@JFinny if anything it might be because the idea of numeric stats and individual abilities is kind of mindblowing to anyone who hasn't dealt with them in the past

i say this as someone who played skyrim and fallout 3 (unga bunga mode: 6 or 8 stats or something plus perks that tell you *exactly* what is going to be affected) and had no issues, then played baldur's gate 3 years later with zero ttrpg experience, followed by morrowind and baldur's gate 2.

i felt like a total idiot for a good long time. had no idea that rpg's started out with the same concepts as dungeons & dragons

I really still disagree with people who can't balance their character enough to hit a target. If you want to be a melee character get agility, get skill in your favorite weapon and pay attention to your stamnia. It's not really that hard.
