Intro
There are four main class choices. Playing difficulty varies for every class during natural progression through the game (start-midgame-endgame).

The following data is mostly based on my personal experience, YMMV.

All mixed class setups can carry you through the game no problem (e.g. melee+ranged or mage+summoner). Pure Mages suck at the beginning, do ok midgame and wreak havoc in endgame. Pure Melee chars are good at the beginning, struggle midgame and trash everything in endgame. Pure Ranged chars are the most versatile and do great at any stage of the game. And pure Summoners suck most of the time untill reaching the endgame status.

But I really like the concept of the pure summoner so I decided to challenge myself and beat the game with this class.
Rules
1. No suport weapons, summon damage only.

2. No glitches for killing enemies. No invincibility machines, no hoiks and absolutely no slimy saddle glitch trash.

Don't get me wrong - invincibility machines and other glitched mechanics have their place in game (AFK farms and regular farm setups etc.). But you can complete the game with relative ease without relying on glitches so why would you use them?

3. No outsourcing from other worlds (items, biomes etc.)

I decided to set some rules to make this challenge more interesting. But It wasn't very easy to follow these all the time.
I didn't use any weapons, this was easy, but I surely killed some critters and mobs with my tools by accident.
I used simple lava traps for farming and I had to kill cultists with lihzahrd traps.
I used water duplication glitch for convenience creating fishing areas and miltiple quest fish glitch to get fishing accessories (this was completely unnecessary, yes).
The World
Character: softcore.
World: medium.
Type: expert.
Biome: corruption.

I was concerned about killing Wall of Flesh in small world so I decided to create medium one. Now i think that it is doable even in small worlds.

Corruption biome can provide you with the Wrath potion (10% damage) and the Worm Scarf (17% defence). Crimson is not an option. No ichor in this challenge. Rage potion (10% crit chance) is useless for summons and the Brain of Confusion is arguably worse than the Worm Scarf.
The Journey - Part 1
This was the most exciting part of the game for me. You can't kill enemies, no gear, no resources. Farming for the Slime Staff was never an option, Hronet Staff is out of reach either. This makes the Imp Staff your best bet.

1. Start by building a base for NPCs and creating a workshop area.

2. Go smash some pots and collect enough money to get the Merchant NPC. Buy a Bug Net and a Piggy Bank. Keep your money safe.

3. Start making your way down. Focus on collecting as many Crystal Hearts as possible. Make a Hook from gems (keep any extra gems so you can make Stained Glass later and get some gold when needed.). Don't overlook iron and gold ores or their counterparts. Upgrade your pickaxe and armor if possible. Try to find some explosives and get the Demolitionost NPC. Collect some Glowing Mushrooms if possible. Keep an eye open for functional Statues[terraria.gamepedia.com].

3.1. Always try to check the Travelling merchant. Look for bulding and info accessories. Your main goal is to get the Lifeform Analyzer.

4. At the same time try to catch enough bait for fishing (about 40 should be ok). Make an Iron Fishing Rod.

5. Once you feel comfortable go and try catching a Reaver Shark. This can take some time. Try making Enchanted Nightcrawlers and/or some Fishing Potions if needed. I always get my Reaver Sharks with just Iron Fishing Rod and Worms.

6. Once you've got the Reaver Shark you can finish the way to the Underworld. Make an Obsidian Skull. Smash some pots in the Underworld and try to find an Obsidian Potion (optional). Clear your mining area with the dynamite and mine enough Hellstone (186 Hellstone total). The Imp Staff requires 17 Hellstone Bars = 51 Hellstone + 17 Obsidian and Molten Armour set requires 45 Hellstone Bars = 135 Hellstone + 45 Obsidian. Find a Hellforge.

You are now more than ready to take out The Eye of Cthulhu.
Eye of Cthulhu
Difficulty: Easy.
Drops: Shield of Cthulhu, Binocularus.

The easiest one. You need to defeat him in order to spawn a Dryad NPC.

Gear:

Molten Armour[terraria.gamepedia.com]

UPD: the full set gives mele set bonus. Use Gold/Platinum armor or don't wear the full set if you believe that having mele bonuses is inappropriate in this run.

Imp Staff[terraria.gamepedia.com]

Mana Potions[terraria.gamepedia.com]

Healing Potions[terraria.gamepedia.com]

Campfire[terraria.gamepedia.com]

Well Fed[terraria.gamepedia.com] - make some Cooked Fish[terraria.gamepedia.com].

Optional:

Shark Tooth Necklace[terraria.gamepedia.com] - Try to get this one. - 5 enemy defense will make a difference at the start and in midgame.

Band of Regeneration[terraria.gamepedia.com]

Any movement accessories[terraria.gamepedia.com]

Heart Lantern[terraria.gamepedia.com] - I always carry a couple of this in my Piggy Bank if i have max HP already.

Star in a Bottle[terraria.gamepedia.com]

Ironskin Potion[terraria.gamepedia.com]

Regeneration Potion[terraria.gamepedia.com]

Summoning Potion[terraria.gamepedia.com]

Swiftness Potion[terraria.gamepedia.com]

Arena:

Basic setup: is a long row of platforms. It should be high enough from the ground so your summons can attack the Eye all the time. Fell free to lengthen the arena for your convenience. Also bring some torches.

Fight strategy: With the Molten Armour set's defence you can literally facetank the Eye of Cthulhu. Make sure you have some Mana Potions so you can refill your mana during the fight. Just spam your Imp (instantly resummon it) near the boss to overcome the low base attack speed. The bossfight will definitely take some time but you should do it no problems.
The Journey - Part 2
At this point you should finish setting up your base and get some gear.

1. Buy some Planter Boxes from the Dryad NPC and create a gardening area. Make enough rows for six main Herb species (you don't really need Fireblossom at this stage of the game). Get some seeds and plant them. Set a bottle crafting station[terraria.gamepedia.com] if you didn't. You can now make potions. Plant some Pumkin and make some Pumpkin Pies. Try to always keep the Well Fed buff on.

2. Build a trap for invasions. Go and farm Tattered Clothes (10) from Goblin Scout[terraria.gamepedia.com] if you didn't get the Goblin Tinkerer NPC yet. Complete the Goblin Army invasion and find the Goblin Tinkerer NPC underground or lower. Buy a Tinkerer's Workshop so you can combine accessories.

2.1. Try to reforge your Imp Staff to Ruthless or any other high damage prefix. Reforge your accessories if you have some spare gold. Warding or Menacing prefix on accessories will be ok.

3. Find a pair of Hermes Boots or any counterpart and make a Spectre Boots. You will need this item to defeat a Skeletron. Or check the alternative method at the end of the "Skeletron" section.

4. Feel free to explore the Jungle. Flower Boots, Anklet of the Wind, Staff of Regrowth and Bee Hives are what you are looking for. Try to locate a Jungle Temple.

5. Complete some Angler quests if you want. Start fishing for Crates, Armored Cavefish, Ebonkoi and Variegated Lardfish. You can use Crates to get hardmode ores later.

Skeletron
Difficulty: Medium.
Drops: nothing useful for this playthrough.

You need to kill this boss to access the Dungeon and get the Mechanic NPC.

Gear:

Same as before plus the following.

Spectre Boots[terraria.gamepedia.com] or derivatives. You gotta go fast and probably fly in this bossfight.

Shield of Cthulhu[terraria.gamepedia.com]. Use the shield to change direction rapidly or reach max running speed faster.

UPD: Use a hook if you consider the Shield of Cthulhu to be a mele accessory.

Endurance Potion[terraria.gamepedia.com].

Wrath Potion[terraria.gamepedia.com]

Arena:

Buld this somewhere above the Dungeon.

Basic setup: is two rows of platforms and a row of solid blocks at the top. You need to make it wide enough (about 300 blocks) so you can maneuver easier and have a bigger margin for mistake. Feel free to add more rows of platforms. No point in having more than three rows though.

Fight strategy: Start the bossfight and use your hook to get over the Dungeon and enter the arena. Try to get to the edge of the arena before the Skeletron start spinning. Wait for him to use the spinning attack and start running in the opposite direction. Use the Shield of Cthulhu to reach the max speed of the Hermes Boots faster if needed (be very careful with its knockback though). He is swinging above you between his spinning sttacks. Cool down of the spinning attack is 3 full swing cycles (6 swings). Try to keep him near your convenient side (left if you are going to run to the right and vice versa). Drop down and start running right at the end of the third swing cycle. Focus on his hands first. After losing one hand Skeletron will attack you with homing skulls. Go to the top platform at the end of the run and keep him above the row of solid blocks so he can't reach you with his ranged skull attack. Keep spamming Imps near him. The boss fight can take 5-7 minutes.

Use your hook if he stunlocks you. Drop down and use the Shield of Cthulhu to change direction if he catches you by surprise. The mobility is the key. Take some practice before the bossfight.

Alternative arena and strategy[terraria.gamepedia.com]. No Spectre Boots needed.
The Journey - Part 3
1. Enter the Dungeon. Find the Mechanic NPC. Find a Cobalt Shield and an Alchemy Table. Try to locate the Frozen Chest and highlight it with some torches so you can find it on your map. Take some Water Ccandles.

2. Make the Grand Design and get some wire. Make a couple of 1 Second Timers. You can set up a simple statue farm to get some gold from selling items or even heal during fights. Make a rectangular box at least 8 blocks wide and place statues, pour a lava bucket inside. Connect statues with a timer. Turn it on and wait. Hearts will only drop if you are injured.

Best Statues for making money - Granite Elemental and Jellyfish. Any Statue that spawns low HP mobs will do great for farming hearts when injured (Slime, Jellyfish, Bat, Piranha, Crab). You can actually use any functional monster statues you have for healing purposes.

3. You can start building a bridge in the Underworld. I use Obsidian Platforms for this purpose because they won't burn in lava. Low HP Wall of Flesh will start to move very fast (up to 50 mph). That is why I decided to make an additional row of Minecart Tracks just above the row of platforms so I can mount a Minecart when needed. It is also easier to maintain your movement speed using a Minecart.

4. I also decided to make a minecart track in the sky so I can reach desired area of the world faster. It takes quite a lot of time and resources to build a track but I think it is worth it. Quite easy with the Brick Layer.
Queen Bee
Difficulty: Easy.
Drops: Bee Wax.

You need to defeat the Queen Bee to get some Bee Wax and make yourself a set of Bee Armour.

Gear:

Same as before plus the following:

Bewitching table[terraria.gamepedia.com].

Optional:

Obsidian Shield[terraria.gamepedia.com] - grants immunity from knockback and the Burning debuff.

Bezoar[terraria.gamepedia.com]

Arena:
Basic setup: is a rectangular opening. I usually make an improvised arena for this bossfight. Just clear enough space for your convenience. You can make the opening somwhere near the Bee Hive or use the existing one and lure the Qeen Bee to the arena. Block all entrances so trashmobs won't disturb you during the fight.

Fight strategy: almost as easy as the Eye of Cthulhu. Dodge her ramming attacks by jumping/flying or using hook. Move from side to side to dodge her stingers. Spam summons to deal damage. Bezoar will make this fight super easy, but this is absolutely doable even without it.

You may need to kill this boss multiple times to get the desired ammount of Bee Wax.
Eater of Worlds

Difficulty: Eeasy.
Drops: Worm Scarf.

A Worm Scarf is the reason why you want to defeat this boss.

Gear:

Same as before plus the following:

Bee Armour[terraria.gamepedia.com]

Honey buff [terraria.gamepedia.com] - 2x1 blocks = 2 buckets.

Arena:

Basic setup: is a rectangular box. I always build an improvised arena for this bossfight. Just make an opening near the last Shadow Orb wide and high enought so your summons can penetrate more segments. At the same time you don't want it to be too big because the boss will shoot Vile Spit projectiles more effectively. The arena on the capture is a little bit too high.

Fight strategy: Focus on maintaining your health. Try to avoid his head. Spam summons. Use the statue healing setup if you need.
The Journey - Part 4
1. Locate a Spider Nest. Setup a simple farm so you can get Spider Fangs fast later.

2. You can start building arenas for Hardmode bosses. This isn't necessary at this point though.

2.1. Another optional task is to catch some Crates (I ended up with a 150 Wooden, about 50 Iron, 10 Golden and a couple of Biome Specific Crates.). Crates in Hardmode can drop hardmode ores. This will not be faster than mining if you have a Metal Detector and Spelunker potions, but quite a bit easier.

3. Take some time and get the desired amount of potions (Ironskin, Regeneration, Swiftness, Wrath, Summoning). Mining and Spelunker potions are quite usefull as well. Two stacks will be plenty enough.

4. Reallocate the Witch Doctor NPC to a house in the jungle biome (you can make an artificial jungle biome by planting a couple of jungle grass seeds and covering 80 mud blocks with jungle grass.) Farm 1 Platinum coin so you can buy a pair of Leaf Wings in Hardmode at night.

5. Finish the Wall of Flesh arena. Farm for a couple of Guide Voodoo Dolls.
Wall of Flesh
Difficulty: Medium.
Drops: Pwnhammer, Summoner Emblem, Demon Heart.
Gear:

Same as before plus the following:

Worm Scarf[terraria.gamepedia.com].

The main threat is Eye Laser attacks and the Hungries. Consider reforging your items to Warding prefix in order to get more defense.

I didn't use Campfires and Heart Lanterns, but you can probably get enough of this items to cover the arena if you want.

Arena:

Basic setup: is a long row of platforms/minecart tracks. The capture is a simpified example with adequate background. Build it in the Underworld, of course. Make it long enough - about half of the medium world should do it. Feel free to extend it.

Fight strategy: Buff and summon Imps. Drop the Voodoo Doll into lava. Mount a minecart and start moving. Spam summons near the eyes (they have less defense). The key is to keep the distance. Keep the Wall of Flesh at the edge of the screen. Maintain your moving speed, speed up when needed (super easy in a minecart).
The Journey - Part 5 - Early Hardmode
1. Go to the Witch Doctor NPC and buy Leaf Wings at night.

2. Go to the Spider Nest and farm for Spider Fangs. You will need to get 76 Spider Fangs to craft a Spider Armour set, Queen Spider Staff and Spider Staff. Switch to Spider Armour set and use the Spider Staff as your main weapon. Reforge it to Ruthless or any high damage prefix.

3. Get enough Mythril/Orichalcum ore to make a correspondent Anvil.

4. Go in Underground Hallow biome and try to catch some Prismites. Craft some Lifeforce potions.

4.1. Try to get a Cross Necklace from regular Mimics.

4.2. You can also try farming Frozen Key from any mob in a Snow Biome at the beginning of the Hardmode. The chances are very low so don't waste too much time. I spent hours trying to get the key and just gave up in the end. Frost Hydra is a good sentry summon, but it is not worth the trouble IMHO.

5. Make an arena for the Destroyer. Craft summoning items for all mechanical bosses.
Destroyer

Difficulty: Medium.
Drops: Soul of Might, Hallowed Bars.

The easiest one in Hardmode. You need to defeat him in order to spawn a Steampunker NPC.

Gear:

Same as before plus the following:

Spider armor[terraria.gamepedia.com]

Leaf Wings[terraria.gamepedia.com] (Optional)

Spider Staff[terraria.gamepedia.com]

Queen Spider Staff[terraria.gamepedia.com]

Cross Necklace[terraria.gamepedia.com] (Optional)

Lifeforce Potion[terraria.gamepedia.com]

Arena:

Basic setup: is a rectangular box above the ground. I added two statue traps to make sure I can heal when needed (optional, Healing Potions will do). A row of platforms down below and background walls will help Spider minions to move faster. Covering more space near the row of platforms with walls will help a bit.

Fight strategy: the Destroyer has a somwhat bugged AI making the bossfight rather easy. The boss will not be able to reach you if you can get high enough above the ground. Buff and summon spiders, drop the Queen Spider sentry on the row of platforms below. Activate statue trap setup. Summon the Destroyer. Beware of Probes and laser attacks (won't penetrate solid blocks). The main difficulty is defeating the boss during the night. I spent about 8 minutes fighting him. Make sure you have damage prefixes on your Staves. Reforge any swap items to Menacing, summon your minions and swap back to def before the fight. Ensure that minions can effectively attack the boss.
The Journey - Part 6
1. Go and buy a dozen of Teleporters from the Steampunker NPC. Build the arena for Twins and Skeletron Prime.

2. Refill your potions stock if needed.
Twins
Difficulty: Medium.
Drops: Soul of Sight, Hallowed Bars.

Nothing particularly difficult in this bossfight. Just make sure you have a backup healing trap and enough potions.

Gear:

Same as before.

Arena:
Wiring

Basic setup: is a square area with background walls. I placed 4 teleporter setups and connected them to create an 8-shaped teleportation pattern. The Dryad NPC can give you some defense with her buff (got killed in no time, place her somwhere near the ground). Teleportation pattern is not perfect (bosses can still hit you) but good enough. Yellow wire was connected to Statue Trap and Heart Statues. You can just place separate statue traps above teleporter setups to constantly refill your health.

Fight strategy: Buff, summon minions, start statue trap setup, summon the boss. Move to the right to start teleporting. Order your minions to attack Spazmatism and take him out first. Be extremely careful when he enters his second stage and starts bursting cursed flames. Be free to alternate your moving pattern - stop from time to time and let the boss change its position if needed. You can always jump out and enter different teleporter setup.
Skeletron Prime
Difficulty: Medium.
Drops: Souls of Fright, Hallowed Bars.

Gear:

Same as before.

Optic Staff[terraria.gamepedia.com] - Optional.

Arena:

Same as before.

Fight strategy: same as before. Buff and summon minions. Start teleporting. Order minions to attack Skeletron's head. Heal if needed. Alternate your moving pattern a little bit. The main threats are his limbs, try to avoid them.
The Journey - Part 7
1. It's a good time to upgrade your gear setup. Farm Wall of Flesh for the Summoner Emblem. Also get any other Emblem from the boss and make an Avenger Emblem. Reforge both to Menacing prefix. Use them as a swap gear - equip damage accessories, apply damage buffs, summon minions, swap back to defense and movement accessories.

2. Find a Plantera Bulb. Make an arena.
Plantera
Difficulty: Medium.
Drops: Temple Key, Pygmy Staff.

Gear:

Same as before plus the following:

Using Bezoar is a good idea as well.

Avenger Emblem[terraria.gamepedia.com]

Summoner Emblem[terraria.gamepedia.com]

Arena:
Wiring

Basic setup: same as before. I added a block of honey placed inside bubble blocks for regeneration purposes. Two statue traps for healing. Same teleportation pattern as before. Yellow wire was connected to Heart Statues. Create the lava pit at least 15 blocks below the bottom teleporter setups to protect yourself against Thorn Balls. Teleporters were actuated to the background (actuate and remove actuators) to pass through Thorn Balls.

Fight strategy: same as before. The key is to alternate your moving pattern. Plantera is slow. Don't let her to trap you near teleporters. Focus on your health. Bezoar and statue thaps will make this bossfight very easy.

You may need to defeat this boss a couple of times to get the Pygmy Staff. Find another Bulb and lead Plantera to the arena carefully so she won't despawn.
The Journey - Part 8
1. Buy a Pygmy Necklace, Hercules Beetle and a set of Tiki Armour from the Witch Doctor NPC.

2.Reforge the accessories to Menacing prefix. Reforge the Pygmy Staff to Ruthless or any other high damage prefix.
Golem
Difficulty: Easy.
Drops: Sun Stone, Eye of the Golem, Picksaw, Shiny Stone.

You need to defeat this boss to start Martian Madness invasion and get some items.

Gear:

Same as before plus the following:

Pygmy Staff[terraria.gamepedia.com]

Hercules Beetle[terraria.gamepedia.com]

Pygmy Necklace[terraria.gamepedia.com]

Tiki Armour[terraria.gamepedia.com]

Arena:

Nothing special here. Build a couple of statue traps if needed. Any simple dodge setup can be used (flat minecart track with Bumper ends, two teleporters across the room etc.).

Fight strategy: Buff and summon minions. Summon Golem. Destroy the fists first. Maintain your health. The key is mobility - try to avoid his fire projectiles and lasers. Using wings for this bossfight is a good idea.
Martian Madness
Difficulty: Easy.
Drops: Cosmic Car Key, Xeno Staff.

Gear:

Same as before plus:

Shiny Stone[terraria.gamepedia.com]

Arena:

Basic setup: is a castle trap. Add backgroound walls outside. You will need to use Spider Staff because Pygmys can't attack Saucers quick enough. Optic staff is also a good option if you have one (no additional backgound walls needed).

Fight strategy: go to the edge of the world. Get to the space level, place the Water Candle. Wait for the Martian Probe to spawn. Get in it's scan range and trigger the invasion. Teleport home. Get inside the trap. Progress through the event untill first Martian Saucer spawns. Focus on the Saucer - order your minions to attack it. Try to get a Xeno Staff.
The Journey - Part 9 - Pre Moonlord
1. Probably your last chance to get any desired gear before reaching endgame status. What you are looking for: Ankh Shield, Celestial Stone, Celestial Shell, Staff of the Frost Hydra.

2. Pumprin Moon Event can provide you with a decent boost, but it is unnecessary IMHO. You can easily defeat Lunatic Cultist and Moonlord at this stage of the game.

3. Buld the Moonlord arena.
Pumpkin Moon (Optional)
Difficulty: Hard.
Drops: Necromantic Scroll, Raven Staff.

You want to get two Necromantic Scrolls from this event. The event is quite difficult. It quickly turns into a massacre by the end.

Gear:

Same as before plus Xeno Staff.

Arena:

Basic setup: is an area 168 tiles wide restricted by lava so that monsters will only spawn in one small point right below the player.

Fight strategy: buff and summon minions. Proceed to wave 4 and start killing Mouring Woods.

Alternative arena[forums.terraria.org] (somewhat glitchy).
Lunatic Cultist
Difficulty: Easy.
Drops: Ancient Manipulator.

Gear:

Same as before plus the following:

Cosmic Car Key[terraria.gamepedia.com] - Optional, any Wings will be ok.

Xeno Staff[terraria.gamepedia.com]

Optional:

Celestial Stone[terraria.gamepedia.com]

Celestial Shell[terraria.gamepedia.com]

Necromantic Scroll[terraria.gamepedia.com]

Papyrus Scarab[terraria.gamepedia.com]

Arena: nothing is required. Solid blocks can block Cultist's attacks. Use any additional source of healing if needed. Again, simple dodging setup will do well against this boss.

Fight strategy: use any trap setup (lihzahrd traps will do) to kill Cultists. Buff and summon minions. Try to avoid Cultist's attacks.
Celestial Pillars
Difficulty: Hard.
Drops: Fragments.

Gear:

Same as before. Use Shiny Stone to heal quickly.

Stardust Pillar:

Head towards the Stardust Pillar first. Build a rectangular box (or just two vertical rows of blocks) at the edge of the Stardust biome big enough to dodge Milkyway Weaver attacks. The main threat is Flow Invaders - can be blocked by solid tiles. Retreat to the regular biome if needed. Kill enough enemies, destroy the Pillar, collect Fragments. Teleport home and craft Stardust Dragon Staff, summon Stardust Dragon.

Solar Pillar: the most difficult. Same deal as before. Make some solid blocks obstacles at the edge of the Solar biome. Don't get too high to avoid Crawltipede attacks (you can actually get in the air near solid blocks). Focus on taking out Corites. Kill enough enemies. Buff and move towards the pillar. Place any sentry underneath the pillar and try to survive. Sentries won't despawn even upon your death. Repeat if needed and collect the Fragments.

Nebula Pillar: second most difficult. Stay high enough to block ground enemies attacks, dodge Brain Suckers. Focus on taking out Nebula Floaters first. Kill enough monsters. Rush to the Pillar and destroy it. Collect the Fragments.

Vortex Pillar: the easiest one. Just build a box around your character and wait. Kill enough enemies. Resummon your Stardust Dragon properly if needed, prepare potions for the Moonlord bossfight. Destroy the pillar and collect the Fragments.

Teleport home and reach the Moonlord Arena.
Moonlord
Difficulty: Easy.
Drops: Luminite, Rainbow Crystal Staff, Lunar Portal Staff.

Gear:

Same as before plus:

Mechanical Cart[terraria.gamepedia.com]

Not sure if it is possible with regular Mine Cart.

Arena:
Wiring

Booster track setup:

Basic setup: is a copy of the Joe Price's hoik powered arena[i.imgur.com]. Same teleportation pattern, just replaced hoiks with minecart tracks. Make sure that bottom track setup is wider - you want the Moonlord to stay just above it.

I also created a Booster Track (can be bought from a Mechanic NPC) setup to accelerate faster and reach the max speed before entering the arena. Teleporter at the end teleports you inside the arena (bottom red wire).

Heart statues are connected to one second timer. Not necessary, Healing Potions will do.

Honey block were added for regeneration purposes followed by two Booster Tracks to speed back up.

Add background walls behind the tracks and lava pits below if needed.

Fight strategy: buff and mount the Booster setup. Order the Dragon to attack the boss. The setup is quite reliable - Moonlord managed to hit my char only a couple of times.

You will have to defeat the boss (and probably the whole event) multiple times to get enough Luminite Ore for Stardust Armour.
The End of the Journey
1. Get enough Luminite ore and craft Stardust Armour.

2. Farm for any desired items to complete your summoner if you want.

3. Defeat optional bosses and events that you skipped.
Final Gear Setup
Stardust Armour
Ruthless Stardust Dragon Staff
Ruthless Xeno Staff
Any Sentry
Menacing Papirus Scarab
Menacing Necromantic Scroll
Menacing Celestial Shell
Menacing Celestial Stone
Menacing/Warding Pygmy Necklace
Menacing Avenger Emblem
Menacing Hercules Beetle
Menacing Summoner Emblem
Warding Ankh Shield

Let's just say this class sucks until you defeat the Martian Madness Event. But when you got those juicy mods... the class is waaay more fun.
Andrew True  [author] Jan 30, 2020 @ 2:24pm
ThatSassyBoi, using tool properties of mele tools is like using movement props of defence acc that also happend to be a mele weapon. Use hook, perfect your timings or just use any other strategy suitable for you.
chib Jan 30, 2020 @ 2:21pm
like, the guide doesn't require you to, its kinda optional
Andrew True  [author] Jan 30, 2020 @ 2:21pm
ThatSassyBoi, well, technically you can complete the game without mele tools.
chib Jan 30, 2020 @ 2:20pm
most things in the guide could be deemed "not necessary" so you must be trolling.
Andrew True  [author] Jan 30, 2020 @ 1:54pm
ThatSassyBoi, I am not telling to use the shield as a weapon. Most basic tools deal mele damage as well, you just don't use them to kill enemies. Same with the Molten Armor - it gives you only defense since you are using only summon damage. You can replace any part of the set with any other high defence piece if you think that mele set bonus makes any difference.
chib Jan 30, 2020 @ 11:17am
reminds me of ningishu...
Andrew True  [author] Jan 29, 2020 @ 12:19am
ThatSassyBoi, it also allows to dash, making it movement accessory. Using it as a weapon is a pretty bad idea in this bossfight. You don't have to use it tho. Totaly doable without the Shield of Cthulhu, you can use any hook to accelerate faster.
