change the forest vr resolution accordingly as seen below. AUTOMATIC RESOLUTION @150% DECIDED BY GPU/STEAMVR then ADAPT APPLICATION RESOLUTION so that the final resolution is 100%

((MAKE SURE TO INVEST IN FPSVR))

My VR resolution reported by FPSVR is 99% which is close enough to my desired 100% resolution @80hz

Last but not least check your FPSVR overlay to make sure your frametimings are not passing 12MS in latency (resulting in reprojection) or you will have to drop VR resolution down in steamVR settings

Good luck optimising your game!

Or you can just use render resolution custom and set everything to 100% default

So option render resolution AUTO,
then per application video settings and reduce the resolution of the forest VR until its around 100%

I said I use auto resolution, in which sets my res to 150% default, you then want to go into application resolution of theforest and reduce it back to 100%

i got a question, i got a new 1080ti, and this game on vr uses like 60% of the gpu, but i get like 56-70 fps, i follow your guide, and if i increase the resolution to 150% i got a gpu usage of 80% but i get like 39-45 fps, so its pointless.

any way to get more gpu usage? my cpu usage is low to, like 40%, so its not bottleneck.
